I had a green one back in the 70's It was a 73 and that's what you have there. The larger front bumper but not the picnic bench bumpers of the 74. Mine was a 302 with a manual 3speed on the floor. Same bucket seats too.
The old Maverick is a super cool car. I knew many guys and girls that had kick-ass 2-door and 4-door Mavericks back in the day. One guy put a 460, 4-barrel and a C6 out of a late 60s F250 in a 4-door Maverick. Bone stock that thing would do a one-wheel-peel for blocks. He eventually put DIY mini-tubs in it, some H50 tires and a 9" out of a 69-70 Mustang in it. That thing would haul ass. Always kept the original wheel covers on it, door trim, and a quiet exhaust. It was a true sleeper. Kudos to you for helping this young man get his car running and keeping the passion for old cars like this going. Look forward to seeing more on this old Ford. Be safe and stay well.
Boy oh boy, it sure is good to see these young men taking an interest in these old internal combustion engines that we grew up with! You can drive all these fancy electric "golf" carts now...but, you'll never get the seat of the pants feel of a good V-8 engine doing one wheel peels out of McDonald's on a Friday night! We truly have lived in the good ole days! Thanks for helping your friends son on his project, it does your heart good doing things like this, to bring along the next generation of car lovers. God Bless America!
The first time I saw someone use bumper jacks to make traction bars for a Grabber in 70 or 71. The guy said the wheel hop was terrible before. The extra length of the jacks made it hook great!!
I lmao when you said it smells like avon , my grandmother had 71 4dr Torino , the smell of Channel #5 would take your breath away on a hot summer day when opening the door after sitting in the sun all day, I finally started opening the door and letting it sit for a few minutes before getting in it
My first loan was for a 1959 Corvette! Bought my first tools from a guy I worked with that upgraded to Snap On- he sold a couple milk crates full of Craftsman to me for $40.00- still use them and the Corvette is long gone-
I love the cars of my youth! Vegas and Mavericks were the American Small cars as well as the Pinto (I had a 73 Pinto and a 78 Mustang 2 with the 302 4 speed). Certainly NOT fast cars compared with what I drive today but they were very cool and could be very fast if you had the cash to pour into them. When I turned 18 I bought 2 Mercury Capri's. Both were 1973 2.6L V6 BUT one had been gone over totally and had racing pistons high rise manifold, Edelbrock heads with four barrel carb and Hooker Headers! YES on the 2.6L V6! Ford had good aftermarket support in Europe and other places for those cars. Still do. Although I lived and still live in Chinada...Oops I mean Canada. (July 20 2024). That baby ROCKED! It sounded like an F1 machine! Blew out the rear end and the trans as well. Twice! LOL.
My first car was a 70 Maverick, 6 cylinder 3 on the tree. Lots of one wheel peels. Lots of fun. Cruising our little town. That was way back in the 70's Ron
Cool Maverick. My brother had a 70 or 71 Grabber, blue , 302 4sp in the floor factory, black stripes. He loved that car, bought it new . Good looking car. Glad to see young guys into old muscle.
Such a cool car Wesley. Reminds me of the 72 comet I had. It’s good to see this younger generation interested in the hot rodding. They are the future of keeping it alive. Have a great week and stay safe. 👍😎✌️
If he changed the trans filter there was a ball or pin that would fall out, that would cause that problem, ask me how I know. Great channel Wesley and jen.
In 1975 when I was in high school. Our driver's ed. car was the Mercury Comet 4 door version of this. SleeperDude would approve of this I do believe. In his latest video he picked up a Maverick Grabber that came with the 6 cyl.
One of my first purchases was a new set of front calipers and all the brake parts for the rear gm truck 12 bolt including drums truck was a 1974 Chevy c10 Cheyenne super 2wd regular cab long bed dark carmine red and frost gloss white center two tone paint scheme it was pulled apart and the factory 454 sold out of the truck and the manual shift column 3spd transmission was used in a late 60's Chevy Caprice because it was not all worn out so I dealt with putting a low mileage 250L6 gm motor and a welded brazed cabled combobbled linkage setup that never shifted right so I bought a new accelator pedal cable for a 79 Chevy c20 with a gm 250L6 and then I got a set of the th 400 automatic transmission linkage rod slider and the transmission ear and hook bar and then i ended up getting a completely rebuilt 75 Chevy c20 Silverado auto tilt steering column and had my steering wheel swapped out because it was a Cheyenne super it had a aluminum piece of trim with a tiger stripe orange looking paint scheme and the factory Chevy steering wheel center cap horn button i had my momma paint ford blue lol
I had a 72 and 73 Maverick. Both V8s. The worst thing about the cars was having power steering; not needed! It appears you don't have that issue. Mine would throw the power steering pump belt every time I revved it out. Both cars were modest builds with aluminum intake an Edelbrock carburetor. I couldn't see if you still had the stock throttle cable or not, but mine snapped it twice. I don't think the stock cable is long enough open up the carb completely. Anyhow... good luck with the car. I loved mine. My 73 was an LDO model, like this one
I also ended up using a junkyard $25 th350 long tail shaft at transmission and swapped in a new front pump and input shaft seal and it would shift for awhile but it would eventually get to it would start getting warm and stop shifting completely should have bought a new torque converter for the truck but I didn't
the modulator valve has a pin in the hole that may fall out n get lost make sure its in there too .. when you take the filter out there is a pin or whatever you wanna call it is held in by a tab on the filter .. check on that too and after that id look into adjusting the bands .
What Ryan is saying is the ford vehicles have a resistor wire not a visible ballast resistor like the mopar products usually did, so and almost any aftermarket ignition systems for the early Ford products will tell you to eliminate the resistor 6 v reduction voltage wire and run a new lead to a known 12 v true power source...
What color is your wife’s Mustang? I’m not really a Ford fan or Mustang fan but I do have an appreciation for the 85 86GT. Those are both really nice cars. Also it is awesome to see you helping out all these young guys. I wish there were more people in the world like you that took the time to help them. Great video.
Economic crunch ford maverick mercury comet, ford pinto and mercury bobcat all before they made the ford escort and the mercury lynx compact economy cars and they did in fact save the ford motor company and the Granada and mercury monarch were added in i think 76
Im interested in seeing how that efi dist plays out … ive got the same thing on my carburated 5.0 and when it gets hot it wont start back because the timing wont advance manually …. I have been told to spin the motor with the key off then flip the ignition switch to activate the dist … that dont work in my case .
@@KeyesKustoms ive done the same thing .. btw i just got home from Church and your new video is the first thing pops up on youtube so guess what im watching ??? Now i gotta do my duty n go over n hit like and leave some sort of comment !!! “Lol

