Literally one of my least favorite parts of the season. Their assumption that all their viewers are morons just proves how delusional they are. Makes you feel like everyone is dying, the doth and un armies, the main characters, all dying to masses of zombies that sometimes move super fast, sometimes can barely walk, then next scene everyone is fine and a few episodes later it's as if 90% of Winterfell survived the Winter.
I mean... Ant-Man was on-screen when he got literally vaporized by Thanos's preemptive strike on the Avengers base, but he somehow managed to survive with the rest of them.

(A little less sarcastically) If a story has more to offer than simply surprises and spectacle, there is much to be had in reliving it. Take a couple years or so and you’re a different person. You watch a show again and you love a character you used to hate, or you pick up on tiny details, or there’s more you can relate to. It’s awesome. I highly recommend re-experiencing your favorite stories, in whatever medium.

I genuinely respect her for not even attempting to hide it. Pretty sure she never even saw the final product in its totality post-production, but based on the script she was given, she knew. There was no way to edit that script into a cohesive narrative. And hats off to her for acknowledging it right away.
'I never cared about innocent people' - Jaime Lannister, the man who carried the slur 'KingSlayer' throughout his life despite honour meaning everything to him because he broke his oath to save innocents. Well done.
He never cared *much* for the people in King's Landing, which is not a lie. We see a sort of redemtion arc, but it's really just about getting to know his good sides. His bad sides are still there. He truly never really cared much for the little people. He had a sense of honour, but not strong enough to prevent him from trying to kill a child to cover up his incestuous relationship. Of right and wrong, but never strong enough to put right above his own wants and needs. He also killed his king not so much to save innocents as to avoid having to try to kill his own father, and to save his own life regardless of the outcome of that, because it was obvious to anyone but the king that the war was lost. And yet, in this scene, he is kinda lying to himself, exaggerating to himself how he doesn't care as an excuse to get to Cersei, the drug he is addicted to. Many addicts easily fall back into addiction, and this is exactly what this is. Jaime never changed much, we just got to know him better. If Cersei hadn't been in danger, he probably could have stayed away. But suddenly he got faced with one last chance to see her ever, and he fell right back into his addiction. And despite our feelings for him, he and Cersei were together their whole lives and together were the #1 villains since episode 1, so it was fitting, in a way, for them to die together. Jaime's redemption, in the eyes of the audience, had already happened, that arc was already complete. But to himself, his primary arc was his relationship with Cersei. "We don't choose whom we love."

Literally all the rules and character building/world building they created for the whole series was broken in the last season. Tyrion is wise yet tells everyone to hide in the crypts against an enemy who can raise the dead. Varys is a master of whispers, a cunning spy/master manipulator puppet master who controls everyone from the shadows without them even knowing yet his betrayal plot is instantly foiled because he tells everyone about it openly. Dany always chooses kindness of cruelty and finds this to be a winning strategy that rallies people to her side only to flip out and set everyone on fire. Jamie realizes he has been manipulated by his siter for years and redeems himself, proving he doesn't need to be evil and can fight for good and can even love another woman (Brienne) just goes back to being Cersei's evil plaything. Bran who we are told for years cannot hold any titles of nobility because he has godlike powers and thus exists on a higher plane than man is named king.

