- A driver is recovering after he was shot in what police said was a case of road rage Monday morning. Forsyth County Sheriff Ron Freeman said an angry driver pulled out a gun and fired multiple times at a man who had honked his horn at him for driving too slow.

Murder is a deliberate act with the intent to take a person's life. It would be hard to prove that was his intent. That's why a lesser charge was selected as it is easy to prove beyond a reasonable doubt. Just firing at random into the car is very different from if they stopped at the roadside and had words then this idiot pulled his gun and shot the other in the chest killing him. That would be an easy murder to prove in court.

Truth. That's why I never use my horn, just brake early and drive a little under the limit. Even had a cop stop me for driving 50 in a 55, and he was evasive in his reasoning for stopping me. Kept me there asking again and again if there was some kind of a problem, finally I said, "Just go call your supervisor out here and we will let HIM straighten you out, that I broke no traffic laws and this is illegal imprisonment to keep me here for 50 minutes without ANY charges, just you THREATENING to call out a Drug dog to search my car. And me refusing every time you ask me to let you search it. My Lawyer is gonna love this." Less than 5 minutes later he walked back to me, telling me to watch MY attitude and start driving legally. What a joke these BULLIES WITH BADGES are!

Aggravated assault is a slam dunk to prove in this case - the penalty is between 1 and 20 years so he could catch 20. Conversely trying to prove murder has a potential for a jury of morons to not find him guilty.
They might not get a conviction if they go for attempted murder. It's hard to prove his intention was murder beyond a shadow of doubt. It's very difficult for prosecutors to prove to a jury what a suspect was _thinking._
Prosecutors are more likely to get a conviction if they go for the crimes they know they can prove: possessing and firing the gun. They have witness testimony and physical evidence and a confession that proves he fired the gun.

The cop was completely in the wrong here not only tailgating but trying to get the guy to do something illegal. The guy being honked at acted completely in self defense. His actions were justified and he deserves to be free.

I’m not going to lie, I’m at risk of becoming that type of person because of circumstances/problems in my life. Just simply resenting authority and really just repudiating all of my obligations to submit to authority because I hate being controlled. I've been saying that people who cruise in the left lane are the worst people for decades and this guy just proved me right.
My mother always did this. Finally I asked her why. "It's the thru lane," she told me. Maybe that was true when expressways were first built and a lot less traffic. We discussed it, she never did it again.
It's true!! My mom did it all the way home from Cedar Point once and she's stabbed me. She was doing it *to* enrage people. She was doing the exact speed limit and I was trying to get her to realize she was wrong, but she kept saying "I'm doing the speed limit".
How about you just have a little patience or pass them? It’s really not that serious. People act like every place they are going is an emergency when 99% of the time it will not kill you to wait a few minutes.

The first sign of crazy, with major reason to arrest them in the first place, and they choose to ignore it and be gentle about it. Those aren’t the people we should try and understand. We should understand that if it happened once with little reason, then it could happen again.

I was driving, and a guy in a work truck was hogging both lanes, so I hit the horn to let him know, and he went ballistic. He stopped his truck in the middle of the road, and he went into a disgusting fit of rage. I went by him ,and he started following me and then passed me and stopped again to rage some more. I went around him again to get away but I couldn't find a good place to get away. So I stopped, and then I could see him in my mirror coming up behind me . I thought he would stop or just go around me. He plowed into the back of my truck .He got out of his truck and came up trying to get into my truck, but my door was locked. He was cussing and yelling at me . I called the police. Be careful out there folks.

Observing how people drive you can see the individual's real "personality". That should illustrate how many people are angry, in a hurry and see others as mere obstacles.
Some people,and I have ridden,or rode,whichever you prefer,with more than a few of them really do get off on trying to annoy other drivers by purposely getting in their way,blocking lanes and slowing down. I've had it done to me and have witnessed drivers do it to others. Some folks are just buttholes everywhere they go - even when they're driving. 🚗
100%. How people drive or operate any vehicle/machinery is an extension of their conduct/behavior outside of that vehicle.

