I really love the Old Republic era of Star Wars, everything about it was just perfectly framed as "The Star Wars you know, but older." The Walkers are less refined and almost experimental looking (the huge sith tripod looking thing springs to mind). The droids are bulkier and don't quite move as fluidly, the blasters look more complicated like by the time of the Clone Wars they'd effectively streamlined the exact same tech to make it maybe a few centimetres smaller. And I love the variation in ship design, I personally am pretty bored of everything looking like a Star Destroyer, a Millennium Falcon or a Mon Cal Cruiser. I really like the Old Republic Hammer-Head aesthetic, the Valour is... interesting if not good and the SIth have those cool looking escort destroyers. Don't get me wrong the angry-grey-space-dorito is an iconic look, that the Harrower just perfects, but I do appreciate the variety of SWTOR... DISNEY.

    • @DevilSurvivor69

Here's the thing, most people just want Ties, X-wing, and Star Destroyer in their Star Wars, unfortunately, and Disney knows this and that's what we get. I appreciate you not being like that and here is to hoping we get more variety.

@@DimaJeydar True that, stagnation is a big thing in SW and it's unfortunate. But, at the same time, think of it this way: how much have swords changed in the past few thousand years? Different metals and forging techniques, but largely looking the same, right? A pointy blade on a hilt. I think it's the same with SW designs. An ISD would outmatch any Old Republic ships because their shields and armor and weapons and overall systems are just way more refined, but the ship itself follows the same basic design.
But it's obviously also just cause star destroyers are iconic lol, can't be Star Wars without that design in the minds of the writers ig

I think it looks different enough. All the ships in this video look a lot like ships from the Galactic Empire when thats, what, 1000 years in the future! I get its cool to have a tie fighter inspires ship but the tie fighter wasn't invented yet. Same with that one star destroyer looking like the imperial star destroyer and I think worst of all are the old republic troopers. Make things look different!

It's not - it actually is a custom vessel commissioned by the Imperial Intelligence in very low numbers. The lore pitches it as basically the most advanced ship in Sith Empire fleet, with powerful sensor suite, "next-generation" navigation systems, stealth plating (and even a limited cloaking device), and even engines and weapons far more powerful than one would expect (I think TOR Encyclopedia said they had a third of the energy requirements of equivalent weapons). At the point where they'd be replacing basically all components with prototypes, designing a yacht from the ground up to incorporate all of this was probably just easier.

By off-bore thrust lines, I will say a TOP example would be SWtOR's Republic flagships. The main part of it is like a bivalve (clam) that has a tower of engines stuck to the bottom. By rights, the thing should ONLY be able to fly a tight loop, getting nowhere.

yeah, even if it'd have been a relatively similar RPG control wise, it would also have massively benefited from not needing to scale the assets up so much for MMO proportions (the 'all rooms are built for 50 foot tall giants' problem), which gave them massive disparity between the visuals of different worlds- Tattoine I remember looking quite nice, in a 'slightly stylised' way, but anywhere featuring a lot of 'enclosed' areas just had a scale that flat out didn't work.

The vibe of the Imperial story was definitely enough to make it one of my favorites, because you really did feel like an important yet miniscule cog in a machine that's always three seconds away from imploding on itself. Especially after Keeper's talk about how they weren't some huge organization of noble patriots serving the Empire, they were basically janitors who spent most of their time cleaning up the messes the Sith routinely left in their wake. Something you also get a taste of with the Inquisitor's campaign, where you see firsthand just how thoroughly ridiculous their infighting can get. To the point that a single petty grudge can threatens to ruin the entire Imperial war effort all on its own.

The Agent's storyline works so well on every single level. They have some of the most interesting companions (there's a reason the Agent's companions have such a prominent role in the Eternal Empire storyline), the quests in the main class storyline take some of the most intricate twists and turns in any game period, and of all the class storylines it feels the least like a straight rehash of other Star Wars stories we've seen before while still firmly feeling like it belongs in that universe.

