Just came across this video. All I can say is "WOW"! As others have said, I don't know if I would do all that. I have a small 5th wheel (29') but was thinking on downsizing so I can camp in more remote places (like Slim Potatohead). Only thing stopping me on a A Frame purchase is that almost every one I look at or view on RUclips has a lot of water damage. Even new ones don't seem to be very well constructed against water infiltration. Seems like, if I really want one, I have to do like you and take it apart and put it back together making sure it's sealed up properly. Anyway, just wanted to say that your build was very enjoyable to watch and I was very impressed with your craftsmanship. Cheers!!
A frame camper do have their share of unique problems you have to deal with. No bad but their need a little more attention and care that a traditional camper. Thanks for the kind words and hope you find one like.
Fabulous job and you have the most unique camper in the campground! Love the exterior paint scheme. I hope to see you around the campground or at one of the rallies! - Aliner Ranger 12
Love what you guys did, I’m actually doing the same project restoration with my wife just had a question, What did you guys use to cover the hinge and seal that seam? Thanks
This is awesome well done! How did you find how to pull it apart? Was there a manual or did you do it yourself? I'm about to restore an Aliner and I would love some tips on how you restored the floor and the back corners 😊
We did not have a plan or book. We just paid attention as we were taking it apart and replaced everything back to original the best we could. I rebuilt all the sides and replaced all the wood. Just take your time and you will do fine.
Love this! Your video inspired us to fix up our chalet with a similar paint job and I was wondering a. What brand of paint and color is that? B. Where did you get the vinyl decals? Thanks so much!
Congrats on fixing up your camper. The exterior paint is called Grizzly Grip (Fine) texture Gem Green on the bottom and Snow White on the top. We purchased from Midwest Chemicals online. My wife has a vinyl machine so we did some of the decals ourselves. I do think you can purchase decals directly from the manufacture. Good luck on your renovations and happy camping.
Hey!!! This is an impressive remodeling job. I recently bought the same camper and am attempting to remodel it as well! Where did you get the chalet vinyl?
Amazing job! I just bought a 2003 in bad condition. It has the most horrible mold/mildew smell. Did yours have any of that smell at all due to the prior leaks and damage?
Thank you for posting this looks fantastic! Just about to start a restoration on an 05 A-liner that had rear corner/water damage, curious what cloth material you used that joins the roof to the body, noticed a tear on one side when i started taking mine apart. thank you
Wow! Great job!! We have a 1971 Apline Aliner that we are looking to restore; I have had such a hard time finding any information on how to restore. I found your pics and progress amazing!! Will be uploading our videos of progress as well but just curious, (hope I am not offending!) do you know how much approximately your restoration cost? And did you need to order replacement parts that you didn't make yourself? Thanks so much for your video!!!
Honestly I am not sure. This took a few months to complete and I didn't keep track of everything. I am guessing a couple thousand plus the cost of the camper itself. We did order a few replacement parts from the manufacturer like hinges and trim but the rest we purchased from the local hardware store. We tried to reuse as much as possible but there wasn't much left to work with.
Seems like its faster to skip the "Buy an old camper" step and just build fresh on a new frame. Here's how they are built at the factory. ruclips.net/video/SnzqH7sGkx4/видео.html
We are restoring the exact same trailer. I also have a vinyl cutter and plan to do my own logos. Having a really hard time finding a decent version online. Ours is peeling so badly my software can’t find the edges. Please let me know if there is any way you would be willing to share your image file. Thanks- same fabric on the cushions, same broken rear corner... it’s uncanny how our “slight damage” is similar to yours.
That's so cool you have the same trailer. Unfortunately we do not have the files for the decals. The computer we have them on crashed. Best of luck to you on your rebuild.
Wow! Impressive. I thought we did a lot of work after buying a '95 Chalet and replacing the floor. We have had 6 years of use so far and now have to replace the bungees. Did you use a wind harness or bungee?
Just ran across your video. Am especially interested in rebuilding the roof panels as we have delamination problems on the front. Did you laminate the 5ml plywood to the filon exterior sheeting, or did you completely rebuild interior, exterior, and foam core?
I found one on FB market place 200 miles away so I decided to do a little research. This video was the first thing to pop up (no pun intended). You did an excellent job but this convinced me to pass. I can build one easier.
I wished I had saw something like this before I bought mine. Way too much work than I wanted but I gained a ton of knowledge. Most I didn't know I could learn lol. Glad I could help!
Certainly. For the wood portion I just used luann or 5.5mm plywood. Also paneling would work. Try to find the right thickness of the wood you are replacing.
@@ErnestColeFishing 1. What did you use to apply the Grizzly Grip? 2. Did the paint job hold up? 3. What did you use to paint the tongue/chassis? Ours has rust spots and flaking paint.
I believe we just used a small roller to apply the grizzly grip. We know the folks we sold the camper to and it is still holding up good. We painted the chassis with spray paint. Nothing special. We do not salt our roads down here to run isn’t that much of a problem
@@ErnestColeFishing Thanks so much. I think it was in Minnesota originally but in NC we shouldn't have a problem with salt either. I see you are near Memphis...that's where I grew up!
Oh, don't it look preurdy. Sure hope you got it for nothing. Just as well you have a BIG garage and the know-how and equipment to achieve. Have to admire a talented man’s quality workmanship! And you are talented. Plus you had work space and tools to do a great job👍
Thanks so much. We are really enjoying it.
Nice work. I admire your determination.
Thank you. It was a labor of love. Emphasis on labor lol.
I need to do the same. I have a 1993 with a lot of damage.
That is beautiful and amazing! Awesome work!
Thanks so much.
Hi
You did a great job . The trailer looks
Better now then when it was new
Nice work it was all worth the work
You should be proud
Thank you so much 😀
Wow it’s amazingly beautiful. Cat was def the best part. I bet you could build one from scratch after all that!
Right?!
So, basically, you built a camper from scratch. Amazing!
Yeah basically. It was a labor of love. Emphasis on labor. lol
What a job! You did fantastic--you should be so proud! I wouldn't even know where to begin.
Thanks. It took a while to decide on a starting point. lol
Amazing! I'm afraid I would have just scrapped it and bought a better one!! Kudos!!
Great work .
Many thanks for this video .
We are restoring one , and this helped .
Thanks so much. Glad this was helpful.
Wow. Fantastic rebuild and decorating. Your cat is so cute.
Thanks. Daisy definitely rules the house.
We have an Aliner and we have some problems wood rot in the rear but after your video I think , we'll fix it , thank you
So glad this was helpful. Good luck on your repairs.

