    Also when working in extreme cold conditions, after taking the tripod out of a warm vehicle and after you level the instrument, put snow at the base of each leg. This will prevent the instrument from settling due to the temperature change between the feet and the soil. Warm metal will thaw cold soil due to the difference of temp between the feet and soil.

    Luke, he used the leveling screws correctly. He is saying not to turn the leveling screws the same way at the same time. Like if your going clockwise on one screw, do not go clockwise on the other one. You would go clockwise on one and counter clockwise on the other. Watch his hands when he levels it up you'll see that on one screw he was going clockwise and other one he was going counter clockwise.

    Just curious how you would do elevation over long distances, like a mile, since a laser or sight level would not account for the curvature of earth, but a water level would, assuming no geomagnetic or gravimetric anomalies close by...

  • @Festerbestertester6
    @Festerbestertester6 6 лет назад +3

    This is an "automatic" level - meaning it contains an additional internal leveling mechanism that makes use of gravity for fine adjustment. I don't think the video mentions that. But when buying a level, it's important to get an automatic one for the best accuracy. So here we actually see 4 leveling mechanisms at work: the tripod legs, the dome adjustment at the top of the tripod, the three legs at the bottom of the level, and finally the internal gravity-based automatic adjuster.

    • @MelomaniaDJs
      @MelomaniaDJs 5 лет назад +2

      You mean it's collaborated to the horizontal 'level' axis. Nothing to do with the word 'gravity'. Why have you had the urge to add this fictisious assumption??

      +Poeticriffraff It is just how we do it...has shown to be more accurate over time and since you keep it set up while you shoot all your ties you don't have to fidget with it; it stays firmly in place. Then you pull it out and go to the second back site when you are done with your first ties.