I might have to round me up one of these little hot rods, seems they’re popular.

I bet that thing was a beast with a bbf!! Thanks I really appreciate!
Very kind to help the youngun out. God Bless, teach them the old knowledge before its gone!
I’m trying to, I love to see them passionate about old cars!

Cool to see a young kid wanting to work on the older stuff for a change & came to the right guy to learn.Seems like a good kid.Good job Wesley.
Thank you, I hope more young guys start hot rodding.
The kid wil have a great story to tell one day keep teaching him 👍⚡
I hope someone will talk good about me when I’m gone lol
Great to see young guy wanting to hot rod. Thanks for teaching them.

Fun cars my son built one for his first hotrod
I think so too Steve

Heck yeah

The port on the rear of the modulator valve goes to intale vacume, the front one goes to modulated carb vacuum
Thanks John, I’ll know next time.
Y'all might have to take it to Bob he can tell you watch wrong hope Y'all get it going .

I’m guilty of trying to use old parts myself to save a buck and sometimes it bites me in the butt.

Yep this is true
Mustang II was from 1974 to 1979.
Actually 1974 through 1978
I thought foxbody mustangs came out in 79? I don’t know 😂
Love the Mav except for the hubcaps , they were atrocious when new and never got better, car would look good with some magnum 500 wheels
Yes it would!!

Probably needs it
hey is the topkick a Duramax?
It’s a gas burner big block fuel injection.
