Those two amps would probably sound killer together in a mix. Appreciate ya sharing brother.
Yes someone else said that too and I’m gonna do that soon🤘🏼
@@brokenlevelmusic hell yeah that's a really cool thing to be able to do and get unique tones. I'd love to be able to mix some good amps like that. All I got is a ole pod hd500 and although I can mix amp sims it's not as awesome as doing it with real amps. Lol I'll get me a good amp or two one of these days. Lol appreciate ya man.
They do, actually. I've been blending them together in my mix for a while.
@@jasoncrump1886 You can achieve the tone you're looking for if you seek out Audiority plugins. They have both the Solidus Randy 250 (based on two amp models, the Randall RG100ES and the RH150, both good amps) and they also have the Solidus VS8100 based on this Marshall amp. You can do kinda like what I do with Cakewalk. I load up multiple tracks, I have 7 tracks dedicated to guitar. On track 1 I have Overloud TH3 with 2 Randall T2's loaded. On track 2 I have the Audiority Randall RG100ES. On track 3 I have the Banger plugin from Vtar amps (based on the Randall Thrasher) on track 4 I have the Blades plugin from Vtar amps its based on the Randall Satan. On track 5 I have the Goblyn ampsim by Aurora DSP its free and based on the EVH 5150-3 amp. On track 6 I have Audiority's version of Klirrton Grindstein. On track 7 of the guitars I use Audiority's Valvestate 8100. I have to turn the ampsims down to between -12 to -18 db to let other instruments cut through the mix (drums, bass etc) because it gets LOUD as FUCK. But the tone is killer. Its about the heaviest tone I've ever heard in my life. Palm mutes chug so damn hard it makes my floor shake.
@@jasoncrump1886 And see with Cakewalk you can isolate the tracks or you can have them all play at the same time and create a sound similar to quad tracking, but maybe even thicker, the different amp sims going all at once on the same direct input, each being laid out as a separate track, and with each amp and each cab influencing the sound, it has a very large sound. A "wall of sound" if you will. Cakewalk is good, it is free. It has a little bit of a learning curve, but it can get you started with a free version of Overloud TH3 and the Randall T2 model, and from there you can add to your collection, the Vtar amps are free to download, and so is the Goblyn. The only thing you'd really have to pay for sound wise is the Audiority stuff, but its worth it for all the stuff you get. Blending all that together is fucking dope sounding man. I'm telling you. If you have decent 70 watt or better studio monitors and decent headphones, this combo will knock your damn socks off.
Randall sounds a lot fuller sounding. Like seeing the isolated tones first
Thanks man, agreed!
Yeah, the Randall has more punch, but the Valvestate has some staticky grit that the Randall doesn't push out, so the Valvestate at a lower volume than the Randall in a mix adds some nice overtones and some nice harmonics as long as you got good noise cancellation going on, they kinda can compliment each other in a mix if its mixed just right, kinda filling out each other's empty spaces.
the valvestate is just so good to me, it’s got such a tight sound which i love! tight chugging is the way to go for me. the randall has a thicker tone and sounds great but i have to go for the valvestate. great video, thanks for this!
Thanks for sharing🙏👊🤘
I always loved the valvestate thing , however the RGES smokes it. I think the valvestate is sharper and more nasal , where as the RGES is fuller. Would be fucking sick to have both going at the same time like 2 tracks. I think that would crush! You're killing shit! 👑
Thanks Josh! Duuuude I’ll do that for sure, and I’m running these back too, not pumped on the tones tbh🤘🏼
@@brokenlevelmusic brother no snobbery to be honest, I think that ampeg you have would beat both of these. But im happy your not happy with the tones because then there's more videos! You're killing shit dude! Solid state cult eternal
Chuck vs Dimebag
Haha totally
On their own, the Randall certainly has a nice heftiness to it that makes it feel really full and larger than life but in a full mix the Marshall cuts like fucking a knife and the "lack" of heft can be made up by the bass player whereas the Randall is a bit swampy with every instrument in tow.
Either would be great amp honestly, but I like sharpness in my tone, so I would go Marshall. The Marshall is also incredibly cheap and abundant in the wild thanks to the near zero notoriety.
