- In this lesson, we look at Bob Weir's rhythm guitar parts on "Help On The Way". "Help On The Way" was first performed on June 17, 1975 during the band's hiatus (but this version was instrumental).
The song was never regular in the repertoire, and went through three eras: The first era was between 1975 and 1977. The second era was 1983-1985. It returned again in 1989 and was then performed every year through June 1995. In total, "Help" was performed just over 100 times. On all of these occasions Help On The Way was followed by the instrumental "Slipknot!" . "Franklin's Tower" usually (but not always) followed "Slipknot!".

Bob Weir.. most underrated rhythm guitar player of any American Rock band. The phrasing!!!! I just can't get enough, even after all these years. Craig, thanks for showing us all the nuances that we may not hear clearly in the recordings or SBD. You really are something special!! Be well!
Thx its so interesting to learn Bob s lyrical rhythm playing
I have to say, you’ve given me a respect for weir I never really had...I know ppl said he was good, but I figured it was just dead heads lovin all things dead, but after watching this and the “he’s gone” lesson, I have a new appreciation for his skills...another really well done lesson, thx
I really enjoy your videos. You have the leanest videos for the most complicated things and I REALLY appreciate that although your video notation and finger presentations are VERY specific and well orchestrated, you are still all about the song and very little about the video. THANK YOU. KEEP BEING YOU. there's too many "hey guys" guys and "Um" guys and "please subscribe" guys these days. You're a water hole oasis in a desert. cheers!
Super cool. Thanks Craig.. The Grateful Dead family is all around....
Thanks, Craig!! Epic lesson.
Dude! Can’t help but say I love ya for this one 😂 Thanks for all the Bobby lessons you put out
criminal you dont have more subs and likes - great job
Awesome! Thank you
Thanks Craig though I wouldn’t be able to play this in a million years.
after a year of playing you'll master it
@@hertegovinul7564 If that is true, how many years does it take to master Jerry's parts?
It may feel like that, but there's something in that video that you can play. Take something you like that seems doable (eg. maybe the octaves part) and learn it. If you learn one thing you didn't know before it'll be worth it. Then you can come back later and learn something else. Eventually, you'll be able to do a lot more than you think!
@@NukesOfHazzard if the tabs right, all you need is perseverance and eventually you'll do it
Jerry wouldnt want you to copy note for note....stick with it man...you get the feel.....he has a mountain of riffs in his trick bag....but there are a lot he uses constantly....go feel the flow and the feel. ...close yours and groove....playing lead guitar takes practice....playing Gerry guitar.takes.......a lot of deadication.....ahahaha....HEY ....one day jamming with some buddies and .friends of friends..t. having a little bash....and people were coming and going.....down the stairs and out the other.way....I see this kid come down the stairs....he looks over at the band...ahahahah...I catch him looking at me.and he gets all flustered......oh jesus....ahaha..dude come down and grab a beer......We stop for a beer break ourselves.....and he says to me. Dude....your like....Jerry Garcia mixed with Johnny Winter.......I mean ...that was the nicest compliment i had ever gotten.....after a lifetime of sisters and girlfriends screaming at me to stop playin...to hear that was nice...sorry for ramblin....ahahaha
Makes me respect how good of player Bobby is with all these complex choppy chords.
so cool
Bobby is the best example of just throwing someone in the pool who can’t swim. He figured it out his own way.
Great stuff. Peak Weir here.
Would love a video on Evangeline from the self-titled JGB record. Those solos are peppy and fun!
Nice lesson, has been helpful. Is there a file with just the tab?
Could you do a video on Bobby’s part for US Blues?
Help how do i stretch my fingers for thd chords
Are your tabs out there for viewing?
👍👍
Craig I was wondering do you know what Bobby does with the slide in Althea. What he does in that song is masterful but I have no idea. Anyway, great video. Still the best in the game
yes, Weir is learning how to play slide on stage, lol
Forget Barre Chords, Weir Chords are the toughest to master lol
