A few years back I was looking at a property to buy that had 300 tons of chicken manure in the advertisement. After looking over the 280 acres i didn't see the manure so asked the realtor about it. He looked at me all odd and said oh its gone. I asked why was it still in the description of the property and he just gave me the most awkward look for the longest time and never answered my question. Odd fellow...

As someone whos stuck in a HOA and secretly raises quail in the garage I can understand the poop smell issue! I dump mine in the corner of my yard in a wooded area and usually make a poop lasagna compost to reduce smell. Poop, layer of dirt, poop, layer of dirt. Neighbors havent said sh*t yet!

I live in Australia and my technique for chicken manure is, I have a small tractor drawn forage harvester and cut green tall grass from a nearby property. I cut 20 loads and dump them in a single row. I push it up tight so it is as long as the chicken manure that is dropped directly next to it from a large semi walking trailer, 55 cubic metres (about 75 metric tonne). I then cover the grass with the manure, wet it down and leave for about 6 weeks. I get temperatures in the windrow of about 55 to 62 C, that kills all the grass and weed seeds. I then turn every month for another 5 to 6 months. The result is pure compost that is weed free and does not burn plant. I topdress around fruit trees and use it for vegetable garden.

Getting chickens on my plot enabled me to make my own compost..4 years now of not buying any from the shops..
I’m busy digging up the chicken coop that’s about 1.5 years old and seiveing it all…as soil gets dug up the chicken poop goes in there with my plants…so just constantly making compost…
I’d say the chicken poop has a sweet smell so I know it’s good…anyway..WHATS GROWING ON.. I’m in the shed uk …and from your videos I went down the no dig way with woodchip… game changer for me in uk ..

That’s awesome! Our end goal is also to produce our own compost. That will be a game changer and big money saver.

Wow! That is a lot of chiken shi*! I clean my parent's chicken palaces. I usually use only a 5 gallon bucket for a ton of raw material in my compost. Wear a mask! My dad has lung disease from cleaning his grandmothers chicken coop ( as a kid in the 70s). Here I am in my 40s cleaning his chicken coops. The perks are eggs and manure.

Wow.....great work Pete from you and your coworkers! I"m in the local area (Tarpon Springs) and have seen you at Jim's few times, but never said hello b/c you were working or filming. I'll try to introduce myself the next time if you have a free moment. Excited to see your progress here, although some see it as a negative w/ changing/transforming the land. At the end of the day, you are doing something great for the community and never let the naysayers stop you from your dreams! Good luck my friend!!!

Yup! It was a great deal. I’m currently freezing scrap fish from my fishing trips. Once we get enough I’ll make my own fish emulsion. I’ve purchased it also and know it’s quite expensive.