Maybe everyone forgot that this is the same woman who lost her husband and her child, as well as her fertility in the very first season, and she still punished only the one woman responsible, not the entire khalasar that was rescued. She keeps losing her best friends and loyal people from her Khalasar for many years now, so she just lost her mind suddenly the moment she set foot in Westeros? The dragons have so much precision that they ate specific people who sought to harm her many times in close spaces, but she couldn't burn Cersei without torching the whole King's Landing? Maybe that ending could have worked if only they had fleshed it out, but they forgot that dragons or armies are not what made Dany special, she was a dragon herself, she had something majestic, intellingent, graceful and dangerous about her, which is why people followed her willingly. There's a difference between being ruthless when necessary and being insecure and paranoid to the point of cruelty.
@@asthajindal5275 There might have been a point that we all hope for the one true leader that will solve all our problems and be kind but if we ever got that person we'd walk all over them. It was implied Tyrion, Varys all the council were doing deals and plotting behind Dany's back. If they had given it more time and flushed it out for another season or two, I could see her on a downward slope from greatness to saying screw it, I can't trust anyone so everyone is dragon lunch because that's the only way to get people to obey then that might have worked, but they rushed it too soon.
"50% of GoT fans were disappointed by series finale." I can only assume that the other 50% had foreknowledge of how bad it would be and so their expectations were rock bottom.
I think I might fall under this category. I just finished the show (yeah I was definitely sleeping on this show for years) and I agree it shouldn’t have been rushed, but mainly because I wanted more. I’m apparently in the minority of people who agreed with Dany’s character arc. I never really liked her, and she was always overly aggressive an unmerciful. It hit me during the city burning that her dad, the Mad King, did the same thing before he died. I thought it made at least SOME sense. It was definitely not a fan servicey ending, and left me wanting more.

I remember just sitting there after the credits rolled thinking, "wait, is this finale a prank from HBO and they are going to reveal the real season finale soon? It makes sense that a show this big would have the budget to do a prank finale ending." I guess it was just my brain trying to find a reason for the disaster I just watched.
It's not so bad if you tack on that scene where Bran wakes up at the end of an episode in an earlier season. (after he was pushed from the tower.) That's my head canon.
They tried to used the old "dogfight" tactic of coming with the sun behind you so the enemy doesnt see you... the difference here is that it works for the initial attack... after that you are in the open... sooo ridiculous

To put things into perspective: The Long Night, prophesized for literally thousands of years, the end-of-all-days scenario in the setting, the Armageddon that will undo life on the entire planet... was shorter than Theon's time as Lord of Winterfell. Hell, there's a decent chance Joffrey's wedding took longer.

That's why I'm re-watching one of the best fantasy franchises of all time that won a lot of awards, starring a multi-talented cast with great effects and writing, great battles, diverse mythology and lore, and great settings. That franchise is Peter Jackson's adaptation of JRR Tolkien's The Lord Of The Rings.
Game of Thrones was a phenomenon in terms of success and cultural impact, however the ending ruined it all. If I remember correctly, after the outrage of the last season was over, it was as people had forgotten the show. The ending season took away all wishes of people to rewatch the whole show, even the best seasons, because they know everything is ruined at the end.

Before season 8 started I said I was gonna due a full rewatch when it was done. But even now I have no interest. Still love the old seasons but the ending leaves a dark cloud over whole series

For 7 seasons, I could not stop watching this show. I was telling everyone I knew, "OMG you HAVE to watch this!" Then, I watched season 8, and unlike almost every single great series I have ever watched, I never looked back or desired to watch it again. Seriously, I'll never understand why they sabotaged their own show. It had such potential.
I was under the impression that was the end of Arya’s arc. Would’ve been a cool ending for a cool character. But they had to go eff it up. Were they honestly TRYING to do a bad job with all the characters?
@What ? All they needed to do - at a bare minimum was make a season that made sense. Have the battles make sense. Have the character arcs finish in a satisfying way. You arent addressing the actual problems with the season you are arguing that the entire season couldn't be better because of outside factors. This just isnt true. Decisions to make certain things make no sense wouldn't cost anything to rectify. They only needed competent writers.