I have seen this little gem on a Facebook page I follow. It's pretty cool to see how it came to be.
Mitch Bookey thanks so much. We are actually headed out today for our first trip of the season.
Ernest Cole do you have a special destination? We just bought our first a frame and haven't even got it home yet
No where special. We just got back from a local spot about an hour from home. It was a great weekend. Hope you enjoy yours as well.
Ernest Cole I literally was camping in my driveway.lol
GREAT JOB
James Alfiero thanks.
goodjob took some time i bet but hell nothing better than making it how yiu want it
Exactly. I now have a brand new camper lol.
I know y’all will enjoy for a long time.
Wow...how did you even know where to start?
LOL. We took lots and lots of pictures from the start. And we labelled everything as we were dismantling it.
I have been waiting for your video for 6 months. This is amazing. I just bought the same camper and have lots of questions if you don't mind
Zachary Hazelhurst we would be happy to help. Just message me your contact info. Wow. Thanks for being patient.

love it!
Thanks
Love what you guys did, I’m actually doing the same project restoration with my wife just had a question, What did you guys use to cover the hinge and seal that seam? Thanks
Thanks so much. For the hinge we used a strip of vinyl to cover the hinge.
That’s an amazing rebuilt. Did you rebuild the roof panels and side walls too? Any chance you could share with me how you made the roof panels?

Thanks for checking out my vid. There was a cloth backed piece of leather type material on ours originally, so we went with the same material.
Ernest Cole, thank you think I have used something like that to recover motorcycle seats
Wow Amazing, what kind of Air conditioner did you put in. I just bought a 98 and am trying to find one to fit
Not sure of the size. There was a small on already in it that still worked and I reinstalled that one.

If you want to repair an old camper, that is exactly how you have to do it. Tear it down to the frame and build a new camper on top.