There is a flip side to that someone who gets in the fast lane and is going the same speed as the other lane and doesn’t move out of the way to let everyone else by is inconsiderate and has no intention of trying to share the road with the rest of society! While it isn’t ok to shoot them their inconsiderate selfish attitude can be infuriating! If you want to drive slow good for you drive slow that’s what the left lane is for but don’t take over the fast or passing lane and hold it hostage! That’s a real Dave and Karen move.

I am a considerate driver but also not a slow driver, so get out of the fast lane if you’re not going fast. It is not your responsibility to speed police the fast lane and doing the speed limit in the fast lane is also unacceptable if you’re not passing someone. Just get over. It’s rude and inconsiderate to block other people’s flow.

@Georgia Carry the main difference between aggravated assault and attempted murder is the presence of intent. Though neither crime results in a death, the charge will be attempted murder if you the defendant intended this outcome. Attempted murder is a premediated crime, while aggravated assault is not. Life was simpler when we rode horses , moved around in covered wagons and typically stopped to chat when you met someone on a dirt road instead of seeing them as obstacles in our lives. Community has been lost but we have our phones.

Every single time I am on the road I see dangerous careless driving mostly in the form of excessive speed, erratic non signaled lane changes, tailgating, cell phone use, just to mention a few. It's made me into a hyper defensive driver but even at that no one can eliminate the risks. Being shot at has become quite common here.

@@eksbocks9438 Here in a city of two interstate highways they say that in 2022 92% of all driving related fatalities involved felony speeding or 10+mph over the posted speed limit. Strangely we have also had an epidemic of pedestrian related deaths. Your right driving the speed limit makes it dangerous for the other speeding drivers in the area.

Just yesterday I was behind a driver going slower than everyone as they were traveling in the left lane . they refuse to move over. These individuals don't surprise me if they produce a gun as they are clearly mentally unstable for insisting on breaking the traffic law.

If you ever feel that someone is so violent and out to get you enough for you to feel you need to get a restraining order against them, by all means, do that, BUT, ALSO, buy a gun, and get training on how to use it, AND PRACTICE AT A RANGE WITH IT!
The fact that he already had a restraining order and a gun when he shouldn't have, just shows this off duty police actually might have stopped a potential future crime.

The suspect has a restraining order and shouldn't be in possession of a firearm..... another example of how restraining orders don't work. It's better for victims to have a firearm at all times to defend themselves.

@@Junior-rt6xr most likely if someone punches you and you shoot them you will go to jail. they have to be constantly assaulting you, basically you have to be in fear of death or great bodily injury. one punch is not necessarily that.

You must drive on roads with no traffic. Trying to put 3 lane traffic into 2 lanes just doesn't work. There's no need for anyone to drive OVER the speed limit in the fast lane, because, you know - speed limit.
You shouldn't be on the road if you think the left lane is the fast lane and not the passing lane.
@@XsaviXander In our state, the law says the right lane is for slower traffic. The only thing it says about passing is to pass on the left. Anyway, I never drive in the left lane, but I do take it well before I'm going to make a left turn if the traffic is heavy, so I won't be cutting someone off or not be able to make the turn. It is not only for passing. It is also for planning ahead so you don't have to do any last minute maneuvers in traffic.

I didn't pull my firearm on the kid that T-boned me yesterday, even though three witnesses and intersection cameras saw him run a solid red light ( while texting). Im lucky to be alive. The 22 year old who hit me is facing some serious charges. Hope he learns his lesson.
ALWAYS watch other cars approaching an intersection. if they show no sign of stopping you better be ready to stop yourself.
NEVER assume the other drivers are going to do the right thing. its the only way to keep yourself and other occupants safe.

I got pretty mad once when some jerk blew his horn at me for stopping to check traffic at a red light to make a right turn. He wanted me to blow right through it I guess. It was a momentary stop, just long enough to make sure no one was coming from the left. People are crazy. That was a few years ago, I gave him the one finger salute. Thankfully that was before everyone was carrying a gun. I wouldn't do it now.