Except that Danny's army wasn't even weakened. No important character died, none of the Unsullied died apparently and the Dothrais even multiplied. Talk about a nice outcome.
@Ethan only problem with that now is that so many, including myself, have lost interest in the spin offs because of the way they ended it. I may watch some but I'm not amped up with anticipation like I was before this last season.🤷♂️
Thanks to the film History of the World Part 1 I can't see a white horse on screen without saying, "Miracle!" My friends who watched Lord of the Rings Part 2 with me were a little annoyed by this.
Let me get this straight. Dany gets 8,000 Unsullied and after many battles in Essos, assassinations by the Harpies, the war with Cersei, the battle against the dead at Winterfell, she somehow still has just as many Unsullied at Kings Landing as the Golden Company (20,000). Dany must be a witch who can clone Unsullied.
If you think about it, Jaime's arc is pretty realistic: people struggle with their traumas and patterns, sometimes they succeed, sometimes they regress. It's pretty realistic for a person to go back to a sick and toxic relationship and/or behavior, we have all seen examples in real life. But of course it should have been delivered at a different pace
It's so true. The only compelling element of Bran's arch was contingent on him becoming the 3 eyed raven to see what he'd do with that power... he did absolutely nothing with it... the guy could literally look at anything in history ever, warg anywhere on the planet, and potentially take over people's minds... yet did NOTHING. Yes, literally ANY other character is more interesting than that one-note useless waste of time.
What Tyrion meant with the stories thing was that Bran has basically all of history inside his mind, hence he would be the best candidate for king. Idk why people didn't get that.
@@santosic It is true. HBO was more than willing to keep footing the bill for more episodes. The showrunners D&D were the ones who both pushed for the shorter final 2 seasons and also refused to hand it off to anyone else. What's ironic is that the theory is they rushed it in an attempt to move on to a possible Star Wars trilogy they were to direct, but that deal ended up falling through after GoT S8 flopped.

Yep, I'm sure HBO would have happily greenlighted more seasons for their hit show if the creators wanted more time to flesh out their ending. Meanwhile, some creators at Disney, like the creator of The Owl House, wish they could have had more time and certainly would have used it if offered. So foolish to not take advantage of something so rare.
It really is. I mean, three amazing "sagas" ended in 2019, and only one of them lived up, maybe even surpassed our expectations (Endgame - Infinity Saga). The other two barely qualified to be "finales" you know? (GoT, Star wars) And the only place where they both screwed up was in the writing. Everything else was amazing. The writing is what sent those two beloved pieces of art into the sewage. I can't even re-watch GoT cause I know how bad its gonna end.
Benioff & Weiss: It costs way too much per episode, so we have to cut the 2 seasons with the biggest stories into the size of 1 season. HBO: Actually no, our subscriptions are way up because of Game, so please stick around and extend the series. In fact, please do prequels & spin offs as well. Dany the liberator being unmasked as Dany the traumatised mass murderer, Bran the paralysed child becoming king as a symbolic rejection of the power dynamics of the old regime, Jon Snow the prophesied heir not actually inheriting because that entire concept of primogeniture basically caused the problem in the first place, etc. etc.

Bran I guess makes sense but again, rushed. Jon Snow not being the one to kill the night king I don't think made sense given the prophecy but what upset me even more than that was the giant reveal that he's a Targaryan and it kind of meant nothing....that storyline alone needed a good 5-6 episodes to play out, if not a season.

Oh and Sam becoming Grand Maester considering he has no little to no training and left the academy after basically being a janitor for a few months.
He forgot the siege weapons infront of the army, arya and hound being slower than the army going south, arya just walking through the streets, nightswatch not being a thing anymore, wildlings marching north even though they want to live in the south, greyworm and dothraki not carying about john really, etc. Etc.... this ending man

There was season 7??? Last I remember is Dany finally sailing for Westeros and Jon becoming king in the north. They probably left it vague like that on purpose so we make up our own endings
I wish that was the case because then I could rewatch the series, but instead anytime I see anything game of thrones related, all I feel is an intense feeling of disgust and not the excitment I felt before.
It should have ended with the guy pitching saying: “Good this meeting is finally over, let’s shoot this show so I can go work on Star Wars.” Then cut to a headline of D&D being fired from Star Wars.

D&D's name had become a toxic brand after Season 8, so them being attached to the project started to diminish its value and thus, its potential profits. You're right, firing them probably wasn't an artistic decision on Disney's part; it just so happened that it also made sense from a business perspective to boot them off the project.
The hacks in Hollywood can’t create anything on their own. It’s just a machine that makes money off other people’s creativity, grinding IPs into dust and ruining the very concept of storytelling.

