- One of the greater perks of PS5 and Xbox Series X/S coming up is that it's becoming a trend amongst publishers and developers to offer free upgrades for their current, or upcoming games. So luckily, you can buy something today on PS4, and know you'll be entitled to the PS5 version whenever you're ready to buy! Our list of free upgrades has grown to a size-able amount, so here's a recap of all the games we know of so far. In fairness, not all of them are 100% free, and some of them have specific requirements or omissions, but that's why he have this list here. Also, we have a quick talk about how the upgrades will actually look on PlayStation 5 vs. Microsofts Smart Delivery program. I can't think of anything funny to end off the description here like I normally try to. So I'll just say this: I'm tired and want to sleep.

@@LoboTechShorts 30 FPS unfortunately broke The Witcher 3 for me. I knew it was an amazing game but because I didn’t have access to a PC that played it at 60 FPS it wasn’t that immersive like Skyrim or Fallout or The Outer Worlds especially in Novigrad where it dipped to 20 FPS. If I now can play The Witcher at 1080p with 60 FPS or maybe even 4K 60 FPS than it will go from a good game to an amazing game for me. Frame rate even if people aren’t willing to admit it, can make or break a game. I’d even bet that BloodBorne being 30 FPS is why it didn’t win GOTY over TW3 in 2015.

@@sergio_ce I know but still, a buggy game or a game that doesn’t run as smooth isn’t as good as a game that does run smooth gameplay-wise. If that was the case then most devs wouldn’t try to hit that crisp 60 FPS. Bloodborne felt choppy at times which hindered the experience just a lil bit. I might have exaggerated the GOTY thing but who knows?

I'm really happy about it, I just recently bought it and played for the first time and I was having a tough time enjoying it because of it feeling a bit dated. So I'm looking forward to trying on next gen.

This adds the PS5 features along like ray tracing and Dualsense stuff with the dlc and newer content than the original game had . Just the same way why people didn't say anything about Last of Us, Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed 3 and Rogue , Crysis, Uncharted 1 2 3, and more . Those you don't get for free . Those have better versions of graphics than the original did . Upgrades just have more frames per second added and 4k modes
I was looking forward to playing Control on next gen. After sales, I spent $55 on all of that game’s content, and now people who spend $45 can get the game with all of the game’s content plus a free upgrade. One of the most anti-consumer things I have ever seen.

You don't have to buy and install the upgrades to play your PS4 games on PS5. You can just play the games in their native PS4 versions trough backwards compatibility if you want to

well actually most these upgrades will only be applied to current-gen games (and very few next-gen) and I believe that when the second round of game come rolling in next year this whole system will be eradicated, at least for sony

I wasn't able to continue playing the Witcher 3 due to long ass load time. It will be the first game I play when I get a PS5.

I loved the Witcher 3 but I couldn’t get myself to play it all that much due to load times as well. I did come back for. Way later and finally finished it but I still have a lot of side quests to do. It will be highly motivating to play it on ps5 and continue where I left off
i play it on switch.. i dubt i would be in the mood for playing it on next gen...

VancouverCanucksRock I’m gonna have to disagree with you. Now if you already have the Hitman 3 disc in your hands, then I’ll agree with you. But Hitman doesn’t come out until January 2021, so if you preordered the disc version, then just cancel the preorder and switch to a digital copy, you lose no money. Now Control came out in 2019, people have that game already and all the DLC. But if they want the PS5 version, then they have to pay for it all over again.

Not yet, most likely they are still working on the upgrade
However, FF7 remake will greatly benefit from the PS5 hardware by default because of it's dynamic resolution that will stick to higher nnumber and the really fast ssd that will greatly reduce texture pop in.

Just buy the PS4 versions. There will only be a few PS5 only launch titles better off waiting.
Because Microsoft gets it, if I purchase a copy of the game I should be able to play it on whatever Sony platform I own, if a copy of that game for that platform exists
This is the hypocrisy of the game companies. Years ago when it suited them they complain that you only own a license to a game and that the physical copy is not your property. Now it suits them to say no you have to buy a separate copy for every platform even though you already own a license to the same game.
For a practical reason, some households have multiple game players with multiple consoles, so somebody else is playing the PS5 version on the PS5 in my house right now, having a PS4 version would allow me to play as well. Or perhaps my PS5 dies or I sell it because it sucks or whatever the reason, I should still have a copy of the game I can play on Sony's platform. Microsoft gets this, and I've been a Sony only guy forever. This is just nickel-and-dime bulshit they're pulling which makes it terribly confusing for everybody so they can make a few more dollars.

