As a 3-4k support this video is triggering my PTSD on the hundreds of games my team controls 75% of the map, I ping and type/talk "control the rosh pit", then my team gets impatient and proceed to feed at the enemy tier 2 mid tower.
9:56 this concept is used a lot in LoL, and it's referred to as "tethering", when you keep the same amount of space between you and the target. Great video, thanks bsj!
It would be really interesting to hear an update on how this "thinking abiut how much of the map the enemies are farming" apply with the recent map expansion.
I remember when there was just one courier for the entire team, and now you can play more relaxed by fkying over a bunch of resources...but back then was all about micro-managing skills and rotations.
The hero tab bar is not how good you are with a hero. It is just your win% combined with how many games you played. So 75% with 4 games is a smaller bar than 60% with 400 games. But it is essentially your % win rate.
Interesting that the two games chosen were easy lanes translating to easy wins, I wonder why evaluate these games? The pos 4 didn't control the small camp in either lane and there was no kill potential on Alaska's pos 1s.
watching this coaching session got me like goddamn 2 games of 6k pubs in NA, pos 4 really did not give a shit about enemy's small camps, meanwhile in my 4.5k to 5k pubs in SEA, both camps are already blocked by sentries before the game starts and most likely to have 2v2's on pull camps and counter sentries every minute lmfao.. 🤣
I watched this whole thing, as a 3k, and I feel like I have learned a few USEFUL things. Trying to better understand what my carry wants to do, little lane things to do, identifying my feeling of the game state and playing accordingly, and understanding how much of the map each side is farming and what to do/not do about it. Thank you BSJ. -Long time cringe viewer
This is a perfect video for me, I come from league and I’ve been really liking lich so far. Honestly using spells/auto attacking enemies is pretty damn easy and basically the same as in league. Courier has taken some getting used to but after a dozen or so games it’s starting to become second nature to have my regen/wards on a constant re supply. Honestly it feels more like im playing StarCraft2 then league. It’s really helpful seeing this lich pull the allied minions to the jungle camps, im gonna have to start doing that. Going good so far Dota isn’t THAT hard if you have rts/moba experience imo.
@@KidTrigger Go look at the distribution tables for MMR. Only about 80,000 people are even immortal (6k+). Most players are Archon 1, with 2.2 million players, and it’s a pretty standard distribution table. The very middle of the pack is average, with both ends of the distribution declining as we reach both extremes. There are more immortal players than Herald, but immortal is HEAVILY outweighed by the middle groups.
My friend use to tell me when i played that i am shit but i am smart. He told me you always think 5-6 steps ahead. That's what makes dota a fun game i am rusty now because i moved from mid to pos 5 or hard 4. I don't play dota anymore but they asking me to go back so i appreciate this video to give me a more in depth view of how dota transform from the time i played . I will be going through for pos 5 coaching sessions and maybe start playing with my friends again. I struggle to get use to dota 2. I am still a baws in dota 1 but people say dota 2 is easier i disagree i found it harder but i also say, if you want to get good at dota master dota 1 it was 90% player 10% hero in dota 2 they made it easy with scout etc. Not saying it's a bad thing just saying it's different than what i am use to.
layers get added as you go up in MMR. When I started dota in 2013 it was low mmr that never warded or blocked, or pulled, and high MMR where all of that happened frequently and was well contested etc, with shades between in the middle MMRs. Those behaviors have trickled down, and higher MMR players analyze the situation differently. Now in guardian and herald the pull camps are usually blocked or contested. The difference is at high MMR they all run a small decision tree (subconsciously or not) involving what heros are in their lane, who is their support matchup, how well can they contest me if they are 1v1? How likely is it their core can come help? How likely is it my core can come help? If I contest, can I help my core? can their support easily? What happens if they block? does their lane push, or is it very defensive? Does pulling even help me as much as harassing if i have to choose? Both teams re running that calculus, and if they both arrive at similar situations betting on the other ones thinking the same thing, sometimes neither does anything cause they try to make a counter play to THAT, and then have to replan. Its like when pros say it is harder to hit an arrow or hook on low MMR players, because pros are thinking of what a pro would do to dodge, or the vision they may have. Low MMR players may just not dodge, and the pros will have thrown a hook that misses because they anticipated skill.