Alec Maynard The Joke’s on Disney if they ask D&D for original content. It would SUCK. However, it COULD be a great film if they are asked to adapt an existing great book, which is where they are strong. The Lando books by L. Neil Smith would be ideal since they were already referenced in Solo.

It could have run longer and remained interesting had they written for it. I genuinely respect her for not even attempting to hide it. Pretty sure she never even saw the final product in its totality post-production, but based on the script she was given, she knew. There was no way to edit that script into a cohesive narrative.
And hats off to her for acknowledging it right away.

Yeah the same Jamie who wanted to take the army north to fight the dead to keep them from killing everyone!
He never cared *much* for the people in King's Landing, which is not a lie. We see a sort of redemtion arc, but it's really just about getting to know his good sides. His bad sides are still there. He truly never really cared much for the little people. He had a sense of honour, but not strong enough to prevent him from trying to kill a child to cover up his incestuous relationship. Of right and wrong, but never strong enough to put right above his own wants and needs.
He also killed his king not so much to save innocents as to avoid having to try to kill his own father, and to save his own life regardless of the outcome of that, because it was obvious to anyone but the king that the war was lost.
And yet, in this scene, he is kinda lying to himself, exaggerating to himself how he doesn't care as an excuse to get to Cersei, the drug he is addicted to. Many addicts easily fall back into addiction, and this is exactly what this is. Jaime never changed much, we just got to know him better. If Cersei hadn't been in danger, he probably could have stayed away. But suddenly he got faced with one last chance to see her ever, and he fell right back into his addiction.
And despite our feelings for him, he and Cersei were together their whole lives and together were the #1 villains since episode 1, so it was fitting, in a way, for them to die together. Jaime's redemption, in the eyes of the audience, had already happened, that arc was already complete. But to himself, his primary arc was his relationship with Cersei.

Literally all the rules and character building/world building they created for the whole series was broken in the last season. Tyrion is wise yet tells everyone to hide in the crypts against an enemy who can raise the dead. Varys is a master of whispers, a cunning spy/master manipulator puppet master who controls everyone from the shadows without them even knowing yet his betrayal plot is instantly foiled because he tells everyone about it openly. Dany always chooses kindness of cruelty and finds this to be a winning strategy that rallies people to her side only to flip out and set everyone on fire. Jamie realizes he has been manipulated by his siter for years and redeems himself, proving he doesn't need to be evil and can fight for good and can even love another woman (Brienne) just goes back to being Cersei's evil plaything. Bran who we are told for years cannot hold any titles of nobility because he has godlike powers and thus exists on a higher plane than man is named king.

She keeps losing her best friends and loyal people from her Khalasar for many years now, so she just lost her mind suddenly the moment she set foot in Westeros? The dragons have so much precision that they ate specific people who sought to harm her many times in close spaces, but she couldn't burn Cersei without torching the whole King's Landing? Maybe that ending could have worked if only they had fleshed it out, but they forgot that dragons or armies are not what made Dany special, she was a dragon herself, she had something majestic, intellingent, graceful and dangerous about her, which is why people followed her willingly. There's a difference between being ruthless when necessary and being insecure and paranoid to the point of cruelty.

It was implied Tyrion, Varys all the council were doing deals and plotting behind Dany's back. If they had given it more time and flushed it out for another season or two, I could see her on a downward slope from greatness to saying screw it, I can't trust anyone so everyone is dragon lunch because that's the only way to get people to obey then that might have worked, but they rushed it too soon.

I think I might fall under this category. I just finished the show (yeah I was definitely sleeping on this show for years) and I agree it shouldn’t have been rushed, but mainly because I wanted more. I’m apparently in the minority of people who agreed with Dany’s character arc. I never really liked her, and she was always overly aggressive an unmerciful. It hit me during the city burning that her dad, the Mad King, did the same thing before he died. I thought it made at least SOME sense.
It was definitely not a fan servicey ending, and left me wanting more.

