I have been to multiple cardiovascular doctors, a neurologist, and hospitals etc for massive chest pain and numbness all down my left side of my neck, arm, and body with my jaw trembling. None of them described this to me or even mentioned it. Periodically these symptoms would be so painful they’d trigger a panic attack because I thought I was having a heart attack. I could not believe my eyes when I saw the pain chart as no one could ever explain why my thumb was going numb and my chest, neck, and back had symptoms. I was repeatedly told I just had anxiety and they put me on Xanax and Zoloft. This has helped me much more than any of that did. Thank you!!!!
same, i feel you its so sad but im grateful for this vid💯💯💯
I have been going through pain in shoulder , arm and tingling in hands for almost 2yrs. Have been to chiropractor, orthos, got relief for a day or 2. Practiced what you have explained in this video and it has done magic. Have got relief 80% in 2 days only. Thanks Dr Mandell.
this feels like some sort of magic. even just 10 mins has helped my symptoms. I am one that has the swollowing problem, and down to front chest and back. thisis helping so much. cant wait to watch all the old videos
Woke up with a severe headache and knew there was a problem in my neck muscles. Found your video and applied what you said and got back to a deep painless sleep. Thank you!
I've suffered all sorts of unpleasant neck-related symptoms, for decades, and tried all manner of stretches, exercises and healing contraptions, with only minimal effect. This is the first time I've felt an actual muscle knot, and boy was it tender! I was pressing it throughout the video, and it's still incredibly tight and sensitive, but now I know what I need to focus on, and what I can do about it. Many thanks, Alan!
You have literally saved my life I’ve been dealing with sever knots to where I cldnt work out anymore I would get dizzy and have headaches within the very first time I felt huge relief thanking you would be an extreme understatement
thank you Doc! You’re the only one who helped me to discover the cause of pain in my arms, hands, etc.God bless you more!
you are one of the greatest doctors alive thank you so much for helping all these people and myself with all the problems we have!!
Exactly my problem. Thank you, Dr. Mandell! Your work is helping me take my health into my own hands. I've learned an enormous amount from you.
Keep the good work Dr, I had pain in so many areas on my right side. I’ve tried so many stretches and the problem kept coming back. Unitl I pressed on these trigger points and magically everything got relaxed. Thanks a lot.
I had so much tension, headache and limited neck motion from poor posture and very long hours on the computer in awkward positions. This helped so much. Thank you!
I've been following your videos for over a year now. Al last I know now what helps me.... Stretching the SCM, scalene and occipital muscles.... Amazing.. I don't use the towel, yust the weight of my head, because otherwise it hurts too much. For two days now I wake up with a better neck and I can turn my head with less pain! Thank you soooooo much!
This is so helpful!! I have a shortened right side of my jaw so the left side jaw and neck are always tense. Recently I started working at a grocery store stocking and have been having intense tightness in my neck shoulders and tingling in between my left scapula and spine. I think this may be the key to releasing all that tension and tightness. Thanks so much for all you do, to help people understand their bodies more and give them the power to heal their issues. 🤗🙏💜
Many thanks, Dr Mandell. I did this as you instructed and the pain in the neck is gone. I could turn my head to left. If I do this often then hopefully, the pain in the shoulder, chest, arm and between the thumb and forefinger will be gone too! Thanks, again...
I’ve been on and off bodybuilding for years now because of this pain in my shoulder that over time got worse and spread down to my arm and fingers and also some pain in my chest and mid back area, as well as difficulties with swallowing. I worked on the trigger points you referred to in the anatomical Bermuda Triangle and it was definitely painful. Also did the towel technique too and after doing those, I was literally feeling this weird sensation from my neck down my shoulder to my arms, right exactly where they used to hurt, but now in a relieving sensation. For the longest time I have been unmotivated to workout because of these injuries, I can’t thank you enough for helping me figure out and solve my problem. I can’t wait to finally completely recover and get back to doing physical activities without any pains and problems.
Would you recommend getting off weightlifting when you have a triggering point? Mine is just in the upperback and I am very frustrated that I can't lift heavy weight due to the pain
Thank you so much for your videos. You’re a genius and a God sent gift to me and so many others like me. I have 3 herniated disks, c4, c5, & c6, a pinched nerve and I have lost use of my right arm. I have seen a neurosurgeon and currently go to physical therapy 2x per wk. Nothing and no one has been helpful, Except for YOU!!! I feel better after every exercise I learned from you and I feel my arm getting a little stronger every day. God bless you!
Ps. No drugs because I’m in recovery and I’m in constant pain of level 9-10. Can’t sleep or concentrate, I’m crabby and a mess. I use ice, massage, your exercises for course and I just bought a TENS Machine. Not to mention lots of prayers. I’m really tired of this pain and problem with my arm. I hope there isn’t permanent damage after all this time. (2 weeks without use). I just wanna live damnit!
