The SWAT guys going into a room immediately after a Flashbang has been deployed and being unaffected isn't a bug but a real-life tactic. Stun grenades really aren't that bad if you've got protection on. The British SAS, for example, actually follow a Flashbang into a room and with a good entry the team will be through the door before the grenade even hits the floor. The gas masks have built-in lens filters so that the flash doesn't affect the user.
I bet a lot of the effect is from the surprise factor. Think how much you jump out of your skin if something goes bump unexpectedly. If a much louder, distressing flashbang went off and I wasn't prepared I bet i would freak out and mess up whatever I was doing. These officers are highly disciplined and have probably experienced these things going off nearby. Combined with protective equipment i can see how they can use one without really slowing down at all
I got this game for Christmas in 99. I was 13. Probably spent a couple thousand hours playing this game over the years. Even picked it up on GOG because I still like to play it from time to time. This game was well made by a great team of developers.

I always imagine a conversation between SWAT 3 members joking: - Hey man, what if I told you that in the future our guns will need to be replaced with funfair shotguns and paintball weapons to get our best performance and avoid "unauthorized use of lethal force". - i would tell you that you should stop smelling the cocaine we seize during our missions.
@@Adri9570 but SWAT 3 never got that less lethal approach, in some ways it feels more like R6 3 than a SWAT based game. I know that abusing of pepperball guns and less than lethal shotguns it's bullshit but shotting every suspect and getting away with it isn't the solution. I love both games tho.
@@EFdee9 Yep. The non lethal guns made it to be an interesting challenge. The problem is, as far as I'm concerned, that only non lethal guns made you so vulnerable that they made it lose the realism. Nowadays the tendency is to avoid unnecesary risks. SWAT 3 creators at least tried to learn about real SWAT but the SWAT 4 brought the risky approach to another level. PD: Rainbow Six 3 nostalgia kicked in 😌
@@Adri9570 That was probably my biggest problem with SWAT 4. The less-than-lethal weapons were far too effective against suspects armed with full auto AK-47's and body armor.
@@8166PC1 Yeah, but there are still enemies with gas masks, which are not effected by the pepperball gun itself. Also the pepperball gun is not too effective at disarming suspects as a less than lethal shotgun, so i prefer the 2nd option. At the same time you can run out of ammo during hardest missions if you are armed with LL shotgun, so there are some counterpoints against all of that. Actually pacifist options make the game even more interesting to master, but this scoring system is absurd either way. Also i don't like how the friendly AI is too friendly by default and you can't switch assault modes from stealth to dynamic, which was extremely useful in SWAT 3. Actually SWAT 3 friendly AI is much better, especially at peeking corners and coordinating their movements.
Amazing review and thanks for all the information on how to get it running on current operating systems. I will try it out tomorrow, I hope all goes well, I really want to replay this. :D
Good review. Me and a few friends have been playing this every day for the last few months and we all agree: this is, even after 18 years, the best tactical FPS in existence. From the AI, to the need to be precise in movement and shooting and the necessity of teamwork, it hasn't seen its match yet. There are a tonne of community maps available to keep it fresh as well. We'd love to invite you for a few MP sessions, hit me up!
So my experience with this franchise was exclusive to SWAT4 and I've been playing it for a long time and its one of my top 5. I was discussing tactical shooters in the Ready or Not discord after catching this video and a few people said 3 was the definitive. Bought it last night and did all the dgvoodoo stuff and noticed the game files from gog already have a few mods and missions in zip files and can be unpacked right off the rip. I'm excited to get some missions in, thank you for this video!
This is a very nostalgic game, i remember being so amazed by the difficult and yet unpredictable AI and building structure, not surprisingly because i was a kid and 3D games just became a steady norm in 1999, still i was so addicted to this game, just by the different guns, and voice acting, and the ability to select missions, like my favorite was the hospitals nurse that welcomed me with an uzi or a Mac-10 into the face when i was lockpicking at the entrance, this game is intense this game is immersive this game is fun. so much so that i the only level that i liked in Counter Strike was the Office, because of Swat 3. Edit: i left a comment on your last video (by this time it's Crysis 1), where i said that you may like Jagged Alliance 2, yes now i'm pretty sure you will absolutely love Jagged Alliance 2, or i really really want you to like it.

That cursor problem you mentioned seems like it could be fixed by enabling Capture Mouse in the dgVoodoo2 setup .exe. That's not really a good case to say that they're both the same. Unless commanded, there wasn't any way for them to safely engage through a fatal funnel, especially when that one swat member was shot just as half of his body was exposed. Honestly sounds like you never played Swat 3 at all. Swat 3's ai will cover most corners without needing to be commanded, shoot through walls/doors, will cuff any suspect or hostage without being told when it's safe, and almost never hesitate to shoot. Swat 4's ai will perform very decent when commanded well, but doesn't do either of these and can't stand on their own. Sorry, I just love Swat 3's ai so much that I felt I was blasphemed. D:

The very concept of nuclear abolition is so completely laughable that I have no words to describe my contempt for it.
Calling it a peace day is even worse because even if you granted the premise that atomics could and would be eliminated from every country that possessed them you’d soon see the return of world scale conventional warfare because the barrier of mutually assured destruction has been removed.
In totality, nukes have saved infinitely more lives than they’ve ever taken.
So, Hans... are we the baddies?
SWAT 3 or 4?? = AUTO LIKE
11:37 Was that Joe Biden?
Who else thinks that the element leader sounds like Homer Simpson?
I’m sure this game is great but games like the original R6’s and GR games where you have no view model for the weapons just bug me so fucking much to the point where I can’t play them luckily R6 ravenshield and swat 4 I can play but I don’t think there’s been a good GR game with a view model for the weapons
in the console, use type (without the quotes) "-handsup" to see your weapon.
I just realized is boss in swat 4 the boss from swat 4?
Lol he called the M1911 the "M-one-nine-eleven" - it's the "M-nineteen-eleven" ya philistine
I ran the biggest and longest lasting clan in this game called Special Operations Team or {*:SØT:*} I am Dbl:Tap the founder

its_ogrelord 4:30 good example the ai is not better. They are both the same.
