Nice tutorial on tape deck hook-ups. I got a Teac X-3 open reel deck in 1982 and already had a Pioneer RG-2 expander (1981) so I connected the X-3 to the RG-2 and had this combo on tape monitor one of my receiver. I like the expander as it cuts tape hiss and provides a wider dynamic range for the tape format. It sounds boss. Receiver tape monitor two has an ADC Sound Shaper Two IC equalizer with two cassette decks attached (the EQ has bidirectional dubbing). As the receiver also has bidirectional dubbing, this gives me good flexibility for recording/copying tapes, both open reel and cassette. Surprising how many people don't know how to do component connections. Atta boy Andrew. .
Andrew, such a good advice, please make two words in each film in which you rate a given receiver or loudspeakers as you rate the sound of a given device on a scale of 1 to 10 and you should always remember about doing it! By the way, you should make a separate video with your opinion after all your years in audio what you think are the top 5 recivers, amplifiers and speakers in 500,1000,1500 euro and above price range!!!!
Most components from the mid 1970's to mid 1980's provided DIN sockets for simpler connections of associated gear helping to avoid the "jungle" of cables. Good point.
You possibly should also pay at least a little bit of Attention to the Input / Output-Impedances of the Reel to Reel Deck and the Amplifier. In the 70s the Output-Impedances were sometimes higher than they nowadays are... A higher Output-Impedance of the Reel to Reel Deck, usually will need an higher Input-Impedance of the Amplifier to (usually) sound best. _Ideally_ the Input-Impedance should be at least about 10 Times the Output-Impedance...
I am very new with the reel to reel…my modern receiver has 3 separate line ins…I have a teac 4010s R2r…do I connect rca cables from my line in on the receiver to line out on the reel to reel?
i have a sony tc377 reel to reel ,connected to a Auna amplifier to the record RCA phono sockets ,and my Laptop to the Aux also on the amplifier ,but does not record from my Laptop to the Reel to Reel from the Reel to Reel am using a 5 pin din to 2 Rca plugs