You’re right on man! Thanks for the feedback🤘🤘🤘
thank you for the guitars only section!
👊🏼🤘🏼
Randall sounds warmer. Marshall sounds heavy yet stiffer and scooped. Great ss amps. My favorite tones though are a 5150 and slo 100
Right on man thanks for sharing🤘
I love 8100, but the Randall kills it in this video! Had an 8100, but sold it to a friend since it didn't suite my band's sound at loud volumes. The preamp is really good, but the power amp makes it sound pretty weird at loud volumes. It's pretty forgiving on g12t-75's though, but I mostly use vintage 30's... Someday I'll buy the preamp pedal clone of the 8100, the Master Effects Martyr!
Right on man ya I want to get my hands on that pedal too🤘🏼
I think on thr spiritual healing album chuck used both of these amps together
But only on that album
I got inside the both and cleaned and put Mesa tube 12ax7... And I put a high-output fan to cool. As usually your boss noise suppressor.. And my tube screamer. ,Blue mxr...... .
Yeah I've been mixing the Randall RG100 (Audiority version with the Dime 333 ES settings, sometimes i switch up the IRs between the Cowboys from Hell IR and some the Kohle Pantera IRs.), the Randall T2 (Cakewalk Overloud version), the Randall Thrasher and the Randall Satan (the Vtar Vadim plugins Banger and Blades, respectively, based on both of those amps) the Goblyn (based around the EVH 5150-3) the Audiority Klirrton Grindstein and finally the Marhsall Valvestate 8100 (Audiority version) all together in a mix, its brutal but I have to cut most of them down to about between -12 to -18 db because it gets so fuckin' loud. But it does sound kick ass. I could only imagine what this would sound like on a 400 watt pa system, it'd stomp ass.
Randall still is by far my favorite amp company, and you can tell by my leaning towards favoring the Randall sound, but I do like to mix in a few other amps here and there for flavor in my wall of sound so the extra spaces in the in-between get filled out really nicely. Adding in the EVH and the Valvestate along with a wall of Randalls has the meanest sound I've ever heard
Got one if each of these. Will never sell either. My 2 favorite metal amps of all time! Tubes be damned!!!
I've been waiting for this
I could do better, the Valvestate sounds brittle and scooped, RG very mid’y sounds ok but I’m gonna keep at these 2👊🏼🤘🏼
@@brokenlevelmusic maybe different OD/ boosts pushing them? Anyway I thought this was a cool comparison def would like to see more.
Randall fuller but i surprizingly like the valvestate
Thanks for sharing Travis! Ya they’re both cool sounding amps🤘
I dig the Marshall more I think here. They both sound good but the Marshall is so tight!
Thanks for sharing man👊🤘
And appreciate the sub too bro🙏
I liked the Randall tone more. I'm curious about how the Marshall would sound dialing in some 80's thrash tones.
Not really satisfied with either amps tones in this video, think I’m going to run this one back🤷♂️👊🏼
If you want to last 3 Death records, the 8100 was Chuck's amp. I run mine with the gain between 1 and 3 o'clock pending the OD/boost I have in front, bass on full mids 12:30 treb 11:30 contour (based on my cab) at 11:30 (changes with the room and it's super close to Symbolic.
I use the 8100 for thrash and I think if you dial it in right you can get a pretty good range of tones. I could get somewhat close to ride the lightning and also a AJFA tone just using the EQ.
Randall has more depth. Marshall is comparatively shrill, but also nice and super articulate. Together in a mix would be nice.
Agreed!
The randall killed that Marshall. Having said that, I had the 8100 and I really loved it
Ya the best tones out of both are yet to come🤘🏼
I learned on that Marshall; I always thought it sounded like dog shit without EQ and distortion pedals. I got it from my buddy for $50 for sentimental purposes. I didn’t realize how many classic metal albums it was on back then
The only these two amps are missing is each other🤘🏻
I use both of them at the same time with a Morley.
brutal playing son, TEXAS RULES !!!!!! 🤘😝🤘
IMO the 8100 shines with a lot of midrange (well, it still is a Marshall!) while the RG tone is best experienced with a generous scoop. I prefer (and own) the 8100 and I think the two can't be compared, furthermore if on the same settings. Just two different beasts, and two faces of the 90s metal tone. Thanks for keeping their legacy alive!