Agreed. That's why I'm re-watching one of the best fantasy franchises of all time that won a lot of awards, starring a multi-talented cast with great effects and writing, great battles, diverse mythology and lore, and great settings.
That franchise is Peter Jackson's adaptation of JRR Tolkien's The Lord Of The Rings.
Game of Thrones was a phenomenon in terms of success and cultural impact, however the ending ruined it all. If I remember correctly, after the outrage of the last season was over, it was as people had forgotten the show. The ending season took away all wishes of people to rewatch the whole show, even the best seasons, because they know everything is ruined at the end.

For 7 seasons, I could not stop watching this show. I was telling everyone I knew, "OMG you HAVE to watch this!" Then, I watched season 8, and unlike almost every single great series I have ever watched, I never looked back or desired to watch it again. Seriously, I'll never understand why they sabotaged their own show. It had such potential.

Let me get this straight. Dany gets 8,000 Unsullied and after many battles in Essos, assassinations by the Harpies, the war with Cersei, the battle against the dead at Winterfell, she somehow still has just as many Unsullied at Kings Landing as the Golden Company (20,000). Dany must be a witch who can clone Unsullied.
Jaime Lannister character arc is a perfect representation of Game of Throne’s quality over time.
It's a shame because they had so many potential great storey lines to wrap up. I don't think I'd even watch a Arya spin off.
Right...let's completely have this character undo all the work we spent almost a decade in building...and then not even try to explain why.

If you think about it, Jaime's arc is pretty realistic: people struggle with their traumas and patterns, sometimes they succeed, sometimes they regress. It's pretty realistic for a person to go back to a sick and toxic relationship and/or behavior, we have all seen examples in real life. But of course it should have been delivered at a different pace

And the only place where they both screwed up was in the writing. Everything else was amazing. The writing is what sent those two beloved pieces of art into the sewage. I can't even re-watch GoT cause I know how bad its gonna end.

Many of us were in denial at the time. If you asked now, it would probably be closer to 80%.
@@jeffallen55 That's how I felt about the HIMYM finale. Right after watching it, I thought, "Well, I would've done that differently, but that was still interesting to see where all the characters ended up." After taking time to reflect and rewatching it... I died a little inside.
I think the other 50% stopped watching the show before the finale. The rest stayed and were left disappointed.

Probably the ones who thought, "Thank God this horrible last season is finally over!" It was pretty obvious early in S8 that there was no way it was going to end well.
Not being disappointed doesn't mean they liked it; they probably lost hope before everyone else. Expecting something terrible means they couldn't be disappointed.

I wish that was the case because then I could rewatch the series, but instead anytime I see anything game of thrones related, all I feel is an intense feeling of disgust and not the excitment I felt before.
It got cancelled after season 6, but they managed to film the first scene of season 7 before stopping.
So are we giving GoT S08 the "Avatar: The Last Airbender" movie treatment? There's no GoT S08 in Ba Sing Se.

D&D's name had become a toxic brand after Season 8, so them being attached to the project started to diminish its value and thus, its potential profits. You're right, firing them probably wasn't an artistic decision on Disney's part; it just so happened that it also made sense from a business perspective to boot them off the project.

The Joke’s on Disney if they ask D&D for original content. It would SUCK. However, it COULD be a great film if they are asked to adapt an existing great book, which is where they are strong. The Lando books by L. Neil Smith would be ideal since they were already referenced in Solo.

Seriously how many shows have been ruined by going way passed their intended end point? Game Of Thrones may be the only show in history to be ruined by ending it too soon, somehow instead of milking the most popular show on the planet dry they decided to rush it and end it ridiculously prematurely.

It could have run longer and remained interesting had they written for it. But when they suddenly got picked up they made S3 which was really boring with a lot of people who very clearly should be dead running around.
It got to expensive. They were paying actors way to much.
