I just wanted to drop a comment to say thanks for your videos about the Transalp. You helped me choose between this and a few other bikes I was looking at, and this past Monday I rode my own Transalp home from the dealer. What an absolutely perfect bike.
Well thanks for taking the time to tell me😊 I’ve been quite confident recommending the Transalp, as it’s a very good bike for the money. Hope you continue to enjoy yours👍
I've had custom exhausts on my last two bikes but I'm not going to bother with my Transalp as I'm quite happy with the sound and spending nearly £1000 on an end can will see me in the divorce court.
That sounds actually quite nice. I have not had very good experiences with aftermarket exhausts. I tried Staintune slip-ons on a boxer BMW and a Triumph Scrambler and they were horrific. Way too loud, with or without baffles and the engines ran crappy and would have needed a remap. I bought those exhausts used to try out and sold them again shortly after without losing any money. From my experience, people don't want their exhaust to be much louder but instead less tinny with a nice rumble and some throatiness. If you want loud, you might as well straight-pipe the thing.
Thank you so much for your Transalp videos! They have helped me decide that I'm going to pick up a Transalp myself. Plus the LockPickingLawyer comment made me die of laughter😂😂😂
Thank you for the video...I could not fathom spending almost $1000 on a slip on that saves 4 lbs, is a few decibles quieter and claims a 1 hp increase.
Hi. No, I haven’t had any problems like that, either on the Transalp or the Tiger. Maybe stick some heat shield protection used for car engine components on the Dusc😊
Are you still liking the DUSC panniers? I love the pro carrier because you can quickly disconnect it. I keep going back and forth between the DUSC and the Sysbags. I have their Urban top case and really like it.
your description is bang on. I like the less metallic, deeper sound, of the Akrapovic. Is it worth the money? Guess it depends on how deep your pockets are more than anything.
Whod of thought we are now putting aftermarket pipes on to make them quieter.😊....first time ever i bought a non standard pipe for my vstrom1050xt/ pipe now on my old 650vstrom excellent made. nice suttle sound and well priced...shameless plug for FUEL of kendal cumbria...😂👍atb dave..
Much prefer top loading cases, I bought some Givi Trekker Dolomiti 37lt each side in black for my tiger and love how they have a carry handle to easy move them about. The Akra looks great 👍 I see triumph have just announced a partnership with Akrapovic so hoping to get one on my tiger
That's quite an investment for just a muffler and short pipe, although as you say - Akra stuff is good quality, and carries a commensurate price tag. I am hoping they might come out with a complete, lighter system, with a higher positioned muffler. But if you want to lighten your Transalp, just try whipping off the rear rack, as I just did. That monstrosity weighs 7 KGS!! Over a stone in 'the old money', sitting 'high, wide and handsome' at the top rear of your bike. It instantly puts the Transalp's weight under that of either the Aprilia Tuareg, or the Yamaha Tenere, neither of which come with a rack. Now I don't want to put it back on. You can actually feel the difference while riding with it off. You can almost back off the rear shock preload for the difference! Now I'll have to make a lightweight aluminium replacement... The standard cast one must be full of zinc - its weight is crazy on a 'lightweight model'.
Wow 7kg that must be cast iron to be that weight. For reference the bmw f800gs one is 1.4kg and aluminium. Also the max load is 8kg. So it can only just carry the Transalp rack.
Thank you so much for your Videos, you helped me a lot in my desicion regarding the accessories :) i go for the same setup like you (protection and cases) i am wondering if there is backrest for the Dusc case like swmotech has it for the trax case ? liked & subscribed ✌
Yes, tall screen + deflectors work for me. It’s never going to be a Goldwing, but it’s good enough and a lot better than short screen / no deflectors😊👍
I owned an 1150 GS for 19 years. It was a great experience, but I was hoping you would skip the GS and wait for the yet to be introduced Moto Guzzi v100 Stelvio. Regardless, I have followed your journey with the Transalp since you ordered it, and always look forward to the next video.
Akrapovic is fitted as standard on my FTR. It's nice and civilised and I'm happy enough with it. But would I pay extra to replace an existing can? Nope.
Hi, can you show up your battery "saver" install ? I'd like to put one on my TP. Cheers. ps- thank you for the videos. It help decide for which bike to by.
I use these chargers: www.ctek.com/uk/battery-chargers-12v-24v/vehicle-type/motorcycle/mxs-5-0-uk You attach the cable provided to the battery and then cable-tie the connector to an easily accessible part of the bike. I keep mine plugged in 24/7 when the bike is in the garage.
Unfortunately, this SW-Motech bracket does not fit for higher exhausts, such as SC-Project & Co. I'm looking for a bracket that fits my exhaust "SC-Project", currently only Mosko fits
@Leinetal_Rider I have the same issue. I've got the SC Project Xplorer exhaust and I'm wondering if I could fit the 37L Givi Trekker Outback cases. Have you found anything that fits the higher exhaust? Thx!
Can’t say I’m a fan at that price, it just isn’t a big deal from the standard, and as I always wear ear plugs it really wouldn’t make a difference to me. The cat may appreciate it though! Lot of catnip.. she may complain.
Great review. The transalp can certainly be made to look very touring oriented or more dakar like. It morphes very well with both styles. However, the touring look in my opinion makes it less appealing. The hepco and becker skid plate is much better looking than the honda branded one. That one makes it look bloated and heavy like an nt1100. I like the swmotech cases. They are very functional but would like to see if any other type of cases/luggage look better on it. I own a vstrom800de and the utilitarian silver top case works very well with the style of the bike. I think but I am not sure, soft luggage may look better on the transalp and may help it conserve the dakar styling/profile.
Thanks. Glad you like the look. Soft luggage often looks better, but it’s difficult to secure which is a problem for me when I tour. When I park up in a city for lunch, I like to be able to lock my stuff😊
@@RocketMan_Moto that makes sense. It is always a compromise, function over style in this case. Like I said, the transalp fits both styles very well. So when you are not touring you can have a dakar race to starbucks 😉
So your Transalp could be getting the chop soon if the new Beemer lives up to expectations? The Akrapovic exhaust sounds good btw, but not 900€ better than the std one. Even if I had a Transalp to keep 900€ is too rich for me and I suspect many other owners. ATB.
@@RocketMan_Moto, the stock exhaust has a large heat shield along its body and the Akrapovic doesn't have a heat shield except a small optional carbon patch on the exhaust pipe. Do you find it to be an issue?
Does seem a tad excessive at that price.. Handmade in Cumbria FUEL top of the range Stealth slip on in CF is £400 with removable baffle! Getting one to Portugal might be a problem though..
Typically, these hydraulic pipes ("accessory exhausts") do nothing more than produce annoying noise. I was surprised that the factory exhaust in the Transalp is so loud. Too loud for me. If I understand correctly, this "accessory" one is a bit quieter? It's good that you enjoy it :)
Pipe seems a bit pricey, try Fuel exhausts in the UK, I've had 3 of them and they are TOP! Not getting any commission from that plug, just great value and sound. On another note Rocketman, don't you find it has a horrible snatchy throttle, I was considering one but that and the cheapo plastics (especially the bit behind the fairing that you stare at all the time) put me off, a shame?
This might be my first motorcycle, but why hasn't Honda released the white version in the USA. I won't spend money on the black version. Why does Honda do this?
Hate to be the bearer of yet more bad news, but the North American Transalp also gets 10hp less and a single-barrel exhaust. No idea why Honda is punishing you like this. Californian emissions regulations?
Thanks for the info. Who knows maybe I'll just save all that money. These companies don't make a great case for me parting with that much cash. Time will tell. Thanks again for the reply. @@RocketMan_Moto
Most if not all euro5 aftermarket exhausts produce about the same noise as the stock one as long as you use the baffle which is rivetted in order to get the homologation.Weight saving is a plus but the cost of akrapovic is outrageous..and imho it doesn't match the transalp style..there are much cheaper options that look much better.