Great video, thank you! Has it been confirmed as to how we will be able transfer PS4 save game data to the PS5?
I'm sure you know by now buy you'll need the cloud to do so on the free PS5 upgrade games. the rest work just fine by connecting both the Ps4 and PS5 through the same wifi network, works faster via Lan cable. basically you just choose what data and games you want transferred and it'll just send it over from one console to the other. there are some that still have problems. I just got the PS5 and transferred Fuser from 4 to 5. but even after transferring the dlc to it, it wouldn't work. Games with free upgrades like Miles Morales and Sackboy will let you upgrade on the game screen, but to transfer data such as saved games you will need the cloud. basically go to the game and go into the settings or the saved file screen (depends on the game) and upload to the cloud from there. then head over to the ps5 and download them from the game as well.

@Megatron EX1127 I would also assume that I could just use a hard drive if my ssd runs out of space. I think I am going to finish my current ps4 games and maybe play some that I don't already have. I'll wait a few years for sales and see if there are any hardware issues that need to be fixed. Maybe by then, they will have a slim model out which is the ps4 I have.

I can't believe that Spider-man turned out to be literally the worst example on the entire list.
Sony is trying to pull that remaster ps3-ps4 crap all over again. The difference is that now a resolution and framerate bump costs them almost nothing to do, since both ps4 and ps5 are x86
@Nidokly i know, I just think the simple resolution and framerate bump should be free for everyone who jumps in for ps5 and already own the game. Then Insomniac could charge, I dont know, 10 dollars, 20 dollars, for the upgrade to the full fledged raytracing remaster for people who want it. Everyone is happy

@@MisterDrumsNoob You can play the Spider Man Ps4 (the non remaster) and still get the frame boost, but you’re missing out on the rest of the upgrades.
@@yoda9256 the ps4 spider man is capped at 30fps, and it is very stable. The game will not magically jump to 60fps, unless it is patched to do so. So there will be a negligible framerate boost, if any boost at all, in this way.

Just a question. All the games mentioned in this video are getting boosted upgrades to PS5. But the PS5 is also backwards compatible so you should be able to just load your PS4 discs on a PS5 or download your digital PS4 games from the PS Store onto your PS5. Is this right?

@@awnelajou1563 No, only if the devs go and patch that themselves. The games will just run at their PS4 levels unless devs optimize. Games with unlocked FPS will obviously run better due to PS5 Boost Mode
The fact that this is a conversation and people are grateful proves everyone is a corporate slave. Like people were actually willing to buy it twice until they learned otherwise. This is why I will do 90% of my gaming on PC for the rest of my life because free remasters and unlimited backwards compatibility with every PC game ever.

For both Spider-man 2018 and Miles Morales, you can actually upload your PS4 save data and download onto the PS5. Did this myself and the trophies did show up on my PS5
I keep seeing all the next gen games being ‘4k 60 FPS’ and all I really want is 1080p 100+ FPS am I alone in this? I’m just hoping these games have a way to bump the resolution down just get the FPS up lol.excited tho for a lot of these games
Depending on the game I prefer better visuals as long as the fps is good enough so that it doesn't stutter all the time

I'm sire if you bought the disc ps5 console you can still easily download all the digital games you bought on ya ps4 from the library once you've signed into your new ps5 retrieving your gamerscore trophy's too :)
The PS5 with disc is literally a digital only version with an added disc drive. Your entire library of digital games should work just fine.

Upgrading the Disc PS4 games seems a tad more complicated. I'll get the PS4 games digitally instead, or just get them natively on PS5.
I'm disappointed that we aren't getting a free upgrade for both Dangerous Driving/DD 2 and Cris Tales.
just buy the cheaper PS4 disc and upgrade free to the native PS5 digital version

For most people i would recommend the digital way but your statement "its complicated" is bs.
The Ps4 Dics on your Ps4 are just used as authentification.
The same goes for Ps5.
You take the Ps4 disc, put it into the Ps5, download the Ps5 game, thats it. Ofcourse, like on PS4, the CD has to be inside of the PS5 while playing. Otherwise it would be "stealing", you could just get a CD from a friend, download the game and give the CD back...

Really useful video. So I guess the thing to do in pretty much all cases is buy the game on PS4 at a cheaper price, then upgrade to PS5. Plus you then have the ability to play all of those games on PS4 if, for some reason, you want to do that at a later date.

i'm more concerned about save games after the upgrade.
The 2 tb hard drive should come with up with the upcoming generations of the PS5 and Xbox series knowing how powerful it is.

@@Swift19850 I think he meant that after the upgrade you may not have your saved data on ps5 or be able to download it.
All progress on games are linked to your playstation account so if you sign in to it on the ps5 you get your progress (I'm pretty sure that's how free upgrades work too)

I think the fact that it isn't included in the PS Plus Collection means there's a very good chance that is happening. I wouldn't be surprised to see it bundled in whatever Forbidden West's inevitable Ultimate Edition is.
This whole video just makes me want to say Bravo to Xbox for putting the effort in to develop a system that was far more consumer-friendly both in terms of application and Financial savings. Setting up a system where are you only have to have one disc that'll work on all platforms is the smartest thing I've heard come out of this generation of consoles. This is coming from a guy who's only owned and played Sony and never had the slightest interest in buying an Xbox.