@@pudgyplanter1130 did you ever get relief? I hope so
@@SerpWerx I had disk replacement surgery. So, yes I feel much better. I can use my (R) arm again but it's still weaker than before. Nonetheless, I am so much better than I was. Thank you for checking up! Very kind of you! Hope you are well too.
For quite a while now I have been complaining of a pain that feels like someone is trying to pull my collarbone out of my body. After agreeing to and having posterior cervical fusion done I have been experiencing similar pains and also even more pain in my hands. Pain is bi-lateral. I am so done with the medical establishments thinking we are all cut from the same cloth and the 1size fits all solutions they come to prescribe. I have started to "listen" to what my body is telling me and researching drug free ways to relieve the extreme pain I am in 24 hrs a day. Thank God for people like you that give us the tools to heal ourselves.
Thank you! Thank you! I have been going after my traps thinking that was the issue behind my soreness in the neck, shoulder blade and triceps. Doing this have me immediate relief. You are the best. Thanks for sharing the information.
I've had a lump in my right shoulder for years and never knew what it was, til now. Plus I've had terrible migraines not knowing how to correct but knew it was related to my sore neck! So thanks Dr. Mandell, I'm gonna try applying pressure to those points. 😉👊
love your videos. I have so much tightness all over my neck that has caused other issues (vision, headaches, general aching). Videos have helped but I need a office visit!
Omg ive been having neck pain for the past 5 days and Ive been losing sleep due to the pain but I tried this and it helped so much
Thank you so much doctor, I feel so relieved I had that muscle neck pain all my life. Now it’s all gone, feel so good, god bless you doc
Another banger of scm ness aha how are u nooe? No issues now or very little?
Good morning from Penang, Malaysia. Dr. Mandel, you're God-sent to millions of sufferers.
No doctors have ever explained ailments and their cures like the way you do.....
God bless. Be blessed. Stay bless.....so that you can continue to be a blessing to others.
My good doc. I got this kinda office syndrome. My neck was killing me. I got shoulder pain. Went to the gym to train my shoulders. Didn't go away. Went to the hospital for a checkup. The doc said it was nothing. Gave me a pain meds which helped but the pain came back. It got worse and worse. Doc at my country's hospital couldn't do anything. I started to research my own condition and found this vid. And I have to write the whole symptoms in past tense.
Nice - this gets to the nagging numbness and tingling sensation that I keep getting in my outer right hand, especially after I have been sleeping for a while and it makes it feel like it has also gone to sleep on me. This is one of the symptoms that I have had to remind myself to not mention to my neurologist, because then he will drive me nuts with a whole bunch of appointments, tests, and referrals just to rule out what could have been fixed with much less hassle.
Thank you, this helped me. I'm a massage therapist and I went to another therapist explained I believe my scalenes are giving me issues. Well he did not work on them and I still remained with the discomfort but now I can do this myself!!!!
Thank you doctor mandell.I follow you for few months now.I really got many benfits specially with reducing blood pressure without medication. Now I 'm trying to find a treatment for legs &feet numbness and thigh pain.Thank you Sir.
OMG Doc I have been having these pains for months but this has helped gonna do this everyday
This worked for me! Thank you so much! I still have a lot more to do, but I have renewed hope which is almost just as important than overcoming the physical contraction of the muscle. Wow.
What's your issue if I may ask?
@@silverfullbuster9177 Chronic neck and shoulder tightness pain, etc. Do u practice in NYC?
Thoracic outlet syndrome. I've had it for 8 years. Very uncomfortable to painful.
Thanks for the info!
How is it now. I believe I've got it.
Wow! I get vision, sinus, tingling, tension headaches, and your video has helped me!
Thank you so much for this. I have torticollis on my right side. All of these muscles that you described are very tight, tender and knotted as well as my shoulder. Especially My rotator cuff function. My left side is also bad but not as weak/knotted as the right. This is my goal in life to fix this problem. I am learning more and more each day.
Thyone dear I'm also giving through similar kind of problem ....keep in touch
I have it too. Am struggling a lot.

How did you know? Just the information I very much needed. I had been pressing on the trigger points as I had found them on my own, however, I wasn't sure I was doing the right thing. And I had a feeling the inflammation and pain I was feeling was causing the sore, clogged feeling in my throat but wasn't sure. Can't tell you how much I appreciate your help! Bless you.
Blessings dear
Wow. Weird. I've been dealing with reduced motion in my neck which I was unable to tilt to the right. Chiropractor said I was dealing with kyphosis and we've been working on things. But hunting down these trigger points made a HUGE difference. I can now tilt my head. Color me flabbergasted.
Expell sister please i am yashvant please expell sister

💕💕Dr. Mandell 💙 Making Life LOVELY one lesson at a time!! Thank you for teaching us the LANGUAGE that our bodies SPEAK, for teaching us how to LISTEN and communicate with it!! People really NEED to pay attention to the Vessel, INSTEAD of RELYING on Narcotics to keep them NUMB and DUMB. Love YOU!!
