The Avengers quinjet is unique. It is designed for the specific purpose of transporting the elite teams for longer periods of time. In other words, the normal quinjet is what everyone else uses.
The U.S. Government has used two flying aircraft carriers (Macon and Akron) in the past and has tried and is trying to make one out of a jumbo jet. The channel mustard has a great video on airborne aircraft carriers.
Well, if we go further into the past, we have soviet "Звено" system that was used for striking deep into romanian territory at the beginning of WW2. As for modern day example, I've heard that israelis are developing automated patrol blimp with and ability to carry and launch drones. But do systems without abilities to take aircraft back on board count as carriers?
As a 1960's child loved the thunderbirds, I once in the late 80's read them described as neo-primative, but still love them. I always loved as a teen the cover artwork of many a sci Fi paperback's spacecraft, great to see models of sci Fi stuff today.
7:44 "Frakking toaster!" I love the pure child-like joy that comes through in your voice when you talk about the designs you love, it's so infectious! This is my favourite sci-fi channel on RUclips by a country mile
On the topic of sci-fi aircraft, one thing I would really like to see you cover is the Super-Slyph from the book Yukikaze. It has an anime adaptation and a few model kits you could use for visuals. But I want to see it in part because Yukikaze is one of the very few military sci-fi franchises that focuses almost exclusively on air-power instead of space navies or ground-pounders, and the detail reflects that. It's also pretty clear while reading it that it had a huge impact on a lot of later sci-fi authors in Japan the way that Starship Troopers had a huge impact on a lot of sci-fi authors in the west. Another thing to recommend it as an interesting subject for analysis is that it is not, primarily, a combat plane (though it is capable of it) but a recon aircraft built to record an analyze flight and combat data, with an artificial intelligence designed to learn from that (and gets smarter every time it does.)
Shield "The Bus" 616 really deserves an honorable mention. Their new aircraft, the Zephyr, is also amazing, but that original Bus... Idk, it was stated that those were popular in the 90s, and I was really hoping go see such a plane in the Captain Marvel movie, yet it didn't show up... Well, that's what I really call "Taking existing stuff and upgrading it up to 11". They made an airplane flying around the globe feel like a starship visiting different planets. And then... The turbofan Globemaster that also can VTOL... In some scenes you can see some blue glow in the turbofans, suggesting they've also added some hidden upgrades there. A similar plane is only seen in Spider Man Homecoming, with a slightly different design, but the idea was instantly recognizable.
That promotion is one of the best examples of good advertising I have seen in a long time. Hits the target audience, is entertaining, and explains exactly why one needs it. I almost always skip those, but was glad I didn't this time. Well done!
Thunderbird 2! Hell yeah. Used to have a little model TB2 as a kid. Loved that thing, so easy to imagine different rescue scenarios around the house that needed its intervention. Also funny to see my friend's kids playing with Thunderbirds too, really a testament to the show and the designs' lasting appeal across generations.
I'm sorry but the ad for Nord VPN in the middle... is one of the best ad reads I've heard in a LONG time. It just fits so excellently into this channel. It's hilarious, and an absolutely great way to do an ad read. I normally skip through them, but I listened through the whole thing. Thank you for making it entertaining.
I have to admit that seeing #2 revealed as THUNDERBIRD 2 made me smile, but #1 revealed as the SHIELD HELICARRIER made me go " Yes!" and punch the air with my fist. I'm 56 years old, and have been a flying capital ship fan since Cloudbase from Captain Scarlet, so after UNIT's VALIANT, SKY CAPTAIN AND THE WORLD OF TOMORROW's flying base, and the original big-chin Helicarrier from the comics, seeing the MCU Helicarrier given its glory made the kid in me squee in glee.
Personally, I would have gone with the Halo 2 and Halo 3 style UNSC Pelicans. They seem to be some of the most beautiful and versatile aircraft in Sci-Fi.
