      I have to set up one too. I just find it annoying that things cant be simple with turn tables. Got to do so much work. Miss the old days when you can just plug and go. I had a cheap one that was like that but it started wobbling badly so wound up getting a more expensive one and i went to set up and boom nadda. needed to go back to get the amplifer and speakers and stero wire. Need to wait for the speakers to come in but im hoping i dont start a fire or blow anything up. lol

    Many thanks for uploading!
    I implore your viewers not to make my mistake. It's VITAL to ensure not even ONE strand is near the opposite pole when using binding posts, leading to a short circuit! It's remarkably easily done: at 06:24 you'll see what I mean, at the middle of the picture. It's a good idea to tuck the protruding wire around the post in the same direction as you turn the nut so it winds itself in and is less prone to splaying out. (This also usefully increases the contact area, giving better sound).
    I missed a single strand once. It contacted and made a short circuit to the opposite pole. The amp gradually overheated but I didn't know until I smelt it on the other side of the room, by which time its rubber feet were sliding off in their own goo. You may be luckier and have a fuse blow. Better just to check! :-D

    Thank you so much for dumbing this down for people like me, this helped me sooo much! Down to the amazon recommendations/option.
    My brother bought me a turn-table for my birthday last year, and then a few bookshelf speakers for another occasion. It seems like he was as clueless as me, because he didn't buy anything else. Finally, I got tired of staring at them in a corner, so I bought the amp but was still lost on how to connect the cables. I watched a couple of other vids of "how to" but they didn't actually break it down this much and I was getting so frustrated.
    Liked and subscribed! :)

      I'm pretty sure I got mine when I bought some audio gear. They threw in the cables with the deal and happened to have the Monster Cable Banana Plugs attached.. They have been my favorite. The locking banana plugs are my second favorite only because they are so long.

  • @falconward6757
    @falconward6757 4 года назад +28

    The reason for two screws on the pin connector, or on some banana plugs, is something you defeated by stripping the cable too far down. The top screw is to hold the wire while the bottom screw is to hold the cable covering/casing. So you only should strip the wire far enough to allow the bottom screw to engage that casing. It makes for a much more secure and long lasting connection, especially when you pull the plug out multiple times to move the speaker or receiver.

    Thank you for another great video. I’ve a question: I think you’ve connected the ‘Pins’ not right; you use both screws for the kabel without the rubber, but you have to screw the frontscrew to make contact with the blank wire (you can fold the blank wire to make a better grip) and screw the backscrew with the rubber!. With this connection it holds longer without the chance to break it. Second question: did you know that you can also put the bananaplug into most receiver-connectors by onscrewing them first and put the plug into the hole for the blank wire? On this way the plugs won’t unplug when you’re moving the receiver.(I’m Dutch, so sorry for my english....)

    Would you say that attaching banana plugs to bare copper wire cables for attachment to speakers is better than just a bare wire connected to the speaker..?
    In short, would there be an improvement in sound quality?
    Finally, the shorter the speaker cable, means a superior ( better...) quality of sound, am I correct?

    Hi. thnx for the tutorial. I`ve still got one question. My wires are kinda defferent, they got a plastic cover>wire inside of it> another thiner plastic inside> and another second wire inside of the second plastic. what are the purposes of the two layers of wires (inside and around him)?

    Techno Dad, Do you know if using stiff pin connectors on a speaker with spring or clip loading inputs works? Or do you have to use the raw wire or flexible pins on the spring loaded/clip loading speaker inputs? Thanks!

      It would probably work. But it’s a better solid connection if u use bare wire

    Good stuff for a dummy like me, last time I wired up stereo kit was in the 70's particularly helpful with the bi-wire and the bars on the speakers, thanks Ted

    We just purchased a house that has an integrated speaker system. What do we need to buy to plug all of the wires into? There seem to be 4 wires for each room with speakers inside and outside of the house. There’s no way we can plug all of these wires into a regular stereo. My husband and I are not tech savvy and would appreciate any help. You’re very easy to understand and I’m fairly certain I could follow any advice given. Thanks in advance. Blessings!

    Great information. I will have 7 speakers about 23 feet high in the ceiling. I do not want to have any problems with the speaker connections. Which speaker connection do you recommend for the money and which connection do you recommend for a fail safe/30 year permanent solution? I will need to rent a lift so I want to get this right!

    If you hook up 9 speakers (5.1.4) to an AV receiver, that would be 36 times pulling the rubber and plastic casing off the copper. So go and buy a wire stripper, its worth it.

    • @TechnoDad
      @TechnoDad  6 лет назад +5

      Lol, yeah, I hear what you're saying. Although, I already had a 5.1 setup before I started the move to Atmos and then bought cables that already had pre-terminated ends.

      Jan Reinhardt what about the subwoofer? Doesn’t it needs the speaker wires too? (Im new to this speaker/home theater scene) by my math you only counted the 3 front speakers 2 surrounds and the 4 cieling speakers in the setup u were talking about. Which would add up to 9x4=36 which doesn’t include the subwoofer

    Hey, thanks for the help! Is there a way to hook up speakers (spring clamp wire style) to a DVD player instead of a receiver? The DVD player doesn’t have the positive and negative wire outlets, but is there an adapter or a work around?

    I’ve been searching around RUclips for how to connect some JBL Control 5s. Can you help me out? I’m trying to find some affordable amps/receiver to power these suckers - apparent info 4 ohms 175W are important in deciding an amp, idk.
    My older brother gave them to me so I can hear my beats made from my laptop. Any help would be appreciated 🎉

    On my way to upgrade my basic Denon 5.1 1610 AVR. Either I go for an AVR + ext amp or processor + amp. Looking at cost vs performance, what do you suggest? I like your option of the 3 channel amp for the LCR channel.
