Another truly amazing video and a valuable asset for the hobby! The only point of departure for me involves the comparison of feeding captive reef fish with the dietary habits of wild specimens. While certain fishes, such as anthias, may require near continuous access to zooplankton (or equivalent) in order to thrive, there is evidence to suggest that many of our aquarium species may not need as many feedings or as much daily intake as we’re often led to believe. Compared to their wild brethren, fish in home aquaria probably spend less time searching for prey, avoiding predators, or swimming against anything approaching the force of actual ocean currents. At the same time, the dry foods that are frequently offered to aquarium fish tend to be calorically dense, similar to pelleted diets used in aquaculture, which are intended to put weight on fish as rapidly as possible. In my experience, microscopic examination of internal organs (e.g., liver and adipose tissue) from healthy captive fish almost invariably demonstrates greater levels of excess energy storage in the form of glycogen and/or lipid (fat) when compared to their wild counterparts. All that being said, overfeeding our fish may offer some behavioral benefits, such as minimizing aggression and potential coral consumption.

Love the new series.. You can never learn too much. I had a quick question - what size Ai grow and Ai glow blades are you guys using? How many are you using? I have a similar size tank at home and am considering upgrading my lighting set up.
Beware I got the tbs package and I had to battle a parasitic amphipod that attached like a tick to my fish (if a tick is the relative size of a raccoon) . I had to keep fish in a picher in the tank and allow the "ticks" to attach then remove them. Be careful they will attach to you too. That said it's great rock.
@@jdamommio okay so I used those 1/2 gallon plastic pitchers. I cut a 3 inch hole in the top. I then used that kitchen mesh stuff you put in the cupboard to stop glasses from slipping like a screen. This kept the chomis in and allowed the amphipod in. If I remember they would attack at night. If I remember they are called cyclopods. They have big black eyes.. and yes they bite. Nothing kills them except smashing them..that's how I found out they bite. Awful things. I still recommend tbs it's great rock and almost necessary for bare bottoms.
Oh and they seem to be toxic or maybe the process is so truamatic that the fish would die (sometimes). Blood loss stress or toxins who can say. It seemed to be the bite because sometimes they would be in the pitcher but not attached. The fish would survive those events 100% but if they were bit 50/50.
Generally speaking, just the water. Which is why it's important to have fresh (Unmixed RODI) water as your top-off. "Salt creep" does take some of the salt out, but i suspect this is generally negligible.

Salt does not evaporate.

I'm curious why they went with dosing as opposed to a calcium reactor?
Guessing the don't want to ph bump down. They want this growing as fast as possible.
Calcium reactor is unnecessary complexity and takes up too much space on a tank this size.
