To speak on the bonuses for the mid season tournament, Gabe has played in the playoffs pretty much every year of his career so he’s always gotten playoff bonuses. There are teams out there like the Pacers who haven’t been to the playoffs in a long time. There are also teams like the magic and the rockets who are all on rookie contracts. That bonus money might be enough to motivate some of those dudes to take the early part of the regular season more seriously than NBA players typically do. If bad teams start competing hard for that bonus money, good teams will either lose early on or be forced to be even more locked in. Gabe and JJ are dudes who were in it mostly for the love of the game. For a lot of these guys though, the money plays a huge huge part and they will put it on the line for the chance to play on national TV in Las Vegas. Especially for teams like OKC and Indiana who have talent but no spotlight. If they play in that mid season championship game against each other (which could totally happen) that could be enough to put their young talented guys into the national spotlight. So not only do they get the bonus, they also get national endorsement deals. Also, you don’t think LeBron doesn’t want to win the first tournament in the city that he wants to own an NBA team in? I know it’s a gimmick but it has me hyped up. Some of these guys are so competitive that it doesn’t even matter if there was more money. They just want the bragging rights. Just one thing on denver’s defense, they were actually quite good throughout the whole post season. Did they play the best offensive talent? No. I also acknowledge the small sample, but i think their defense was very underrated in the second half and PS.
It may be a struggle to get there , but once they get into the playoffs and can focus on matchups, their so dangerous. It proves that great coaching matters . It’s not all about the players . Spoelstra is a matchup wizard and it shows every year in the playoffs
He’s also gonna come back to the bench when dame gets there. At least with the lakers, he can outplay dlo for the starting spot. He could start and have more money in LA. As a heat fan, it’s a wise decision.