Much aloha and thank you so much🌴🙏🏡 Healing ourselves with our God-given hands amen❤
Great video! Very informative and explains a lot of issues I'm having. Will keep this vid for future reference.
In the beginning you explained the cycle of the muscle not getting nutrients and wasting away. What do we do if we didn't catch this problem until after a long time and the muscles have wasted away to the point of extreme weakness? Even wearing a backpain in aggravating my scalenes now to the point of spasming
Thanks Just forget how important it is. From doc to doc😊
Thanks. I'll keep trying this tips.
I wish I met a doctor like you in real life Alan. A neurologist cant diagnose my problem, doctors don't understand it. When my head/neck is unsupported the scalenus muscles on the right hand side contract pulling my head to 1 side. I'll try this and hopefully it'll help me.
Thanks Dr.mandell
I follow your videos it's great and helpful
God bless you
This is exactly the one of the problems I am having
thank you Dr. Alan Mandel
youre the best man! hope you have a good one today
Thank you, my head feels better already!

Great video, very helpful! Thank you Dr. Mandell!

It's definitely good pain. Is it possible to get rid of trigger points that have been there for years?
I need answers to this as well
Great videos & channel. Thank you Dr.!!
Hi Dr M,
I suspect my very mild tinnitus is musculoskeletal in origin given it dramatically intensifies when I press the side of my head against my hand, and significantly more so when I press the back of my head against my hand. I found some studies indicating that releasing trigger points around the SCM and Scalenes improves this type of tinnitus. I found many very tender spots around these as I followed your video. Is there anything more you could add about the connection between tinnitus and structural imbalance and/or nerve pressure?
After 6 months of physio and massage I discovered the scalenes. I had a severe chronic outbreak of headaches, extremely bad. These guys were the culprit for some of the worst experiences of my life. Not to be underestimated.....I’ve been doing almost the exact set of pressure points/massage/stretching for the last 2 weeks with significant relief. These work
Dr Mandell, thanks for the video. I would like to ask if those trigger points can help with inflammation of the supraspinatus tendon on my shoulder that gave me lots of pain when I move my arm?
I'm going to try this. I get migraines that go into my tooth. Terrrible pain in tooth. Nothing wrong with tooth dentist says. Think nerves in neck
Thank you Doctor. You made my day 👍🏻😊
I got hit on my right trapizous near my neck. The contraction I believe touched the scalenes muscles and caused pressure on the brachial plexus. It lead to inflammation, numbness from right shoulder ,arm and two small fingers. It was a terrible pain.. won't allow anyone to touch my arm. Several weeks later pain in the two hands that resembles the carpel tunnel showed up. ( The person who hit me was a coworker " was tapping my shoulder but used excessive force by doing it, felt contraction in my neck instantly). This happened in October 2017, went through physiotherapy.. today is September 2020, still can feel some contraction in trapizous.. little pain still in two hands.. shoulder can't do heavy effort, I will feel pain after.
Such a helpful video..i finally feel relief
i wonder if scalenus muscles issues could cause ear, eyes and occipital area pains ?
Thank you so much Dr wish you have a great day.
Such great info! Thanks Doc!
Dr Mandell. You are always my go to for anything structural/muscular. Not sure if you can reply. Scalene and muscles running from top jaw bone above ear and down both sides ear, massive muscle spasm so much so it’s a massive lump below my ear and down, so incredibly painful. Can’t use jaw. Can’t eat. Can’t sleep. So much pain. Massaging seems to aggravate. Any other suggestions? 🙏🙏 always grateful
Another fantastic exercise...so grateful doc...u.k ..🦋🌈
Thank you DR . ALLEN FOR great video I had been having BEEN having it had very useful thank u
I need you in my life … for my neck problem pain are you in NJ 🙏🏻
thank you! thank you! thank you!
Thanks man, you helped me a lot
Hi doc my pain seems to come from there. Now when I push on it my neck and nerves start to burn quite badly. Should I just fight through it?
Amazing information! Thank you!
I definitely feel what you are talking about, it is very tender. Is it normal to not necessarily have pain in the shoulders and arms but rather constant spasming in the rear delts and triceps (both arms) mainly when I sit and lay down?
is it possible to treat this by yourself? I have had this problems for year and have spent months trying to floss out my rock hard scalenus muscles. But I just cant seem to be successful.
I have left leg pain and week in anckle please share some excesses and also for back pain
Hi, Dr. Mandell, I am having pain in the front of my upper arms.
Useful video, great 🙏😔✋
⭐😁⭐ hi from Poland....⏳ your canal is the best, Doc.
that's exactly what i needed! THANK U!
This pain is horrible, but the trigger points do provide some relief. But still, sometimes giving up seems easier.
In tear's for 2 day's. Doctor says i need a level 2 fusion. No way I want that...i have hashimoto and I don't want them near my neck . i woke up in serious pain in my neck that is affecting my head..ear and upper back. Thank You for your video's..I'm listening intensely and trying everything you suggest.
how do you find the secondary Trigger points of the Scalenus?
