Duck Hunt is the definition of classic.
I showed my youngest daughter a Duck Hunt clip here on RUclips once, when she was little, to show her what our video games looked like when I was a kid.
She watched the video, gave me a horrified look, and said, "It's mean to shoot ducks! I don't like this game!" 😆

Yesterday (Saturday, April 21 2024) was the 40th anniversary of when this game was released for the Famicom in Japan!
I always thought those flying plates were UFO's
As a kid I took it for granted but now I realize this is a huge technical achievement on NES. Huge well-animated sprites with many colors, with no sprite flicker I can see... This game looks better than many 90s NES games with extra chips, but it's a very early game on the system too, from '84!
Fun Fact, Duck Hunt was released on the Famicom in 84, but on the NES in 85

What they don't tell you as part of this game's story, is that when you get game over and after the dog finishes laughing his ass off at you. You the hunter then take the dog to be fixed, and then you start the laughing in return. >:)

+Lanjar Cahyo Pambudi You hope the thing works. In all honesty, the screen flashes black but with white boxes around the targets, and if the Zapper detects that light, it registers a hit. This doesn't work on newer TVs due to different refresh rates.

I had this as the pack-in game for the Nintendo NES action pack included with Super Mario Bros. was the other game in that cartridge, which was the pack-in for an upgraded Basic Set; unlike with those releases, Nintendo opted to place both games on one cartridge as opposed to having separate individual cartridges. The last NES release to include Duck Hunt as a pack-in was the Power Set, which came with the Power Pad; for that particular release, the 3-in-1 multicart added World Class Track Meet as a third selectable game with Duck Hunt and Super Mario Bros. The game was released as a Virtual Console title for the Wii U in 2014.

How does anyone emulate Duck Hunt even though computers work completely different from a NES hooked up to a TV from the 1980's?
Some emulators give you crosshairs for these games, and you move them via mouse.
This is a pointless game. It has a glitch. Aim at the center of the screen and you won't miss regardless of how fast the duck is. I flipped the game back to 0.

@@Bloodreign1 Duck Hunt was first released in Japan in 1984 for Famicom. The NES arrived one year later.
Now the duck and the dog are "friends" because of Smash 4 and the upcoming Smash game, Ultimate.