@@LouseGrouse The Falken isn't really remotely operated. The original intent was to use it with the Zone of Endless/Z.O.E UCAV AI system, but that kind of fell by the wayside after the late 1990s. A manned version using the COnnection For In-Flight INterface/C.O.F.F.I.N. system was developed instead... The early versions of that system, including the Falken's are arguably no more advanced than the holographic HMDs used in the F-35 etc. IRL, but later variants would eventually also be used alongside a neural interface (ENSI). Thunderbirds 2 was an awesome craft! It was also the inspiration for a most important feature of the Eagle Transporter spacecraft in the live-action "Space: 1999" series; which was produced a few years later by the same creators, and sfx team. Smaller than the Thunderbird, and made primarily for spaceflight (it was capable of atmospheric flight if required), the Eagle could also swap mid-ship modules depending on the specific demands of a mission. It was a beautiful ship that was, in essence, a flying utility truck with multiple pods to choose from. The main reason I loved it is that it looked as realistic as anything NASA was thinking of at the time. As a kid, I remember painting the nose of my Thunderbird replica to look like the Eagle! lol
Best part of the whole video (and it was a good vid, the fact that the heli-carrier wins, and all the reasons why, best being 12 year old satisfaction, is great), is the ad, and the disclaimer at the end... just love it.

I’m a little surprised despite all the love for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. that there was no honourable mention for the Zephyr... although is it a spaceship now rather than an aircraft?! I really love the sleek design and how the Quinjets, once docked, almost nestle into the frame along the top. I really wish we’d see some of these designs get official merchandise released, the OG Quinjet especially. Great video, guys! 👍
My favorite on this list is the snowspeeder. When *Empire Strikes Back* came out I was a little kid in Alaska and I had a toy snowspeeder and it was a lotta fun in the snow! Poor Dax.
I don't think I have ever agree more with a list video. When the heli carrier comes back in ultron it literally brought tears of of joy to my eyes. Fun fact the guy organizing the evac barges in that scene is the SHIELD tech from winter soldier who refused obey thee STRIKE team leader when threatened to shoot him which delayed the launch of the evil heli carriers
You know I got upset when you didn't put the hammer head in from space: above and beyond. Then I remembered it was a multi roll space and planetary fighter. Great list
Kind of surprised the F-302 from Stargate wasn't included at first, but, it's not strictly an aeroplane since it has a hyperdrive and is based mostly on BC-304s in space. Man, I love that you're bringing the Thunderbirds back in recent videos, I grew up watching the old marionnette programme and loved it (we're just going to ignore the live action film from the early 2000's), it's a shame more young people don't look into it cause it's "old".
Very cheeky on that commercial tie in, I loved it. Speaking of the Bus I'm surprised you didn't slot it in with the Quinjet since said Jet can slot into the Bus.
@Spacedock actually the USAF actually looked into and even designed a flying aircraft carrier. It is not a new concept either, you can trace the idea back to WW2 were it was experimented with parasite fighters which were aircraft being carried by bombers or gliders. The idea was to have them detach after arrival at their mission area
the helicarrier was quite fitting as I watch avengers, also I agree, those things are beyond badass and cool, would like to have a dozen of them for my next birthday
Well, they're are a couple strategic advantages for having a helicarrier. I mean, imagine if you could bring a whole airport of fighter jets with you to any battle or bring basically a battleship to any battle you wanted to. Also, you would always have the high ground.
You want to bring the fighter jets into battle but not the airport. A carrier should stay on the side line and send its fighters. If you send it into the battle you could replace all fighters with turrets. So - why are there no helidestroyers? Or helibattleships?
Ships are already huge Targets. Putting them into the air so everyone can see and shoot at them with a clear line of sight doesn't sound like a good Idea.
Okay, that Nord VPN commercial is totally worth sitting through the entire video! It's funny, it's topical, and it keeps the viewer (at least, it did me) interested in how it ends. Bravo! I wish more companies would work on targeted advertising like this. Even though I don't need the service, the ad was fun to watch.