One of the reasons, I can't find the reference but when they were developing the first story they created for the game was the Agents and they put everything into that story. They focused on giving that class a full Star Wars experience where light and dark meant changing stories... it was the centrepiece of their Alpha builds/production meetings to validate the insane amount of money they were getting. Yes, yes, yes! I also like the YT-2000 - why? Center mounted cockpit! It retains all the other things that made the YT-Series from CEC great, but non of the things that weren't so great, like the side mounted cockpit :)
If I wanted/needed a personal ship in Star Wars and couldn't get the Ebon Hawk (or another Dynamic-Class light freighter - which I also like!) or a WR-542 Shooting Star, then I'd want the YT-2000 (with some modifications, like a droid-brain that supports the pilot and uses the turrets and a beckon-call-system so that the ship can come to my location if I need a quick escape! Better weapons, better shields etc. are of course part of the package :))...hell, if I were a fleet commander in Star Wars then I'd ditch all the flying coffins (otherwise known as starfighters!) and replace them with light-freighters rebuilt as gun-boats! Why? They can take a beating, they are fast enough and they have living quarters so they can fly a constant CAP (and even follow the mothership into hyperspace!) and they are better armed than fighters!
ps: Yeah, the Phantom is my fav. too :) - However I prefer the Jedi-Corvette over the Smuggler-Ship!

It’s my favorite era in Star Wars. while a lot of KOTOR stands justifiably dunk on it a lot, I still love the aesthetic, the stories, and the galaxy position that everyone is placed in. Average citizens/soldiers contending with waring space wizards is the best character perspectives and my favorite to Role Play

Funny you should mention the YT-2000 and how the various corellian light freighters always seem to be gunships in disguise...in-universe, they were ostensibly designed to be courier ships for dangerous runs, but by the time they were discontinued a lot of people had realized that CEC had managed to build the _perfect_ pirate ship.

Beautiful on the outside, gorgeous on the inside.
    2) *Fury-class Imperial Interceptor*
Cool and badass without being too edgy.
    3) *XS Stock Light Freighter*
A beautiful Millennium Falcon-like Corellian ship with its own twist and style.
    4) *Defender-class Light Corvette*
A sleek, sexy improvement to the Hammerhead-class design.
    5) *BT-7 Thunderclap*
Impractical and awkward on the outside, impractical and super weird on the inside.
    6) *D5-Mantis Patrol Craft*
What the Hell is this abominable eyesore? The only ship uglier than the Razor Crest (not by chance, both are bad imitations of Slave One).

    My thoughts:
Defender: a politicians ship, looks fancy, and those engines should be fast
Fury: Idiotic. In a universe where the pilot relies on visual flight rules, you should NOT block the pilot's view
Thunderclap: A soldier's ship. Utilitarian, with plenty of thought going into what a squad will need for down-time and for deployment
Phantom: Really slick. The rich-man's touring ship.
    Mantis: The aging workhorse

Its pretty simple to rate. I kinda like when my character and crew is actually able to call the ship a "home". Which mainly leaves 2 questions open: Does everyone have a bed? And more important: Is there a closed door on the ship thats actually not the escape pod or obviously something else... so i can imagine a toilet/refresher/shower being there? Maybe even a kitchen or another closed door which i can imagine a kitchen in?
    Lets check this:
    D-Tier:
-Defender: Technically a great ship. However.... your crew has to friggin sleep on the ground. They dont have BEDS... like wtf. There is however at least a single door in the lower part that "could" be the refresher/toilet. But better pray there will never be more than one of your crew hurt/wounded at the same time, cuz your medi-station only has one bed. Forget about a kitchen. But the atrium is pretty neat
-Mantis: No toilet/refresher. No "Living room" for the crew either... not even a proper place to play cards or something. Forget about a kitchen. Horrible.
    C-Tier:
-XS-Transporter: I mean...no toilet/refresher either... however.... the only ship with an actual kitchen. Its... okay i guess....
    B-Tier:
-Fury: There is actually a unused door in the storage-room which technically could be a your refresher/toilet..... also a neat living room next to the big holo-thing. However... you need kinda alot of fantasy to imagine that toilet at the end of the storage-chamber. Its fine.... at least it kinda works as "home"
    B-Tier:
    -
    A-Tier:
    Phantom and Thunderclap:
Both are amazing. Both have that "Toilet/Refresher"-Unused Door. Both have nice living areas... both are comfy homes... Phantom is a bit more on the luxury side with its noble design.. however... the actuall living space is actually kinda limited if you closely look at it... the Thunderclap seems more "rough"...... but offers literally anything except an obvious kitchen.... but TWO!!!! unused doors which you can imagine being stuff in. So you dont only have a toilet, you even have a imagnary kitchen.

