Like the explanation that the M15S doesn't make too much of a difference from the M11 Plus on IEM'S since I have a M11 Plus Ltd. Good job Dave. Well detailed review as usual!!
I wish an actual audiophile like yourself would do an in-depth review of the imported uncapped Sony ZX707 DAP. Would be interested to hear your thoughts about that DAP and how it compares to other DAPs.
Ik it doesn't matter as much for devices like this, but idk how you can charge $1000 for a brand new DAP and have Android 10 as the OS. The recent Hiiby releases seem much more compelling based off that alone
HiBy's new R6 Pro II and Sony's ZX707 both come with Snapdragon 665 and Android 12. They're both $250 less expensive than this FiiO too. The Japanese import, uncapped Sony ZX707 is actually the cheapest and can be had for under $700 on sale. It's in my opinion, the best mid-tier DAP available right now. HiBy R6 Pro II is a close 2nd.
IT’S. NOT. A. PHONE. Seriously, would you be making the same complaint if it used a custom OS and did not support any 3rd Party apps at all? Also - what AUDIO apps do you need to use on it that don’t support Android 10? The most important question is - how does it sound?
...One of the most stupid, and moreover, pretentious questions is the claims about the DAP version of android! DAP must sound! And do not boast of the version of Android. For example, TempoTec V6, one of the best-sounding modern low-cost players, uses a deeply customized version of Android 8.1 in general.
Hallo Gizaudio thanks for the video 😊, but i have one question. I have the Og m11 with 2 sdcards and only listen to the pure music mode. I don't care for the newer andriod or the new snapdragon. Would this be a good upgrade for only the sound? I use iems and a denon 7200 + Sundara on 4.4mm (550mw) Thank you, have a good weekend 😊
Hi, maybe you can settle something. While using planar headphones, I always heard, "Oh, planars might run ok on lesser devices, but to get the most out of them, give them more juice/current" So, going by that, I use Super High Gain with this DAP. Now, after speaking to people in forums, they say, "Use medium or high gain and just raise the volume, and if it's loud enough without going over 80/90%, then that's best" So, which is it lol Lower gain but more volume? Or the highest gain and less volume? Thanks
Upping the gain usually introduces distortion. Sometimes distortion is good and some audeze headphone benefit from additional current. I would say up the gain if you still have a black enough background.

Thanks fkr the review! Buying the m11 plus or m15s and only use IEMs, what should i do? I am afraid that id get the m11 plus and be too curious about the m15s gains, but if not material then i wont buy
@@Gizaudio hi! Once again, great review. I have mid-tier IEMs and might go back to the flagships again so I wanted some space. I bought the M15s regardless and love its form factor (buttons, layout, volume, case, etc .) Much more than the M11 plus.
Was ready to buy until I saw ANDROID 10 when we are already on android 14 almost 15 meaning many apps wont be supported in a couple of new android versions. Also heating issues its a problem.
@@GHOSTSTARSCREAMM Simple, the difference in performance between the NW-zx707 and the NW-wm1am2 is unbelievable. The 707 runs android 13 and the am2 runs android 10 that lags like crazy and the optimization is atrocious.
Greetings from Germany nice review 👍🏾👍🏾 I need a help I wanted to buy audio player but I don't know which one to buy, which one is better FIIO M15S FIIO M17 OR CAYIN N7? THANKS A LOT
They are not giving these away. Pretty steep at $1400cdn with an old snapdragon cpu and old Android 10. I'm sure the amplifier/dac is up to date though.
Many thanks for your review, especially in relation to M11Plus ESS. I own the latter but have been toying the idea whether I should trade in to upgrade 😅
I had a Hiby r6 2020 and compared to the fiio m11 plus ess it sounded -edit- Fiio really are a standout manufacturer. Edit: not like a big enough upgrade from my apple dongle for the price.
I was confused when I wanted to get myself a good mid tier dap. Came down to the m11 plus ess and the hiby r6. Went on to get the m11 plus ess since it was significantly cheaper and had the thx amp. Since you have experience with both, I'm curious to know what you like about the m11 over the r6.
@@josephnevin The m11 battery is much, much better it’s not even in the same league. And the overall sound, and build. It’s bigger, heavier, but the sound is much more balanced and i don’t have to worry about the battery at all, also the leather case that came with it is good enough for me. I only had the r6 for a few days, but to me it was seriously lacking in the low end, unless I pumped the volume up to levels that left my hearing muffled. It sounded very similar to my apple dongle at a volume I’d normally listen to, which isn’t bad… i just don’t think it’s worth the cost, the volume wheel felt a little bit, cheap. I honestly thought it was defective, but the place that sold it to me said that’s how it’s supposed to sound. Kick drums just lacked presence, baselines in some electronic music I like just were missing detail I could hear in my btr5. The shop blamed my headphones… I tried 4 different sets lol. I honestly didn’t think the difference would have been this much. But the m11 plus does everything the r6 can do but better and for longer.
Strongly suggest not buying the M15S ... after a few weeks the device WILL NOT output from the AUX ports... device picks up that headphones are plugged in but no audio output from any port. Contact FiiO and they say "send a near £1000 device to china"... cos your likely to see that again...
Does anyone know of a fiio dap that 1) Lets you send songs from your phone to the dap via BT 2)Has sound like the cowon plenue range 3) 3.5mm jack 4) Good battery life and 5) sd card support please??
Old Tech!!! 😆 FiiO has been going downhill since the M11s and now this. It’s almost like they’re going backwards compared to the other companies like Hiby who is bringing out new tech with Android 12 and 1080p screens etc…
Android 11 and onwards have reduced physical pin head phones output by 50% and only works fully on BT head phones... if you want only BT GO ANDROID 11 + if you want to use your expensive wired headphones... android 10
Fine review but very annoying repetitive background music which serves no purpose whatsoever and makes concentrating on your rather technical information more difficult. If your content and delivery are good, no need for cheesy music scoring. Thanks!
I need a magical cabinet drawer thing like dave's

It's stable & streams music well. Why waste money upgrading the part that doesn't influence sound?

How’s the volume knob? Does it offer some resistance?
Is there a usb output on this device? Thanks
