The record for production cars has rules, which includes no use of slicks, which this car ran on both runs(it makes a big difference). Current production car record is the Aventador LP770-4 SVJ(even if there is some doubts to the validity of this one) closely followed by the GT2RS. For other vehicles it was recently broken by the 919 evo that did a 5min19. If it only talks to breaking the EV record on the ring, thats a very short list of cars... Having said that, I love that the passion for cars and performance is still visible even with EVs and this car is damn impressive.

I fully agree with you if this discussion would be about a normal car that you drive on daily base. That's why just a very small percentage of the market is electrical. This car makes 1380hp, has more downforce than a f1 car, most likely ran on racing slicks and has a race car interior. It damn better be fast. For that much power and downforce it's actually pretty slow
For that much downforce and power it should be MUCH faster. The gas equivalent would be significantly faster. I just don't think you realize how much downforce changes things. The huracan performante mostly just added downforce and it cut its lap time like 30 seconds or something like that. The performante adds probably maybe 1000lbs of downforce over the standard car who's has maybe a couple hundred. This nio has over 5300lbs of downforce. This car is fast but it's the downforce that is impressive, not the electric.

If you want "Zero-Emission", you would have to kill humanity... Every human puts out about 4 kg of CO2 every single day and there are 7 billion of us now... And even if everybody would drive around with EV's, most countrys are shutting down the only near-zero-emission-plants they have an build coal and gas plants instead to back up wind and solar... I'm not saying it is not happening, but it still is a VERY long way to zero-emission from now on... And think about that : If all of the industry wont change in the next couple of years to built reliable products and encourage people to use them as long as possible, humanity won't have the chance of worrying about climate change because our greed is killing us faster than we think^^
Most countries switch to gas power plants to back up solar, the U.S. being a great example since it now produces more electricity from natural gas than coal fired power plants. However, energy storage will phase out those as well in the next couple of years, as soon as the price of new solar and energy storage is less than a new gas power plant. I do agree that pollution won't stop with either electric cars and zero emission energy sources, however, if we achieve at least this much we can stop worrying about air pollution and move on to tackle ground and water pollution. A difficult to solve problem in terms of green house gases won't be from transportation or energy generation, rather from land use change, desertification and thawing permafrost releasing carbon and methane into the atmosphere and last but not least, agriculture.
i read about emissions lately. less than 8 % of the total emissions are caused by petrel engines. this is just a big gamechanger for some companies. under the name of "0 emissions and saving the future" they're making a huge amount of money and the citizen is forced to pay these games.