For example I find the difference in designs for the Zakuulan Flagship (actually designed and produced by Zakuul I assume), and the rest of the Eternal Fleet (designed on Iokath) to be an interesting topic. What would the Zakuulan Navy look like if they had to design all of their own ships instead of inheriting this advanced automated fleet?

The agent's ship is one of my favorites, too, because mostly you can look at the ships and say "ah, yes, it's evoking this OT/prequels ship and makes perfect sense," but you have to give the agent's ship a bit more thought, because the movies never really center that kind of character in any way. It clicked for me as a combination Naboo royal yacht and Star Destroyer, and the Bond car influence is very clear in that former aspect.

The Imperial agent story does 2 things really really well and would argue makes the trooper story also really good, first is what's said about how basically shows military personnel having to take orders from magic lunatics that are obsessed with winning have to live and second is the muck of the republic. Both the agent and the trooper basically have to deal with worse of the republic especially the trooper since being a good soldier usually means giving up the moral highground on most cases which is more refreshing compared to the jedi stories.

  • @dashsocur

My biggest complaint with regards to many Star Wars and (and generic sci-fi) ship designs is how often they stick the cargo bay a LONG ways from the entry hatch (and sometimes put stairs and such in the way). It's like the artists never even considered the fact that the big cargo containers they like to decorate with might actually need to enter or leave the ship.....
This is something the Bounty Hunter's ship seems surprisingly sensible about until you realize that the cargo bay is actually right off of the cockpit (and up a narrow staircase from the hatch) and the area by the hatch is actually more of a workshop/training area.....
Oh, and the HUGE amount of wasted space on these designs. The BT-7 could legitimately transport 24 troopers plus a crew for the ship with hot-bunking but instead we get 5 (plus 2 droids). Imagine how much more effective Havoc could be with some actual numbers instead of having to rely on plot armor in a world where Jedi are relatively common...... On a side note, I really think that the developers missed an opportunity to make the trooper a "horde class" (ie: having the player character significantly weaker than other classes but offset by having 3-4 companions instead of the usual 1). Make it feel like an actual military unit instead of Captain America's Howling Commandos.

    • @dreamingflurry2729
      @dreamingflurry2729 2 года назад

Who actually wants to hot-bunk? Nobody, that's who! As for stationing that many crew on such a small ship permanently: Why? For a larger operation you will use larger ships and for a small commando op you only need 5-10 people :) - as for the commando needing to be weaker? Well: You are a special forces soldier! They learn how to fight force users in this universe (just like Mandalorians do, or the Echani!), they need to know this, so they get it drilled into their heads!

    • @dashsocur
      @dashsocur 2 года назад

Nobody ever wants to hot-bunk and yet, it's still a very present thing in submarines to this day. You also wouldn't be stationing them on the ship permanently, the ship is a transport. They are presumably based out of Coruscant considering how many times you have to go back there.
"They learn how to fight force users in this universe" and that's my problem with it. The Force is such an insane "force" multiplier that it turns someone into a 1-Man-Army. At least the Mandalorians have the excuse of Beskar being extremely resistant to lightsabers and jet packs to help offset the mobility deficit. Echani are trained from birth and have insanely high reflexes and dexterity compared to humans. Even with all of these bonuses, both groups are "almost" able to face Force users on an even playing field (and then only the good ones). What chance does an elite soldier have without any of these advantages?
(I'm deliberately overlooking the Smuggler and Agent as open combat isn't really their thing thematically anyway.)