If we're talking helicarriers, Stratzenblitz75's kerbal space program iteration, which actually flies according to proper (simulated) aerodynamics and also has a single-stage-to-orbit booster, is by far the coolest anyone has ever built.
I love your choices. For me personally I would have included either the Wyvern or the Falken from the Ace Combat Series. In the Wyvern's case, you could have said variable geometry at least five times and had it not be awkward.

When the heli carrier comes back in ultron it literally brought tears of of joy to my eyes.
Fun fact the guy organizing the evac barges in that scene is the SHIELD tech from winter soldier who refused obey thee STRIKE team leader when threatened to shoot him which delayed the launch of the evil heli carriers
out of all the VPN ads that youtubers do, this one was the best!
By far the most creative in-video sponsorship promo I've ever seen.
I doff my cap at you for the nord vpn ad. That was a genius way of including an ad for a sponsor
You know I got upset when you didn't put the hammer head in from space: above and beyond. Then I remembered it was a multi roll space and planetary fighter. Great list
The only time I've ever not just skipped through the paid content. Very amusing. Excellent work as always.
+1 for putting the Shield Helicarrier in 1st place!
Your number one spot is you just embracing your inner child completely and I love it. XD
I would have like to see the VF-1 Valkyrie in this list. Sure, it can go into space, too, but it is primarily an atmospheric design.
I didn't know Thunderbirds had been remade as a CGI cartoon series? HOW did I miss that?
@@Feroce I prefer Drya, but that's me!
Very cheeky on that commercial tie in, I loved it. Speaking of the Bus I'm surprised you didn't slot it in with the Quinjet since said Jet can slot into the Bus.
The video was good as usual, however that sponsored segment was OTT and very well thought out.
Not gonna lie, this was the most enjoyable mid-video ad I've ever seen.
Ace Combat would like to say hello, Aigaion beats helicarrier.
But does it fly? Does it go into stealth? Does it have the proper firepower?
Has it had a Battlestar Galactica moment?
BeyondDaX That’s what the Gleipnir is for
@@Flyboy2100 What the flub is the Gleipnir?
BeyondDaX Ace Combat X’s Airborne Fortress. It has optical camouflage, can shrug off SAMs and can wipe entire fleets out with it’s Shock cannon.
These were pretty good, but the F/A-37 Talon from Stealth, and the VF-1S from Macross will always have a special place in my heart.
this is my favorite plug EVER!!!
That Add was AMAZING 😍👌😍 that's how every channel should incorporate them! A++ my dude!
I watched your Nord commercial 3 times, Absolutely the best ever! a great addition to your already fantastic channel
Best sponsor spot I've ever seen
Also, great to see sci-fi aircraft discussed, and it was super cool seeing the quinjet represnted
Best commercial break adaptation on RUclips! Loved it! ;-)
Wish more channels would do that...
The line will be forever be stuck in my head every time I watch thunderbirds, TB1 Scott's picnic tables... classic
Well, they're are a couple strategic advantages for having a helicarrier. I mean, imagine if you could bring a whole airport of fighter jets with you to any battle or bring basically a battleship to any battle you wanted to. Also, you would always have the high ground.
*mustafar flashbacks intensify*
Obi wan works for shield confirmed
Even though I don't need the service, the ad was fun to watch.
this ad... :D
Well done, well done!
A reaaly good video AND a creative ad! Nicely done!
'Captain Scarlet', I believe, had a helicarrier with some bad-ass jets. Loved that show as a kid. 🤓
If we're talking helicarriers, Stratzenblitz75's kerbal space program iteration, which actually flies according to proper (simulated) aerodynamics and also has a single-stage-to-orbit booster, is by far the coolest anyone has ever built.
“Setup his picnic table”.
Bloody love it.
I love your choices. For me personally I would have included either the Wyvern or the Falken from the Ace Combat Series. In the Wyvern's case, you could have said variable geometry at least five times and had it not be awkward.
Damn, you made me remember that Thunderbirds episode where they shot down Thunderbird 2. Damn that was intense.
