They have to acquire assets that will make them better (or at least keep them level). Why? Because the Spurs own their future for the next 3 seasons. They can't tank. They don't control their own first round pick until 2028. So if they salary dump Trae and get worse there is no upside for them.

The next drafts are very valuable. The price is very high for Trae who, we don’t know his defensive possibilities. Furthermore that will put them in a contender situation for which they are not ready yet. For me next year, will be to solidify the team,and led some potential to develop. I dont like Trae in san Antonio. I know he has greats ups, but his downs are too much. If the Spurs trade for Trae i Think they need to put the price lower than that because in a few Years when Trae became a Weakness in the Playoffs we need more picks or Wings to get better...

In a draft that there is NO clear #1, you would give up TWO top 8 picks in exchange for a chance to grab #1 pick. WHY?
I prefer to keep the two picks. But it’s up to the spurs. I think they’ll ultimately make the right decision
