Love the videos! I started at Harolds Club in 1978 and ended up managing slot operations for Fitz, Harolds Club and Nevada Club. I loved the history, especially the stories about Lincoln Fitzgerald. It would have been interesting if you touched on the Lincoln Group headed by Phil Griffith, Max Page, Terry Oliver and Paul Manske who left Harolds management to purchase Fitzgeralds and eventually bought Harolds and Nevada Club. Really, a great group of guys. I left in 1990 for the Riverboats and Indian gaming, retiring in 2024.
great piece on ol' Fitz. i didn't realize his early history in Detroit -- now it makes the attempt on his life more understandable. VERY cool that you can still see evidence of the shotgun blast at his old residence. I loved Fitzgerald's for it's Lucky Forest, but I really miss the Nevada Club the most. That upstairs diner was a great place to eat downtown, and the old penny slots helped get rid of the change from dinner.
@@SteveTRYK well, you apparently moved here before i did, so you saw more of the heyday than i did! but i still liked that place, even in its last days.
Steve - Wow- great job! As a historian myself, I was fact checking you - and you got everything right! The failed mob hit on Lincoln Fitzgerald is almost forgotten now - and you did a great piece of history here, documenting it so well. I have seen a couple old news photos online from after the shooting by his former home. Great stuff!
My first ex wife and I always went to The Fitz (as we called it) back in the 70's and 80's, always liked it. It was one the first places I ever saw penny slots.
Interesting history, and not surprising, given the Nevada casino business's origins: ruclips.net/video/uL3yp75Gb7Q/видео.html I used to cut thru Fitzgerald's on my way to work, and drop all the coins in my pocket into the slots (except the pennies, only OLD RENO had penny machines); this was the extent of my gambling, losing a few hundred dollars a year. Since they changed the machines to not take coins I haven't even done that. I seem to recall a second LANDRUM's a few miles further south on Virginia, same exact moderne building design (and now I know why). I'll have to try Beefies. I love outdoor dining. For me here in the Virginia foothills that means the roof area of Schussboom, great beer and food.

You've seen a lot over those years - cheers!
Very nice. I remember both of those places very well when I moved to Reno in 1989.
Nice history lesson, Thanks!

Thanks - I missed the Nevada Club's heyday but I can imagine! Cheers!

Landrum’s! Right across the street from Sewell’s market!
How about a story on John Ascuaga?
John Ascuaga is a viable idea!
Great video as always❤
Thanks! Fun one to do!

Thanks Bob - glad you liked! It was satisfying to poke around this old story.
Found this channel today. Excellent work Steve. 👏👍🤙🙌
Thanks and enjoy!
Doing Reno Proud! Keep up the excellent work!
Absolutely LOVED this! I was born and raised in Reno and never knew about this. 😊
I only found out about it after finding an old newspaper article several years ago! Thanx and cheers!
At 1:53. I believe that empty concrete pad is the location of "The Riverboat Casino". I made lots of money at the Riverboat Blackjack tables !! Lots !
Maybe you put them out of business! ;-)

Penny slots - my kind of game!
Any photo evidence of the pad at the hotel. Ala jackie gaughan and the el cortez in lv?
Not sure what you're referring to - if you mean Fitz's apartment at the Nevada Club, that was bulldozed with the Nevada Club more than 20 years ago...
RENO ... worked at both FITZGERALD'S and the NEVADA CLUB.

Thanks for viewing!
Were you not aware of Landrum’s on Rock Blvd in Sparks?
Obviously some of Fitzgerald’s cash was provided by my mother.
