BMW = Bring More Wampum (native American money ) In New York, wampum beads have been discovered dating before 1510. Before European contact, strings of wampum were used for storytelling, ceremonial gifts, and recording important treaties and historical events, such as the Two Row Wampum Treaty, and the Hiawatha Belt. Wampum was also used by the northeastern Indigenous tribes as a means of exchange, strung together in lengths for convenience. The first colonists understood it as a currency and adopted it as such in trading with them. Eventually, the colonists applied their technologies to more efficiently produce wampum, which caused inflation and ultimately its obsolescence as currency.

The real test for EVs will be repeat buying. Most people I know who have EVs love them for superficial reasons. Mainly boosting their egos. However the repair costs, rapid depreciation (when compared to icevs) and insurance issues pop up, most people are going to buy something that guzzles gas out of pure contempt. Thats my theory.
I owned a car with a turbo charger, when the turbo went out, the car couldn't get out of it's own way. It cost too much to repair so I got rid of it. Lesson learned.
Most Ford and Toyo hybrids put the batteries in a well in the trunk. Also most hybrids have 2kw to 20kw packs. Many BEVs have 80 to 100kw and they're mounted low under the car, somewhat exposed to road debris and salts. I haven't heard of many Leafs s'ploding so maybe you have something there. Like the Pinto tank. It was the same as the 68/69 Mustang and 70Maverick tank....but a hatchback put it too close to the rear crush zone. Location Location Location.
@@STho205 Those are good observations, but a flooded car (with salt water) will have the battery submerged no matter what the make or model. Research has shown that EV fires are much more rare compared to gasoline fires in ICE vehicles. And yes, gasoline is also toxic and explosive. Almost any fuel with a high energy density is bound to be.
@@hockeyguy820 When you gas car catches on fire, the power allows you to unlock the doors and escape. EV's cook you alive if you lose power because you can't get out.
lol, as opposed to the explosive power of gasoline? Between a battery fire and a gasoline fire, I'll take the battery every time. You can walk away from a battery fire, you won't be walking away from a gasoline one. "A recent study using data from the NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board) showed that electric cars in the US caught fire at a rate of 25.1 per 100,000 sales compared to 1,530 for ICE vehicles and 3,475 for hybrids."

Salt water. Temperature changes expanding the internals. Supreme cold weather. Bumps on the road. There’s many things that can go wrong with electric battery vehicles.
Hey, Scottie, do you think that because some of these vehicles catch fire at some rate--what ever it is--that it reflects the overall reliability of the vehicle? Do you really think it impinges on a potential buyer's decision making process... Or is that the point?
@@timtoolman9940 yes Lithium is part of the alkali earth elements that oxidize very easily, that is release an electron with very little effort. Maybe that is why its a good element for batteries. I hear you about the Nissan's. I almost bought the most beautiful Marano for my wife until I found out about the CVT transmission. This was when they first came out in 05. And the Infinity came the same way. My only experience with CVT's was snowmobiles and I couldn't get out of there fast enough. We had nothing but problems with them and they were bragging about it. These people were crazy. I literally ran across the street and bought her a new New Jeep Liberty instead. That Mercedes/ Jeep went for 15 years without a single problem. That Marano would have been shot in 3 with that transmission. Not a chance. As I found out later, those CVT's, at 20,000 miles, are already too far gone to save. 20k! Nissan! The only transmission I'm aware of that has a tiny oil filter in it that's NOT serviceable. Really. And it's so tiny it plugs right up and stops filtering the transmission oil at all. I saw one of those get tore down on RUclips with 20k on it and it's true. The Tranny was already acting up so they tore it apart. Then they got rid of the Nissan. What junk! They got their money back because they sued the dealer. They happen to be a reputable shop and Nissan didn't have a chance, or a clue in court. Of course they didn't. Did I dodge the bullet on that or what? What a shame too. A really beautiful truck. The sexiest thing out there and the most beautiful butt in the biz. I thought it was going to be my very first Japanese car. I was wrong. Mercedes buying out Dodge gave them some excellent cars long enough for me to get my hands on a few. Even my 2018 Dodge Charger is still a Mercedes E class. Probably the last Dodge /Chrysler I'll ever own.

Good one phrase!
BMW = Bring More Wampum (native American money )
In New York, wampum beads have been discovered dating before 1510.

Why aren't we hearing about fires in Toyota hybrids. What's the deal? Tesla quality issues?
Most Ford and Toyo hybrids put the batteries in a well in the trunk. Also most hybrids have 2kw to 20kw packs. Many BEVs have 80 to 100kw and they're mounted low under the car, somewhat exposed to road debris and salts. I haven't heard of many Leafs s'ploding so maybe you have something there.
Like the Pinto tank. It was the same as the 68/69 Mustang and 70Maverick tank....but a hatchback put it too close to the rear crush zone.

@@STho205 Those are good observations, but a flooded car (with salt water) will have the battery submerged no matter what the make or model. Lithium reacts explosively with water so when it burns you need to use a different suppressant.
Even fresh water? If rain lights them up they cant be piled up in landfills.