MIVV exhausts has the Dakar version available now for the TA. A high positioned muffler. Looks and sounds good too.
That sounds actually quite nice. I have not had very good experiences with aftermarket exhausts. I tried Staintune slip-ons on a boxer BMW and a Triumph Scrambler and they were horrific. Yes, I was pleasantly surprised by how much quieter than stock it is. I was expecting louder.
Holy moly!
Akra make pipes without cruddy carbon end caps you can smash!
I was pleased it didn’t have carbon adornments on it
Thanks for the really Great Videos! Very Helpful for me deciding for the Transalp

Hi @RocketMan - which navigation bar are you using / which quadlock product? Does is stay vibration free?
Bought it on AliExpress. Surprisingly good quality for +/- €15. Zero vibrations. Just bought another one for my new Tiger 900👍😊

Blimey, I hope it’s the mic set up which is accentuating the clunky gear change noise. Interesting vlog though. Thanks for posting.
Very difficult to record good sound on a bike. The Transalp has a very slick change😉
Luke the panniers. The width is key if you travel a lot.
The exhaust I would leave. Too much.

@@RocketMan_Moto, the stock exhaust has a large heat shield along its body and the Akrapovic doesn't have a heat shield except a small optional carbon patch on the exhaust pipe. Do you find it to be an issue?
Not for the heat, but I did fit a small universal protector on the pipe just to hide the joins a little.
My opinion the factory sounds best, I think Honda did exceptional job, Weight saving is a plus if your after saving weight for the Akrapovic
Also i would like my aftermarket Exhaust to be mounted high like the sc project titanium
