Beautiful! I am watching this tonight from my house, eight miles away from Yosemite National Park. I'm thrilled to see these trees thriving in Holland! My main feeling is gratitude. Thank you so much for caring for them and giving them a proper home. May they bring joy to you and your children, and your grandchildren, and your great grandchildren, and...
Like so many others in the comments, I’ve also been anxiously waiting for an update. And 5:14 holy cow! That Sequoia grew like 50% larger in like a year and a half. Not to surprising though, the older they get the faster they grow. Boy this is exciting!
I have been following this series for 8 years and I have to say I love it. Thank you, one day I will have my own video series with my pitch pines that I have been growing.
Grew several giant sequoia seedlings in the late '90s. I'm a retired former municipal Forester. I grew these trees that survived 25 degrees below zero winter temperatures in the state of Illinois. They were 3 feet tall when I donated them to an exotic nursery for reproduction and introduction into the trade. Unfortunately they misplaced them and lost them during a greenhouse transfer. Hence,my interest.
Please name them after their caretaker. These will grow up one day to be the largest trees of europe and will visited by thousands. All their history and videos in a link with QR code next to a board near trees. what an exciting project. Amazing hardwork and care and dedication by the grower!
*YES SIR MARTIN* 😁😁 aka the giant sequoia legend I love what your doing with these Redwoods absolutely inspiring straight up inspiring thank you ! And bless you sir!
In their natural habitat of the Sierra Nevada mountains in California they ground will be covered with several feet of snow during the winter. (sadly, one of the reasons the forest is so stressed is the long term drought is weakening the trees).
I have about 30 beautiful two-year-old sequoia dendrons and a dozen redwood one-year-olds at home. But the climate outside the window is bad - Siberia. I am looking for where to introduce them. There are a couple of places, but for this I need to change my place of residence or buy a plot of land - I am choosing now. There are several locations. The cheapest and with a similar climate in the Valdai Plain. True, there are no mountains there, but your experience in Holland is encouraging.
great to see you upload again! Your channel inspired me to get 21 giant sequoia saplings of my own. :) I've had them for nearly a year now, along with one i sprouted from a seed. i also bought a pack of 50 seeds and around 30 sprouted but birds ate them all, luckily i still have 22 alive at the moment. :)
I would like people to learn from this example, to set themselves tasks with an event horizon of hundreds ... thousands of years, and for this to transfer their plans to fulfill the new generations of their children! It is especially important to teach this to our children.
Another year, another update: the first 15 years of two giant sequoias; At the end the introduction of the little nephew, donated to the ancient Duivenvoorde castle. ruclips.net/video/DB3euAKWLpk/видео.html
Make sure you plant them in a deep clay soil that is also well draining on a slight decline. That’s the best way to make sure they grow strong and healthy.
@@Waterdiver3900 i took it for around 3 weeks in the refrigerator, then i think it took about 2/3 weeks for them to start sprouting, had 8 out of 20, but they are really weak, so pay close attention, i got 2 still alive rn😁
@@martinvn123 I think sequoias trees are very rare in India actually here banian trees the common biggest trees, I guess 3 -4 years back I see your video and also some other videos about sequoias, your video is one of a kind growth video that I never seen before Thank you for sharing.
I found out the reason they grow so much and theirs a lot of them in California is apparently because wildfires are a part of their ecosystem the fires burn low and with their fire resistant barks are able to withstand anything and with the heat that fire produces the sequoias cones open up releasing hundreds of seeds and wind spreads them around the forest so they start to Germanate with fresh soil and when fall, winter and, spring come along they get plenty of snow and rain and the process restarts during the summer. I thought I would share what I learned about these trees yesterday from a park ranger
Hi Martin I live in a cold climate and we have pretty freezing winters. I tried two trees last year and the pots froze. How did you protect your pots from freezing in winter?
The problem is not the freezing. It also freezes in the Sierra Nevada. The problem is that the roots in the pot are no longer getting water because the ground is frozen and there is no water in the pot. They then dry out. Maybe you can put them in a shed or something like that when it starts to freeze?
Incredible, how location makes a difference. I grew one in my garden in austria. It's 6 years old and almost 5 meters in height. Gotta say, that I'd prefer the slower growth that your climate demands, since mine might become a problem for its area in a few years
You should always be careful where you plant them. If you're planting them in your own yard, you may need to coordinate that with the neighbors (and sometimes even with the neighbor's neighbors.)
My 4 3 year old sequoias is doing pretty bad. We had cold winter i burried them in the snow. We had -27C and branch endings have visible frost damage. I hope they will survive. I took them inside my house because cold drying winds are aproaching and there is frost outside without snow. So end of winter for them. Greetings froma Latvia ! I also trie to grow some sequoias 😉Best wishes for your two successful ones!
I hope your trees has survived the winter. They must be able to withstand the cold. The same temperatures occur in their natural environment in the Sierra Nevada. The problem may be that the ground is so frozen that they cannot absorb water and then dry out.

No it is a tree, not a corona infection. The trees mainly grow longitudinally in the first years. From the fifth year on they grow on average about 80 centimeters per year and they grow about 1 to 2 centimeters in width per year. When they are about forty or fifty years old, they grow a little more in the latitude - they're like people. The growth in length continues in the meantime, but at a slightly slower pace.
