You're not even crossing your hands over in the corrected version. It's also totally fine to put the cables higher, it just puts emphasis on the lower pecs.

bro... the higher placement is just to engage your lower pecs more, you just need to align your arms to the cable wherever you position it
Two different movements right there, the first one is more of a pressing movement while the second one is a fly. Both are beneficial to the muscle.