Thanks for sharing, I actually compare them again in this weeks video coming Sunday, haha, as you said totally different beasts but fun to run side by side nonetheless and the tones are much better in the new comparison, check back and let me know what you think👊🏼🤘🏼
@@brokenlevelmusic I will! Cheers
I would mix them. On every album dime actually mixed his Randall’s with a wizard metal amp. Full tubes . It’s why I bought a wizard . It’s mark n ingredient. So these two heads together probably give you a great blend .
No he didn't.
@@timbuk1126 fuck ya he did . It’s a fact . Terry Date talks about it guitar world and I’ve talked to the maker of the amp about which one he sold to Darrel . It’s been know for years . Look guitar world magazine the making of cowboys from hell . Facts
@@techdeathhippie6319 yeah ok
The Valvestate sounds really thin with too much high-midrange. Like a toy, compared with RG80/100es Randalls. Had both of them, and the valvestate did not blow away me at all and is now gone, but of course I will never give away the Randall RG80es.
Hi. Whats the year of your amps ? Thanks
Do you compared 8080 and 8100? I very like 8080 sound and I wonder will 8100 give me the same sound. Thid models arę pretty the same, but has two different resistor and transformer. I thought to convert the 8080 to a head, but I'm not sure if the 80watt will be enough for the scene.
Have not tried 8080
8100 has so much clarity man.
how about the B%@ LS 100 Solid stste or th B52 stealth or att tube amps
I prefer Randall as far as the voicing goes, but Marshall is noticeably tighter.
i had more than 30 tube amps ( some repeated of course )... totally different of course again... for some styles i think its better. But for my musics grunge/heavy hard rock ... dean d100 ( copy of randall rg100es ) was the best distortion i ever heard
They both sound great, but based on my experience I prefer the Marshall, which I run through a 1960A with V30's. Biggest difference is that I keep the mids at noon and contour right in between 10 and 11 o'clock. If you scoop them too much with the contour knob they can sound thin and harsh. With my Ibanez RG752AHM (DiMarzio Evolution 7 in bridge pos) into a TS808 and an MXR 10 band in the FX loop, it provides the best metal tone I've ever had. My setup sounds a bit like Lasse Lammert's clip, but with a bit more mids: ruclips.net/video/dBrF-o07Bgs/видео.html
By the way, awesome to hear the Dwarven Hammer with these amps, I''ll start building mine somehwere this week.
Thats cool Marcus, thanks for the feedback🤘🏼
The Valvestate is much tighter and I prefer it to the Randall but I really like both and for not DIMEBAG no one would have gave that Randall a second look.
I wanted to see this shootout, Randall amps back in the day did shootouts with all tube Marshall’s, Randall’s point was how close they sound to a tube Marshall. The Valvestate is a good amp but it’s not a Randall.
Right on Don!
Got any experience with the randall rx120?
No, you? I bet they rip tho too, you can get cool tones with any amp if you’re willing to put in the work to dial it🤘
Randall ALL the WAY!!!
Randall sounds darker then the Marshall, then again I'm biased I have an 8100!!! Although it sounds like yours suffers the same as mine with no low end at high volumes....
Your absolutely right about the darkness, I acknowledge that in round 2 I uploaded this morning, check tones are better and low end is decent I think.
@@brokenlevelmusic when rehearsing with my brother, bass is maxed and there is 0 low end. I'm about to throw an eq in the loop!!
@@bilhorinek7406 cool, what kind of pickups are you running?
Both need a 10 band eq in the loop to sound best. Also the later SS Randalls kill these for metal.
How would you set the eq settings?
but why is darrell written on randall amp
Custom logo, check out the Darrell plugins from Amplitube🤘
@@brokenlevelmusic thanks. I saw randall from the side, but i was confused when i saw darrell
To me Marshalls don't shine unless you put a lot of midrange in.
