    While my father was stationed at Pearl Harbor we lived at two different military housing areas just outside of Nimitz gate...I can't remember which was the first home it's been many years since we left Hawaii...The first townhouse was very old and I think it was called Hale Moku housing and when dad made a higher rank we moved to a ranch style housing called Makalapa housing, very nice and newer...These years for my family were the best time of our lives, 4 years of paradise and not a day goes by that I don't think about our life on Oahu.

    If you have a dog definitely fly Hawaiian (/Alaskan?) and fly on the same flight with your pet. United and American are NOT pet friendly. With recent changes to pet travel entitlements associated with PCS, SATO may be able to book you on Hawaiian or DMO may authorize you to self-procure your ticket and then you can book on Hawaiian.

    Years ago I was SO looking forward to staying in Waikiki for two weeks or a month because housing wasn’t available. I had heard of that happening to people and they didn’t like it. I would have loved it, even with a toddler. It was the second tour to Hawaii so I knew where things were. Well, after one day living at the beach we got housing. I was beyond disappointed.

    When we moved there, we stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village for a few days. I have been interested in the Hale Koa and my dad stays there when he goes back. I remember Hale Koa had good luaus outside.

      You’re right, the Luau! Although there are many options (Hilton Hawaiian Village has their share of events and entertainment as well) Hale Koa’s luau is noteworthy. Thanks for binging that up 🤙

    I will second flying with Hawaiian Airlines. Especially if you have pets your experience with Hawaiian will be away better. I did road trip from Missouri to California and got Hawaiian Airlines from SF. Their crew will also take you to or show you the Quarantine Station at the airport where you have to pick your pet from.

    • @Dornosliw

      HAL did not show me to the quarantine (and I asked a few employees) but with proper research it’s no worry.

    Great video and perfect timing as I'm preparing to PCS to Honolulu in about a month! I will be shipping over an electric vehicle. Any insight on EV ownership/charging/special fees in Hawaii? Also curious about the effects of the salt air that I may need to take into consideration. Thanks in advance! Aloha 😊!

      Hey, this is a complex convo that can vary based on a lot of things. What rank so we can know BAH? We’d want to discuss level of amenities in like a Capitol Place cs Honolulu Tower va Makiki vs like Nahele. Let’s schedule a consult if you’re up for it..

    Could you tell me what kind of drone you use? We are taking my brother to Oahu next month for his “Make-A-Wish trip.” he’s on hospice care now, but still healthy enough to travel.
    I would really love to have some drone footage of our trip there. Forgive me for asking. This question a second time. Mahalo!

    Do you have to have flood insurance? How much does home insurance impact the monthly mortgage cost? Moving to Hawaii is a serious consideration, but so many things impact the monthly mortgage cost and it’s difficult to factor in without knowing more in depth information (VA buyer). Can you shed any light here or should I contact you directly? TIA. 🙏🏻

    Me and my husband are hoping to PCS to Hawaii but we also have 3 cats. Do you have any experience or advice with cats?

    • @SN-bl6xm
      @SN-bl6xm 6 месяцев назад

      I have a cat and I would like to move to Hawaii. It’s seems what is very important is that your cats have all vaccinations and all documents required. Otherwise your cats will have to stay in quarantine for several weeks. What I am wondering is what airline is the pet friendliest to fly to Hawaii. I would only fly where I can have my cat in the cabin with me.

    • @sydneylinh_
      @sydneylinh_ 6 месяцев назад

      @@SN-bl6xm I don’t think there’s any airline to Hawaii that let’s you bring your cat in cabin due to the fact they have to go straight to quarantine center where you can pick them up. Just what I’ve heard

    • @SN-bl6xm
      @SN-bl6xm 6 месяцев назад

      @@sydneylinh_ I just googled and Hawaiian Airline lets you take your cats and dogs into the cabin. I also didn’t hear that pets arriving to Hawaii all need to go to quarantine. Only if you don’t have all vaccines and/or paperwork is missing, only then they need to go to quarantine for several weeks. Otherwise if you have all the vaccines, all the paperwork and at arrival they don’t see any need to quarantine your pet, you can take them home immediately.

    The word “haole” should absolutely be retired along with the “N-word” (also surprisingly prevalent on Oahu amongst local kids 🤦🏻‍♂️). At best it’s a divisive term and anyone using it towards you is not your friend or you may want to re-think getting too close to that person though they appear friendly. That being said no Polynesian has said that to me though I have tactfully corrected other long term residents from using that word with me. Most of my kids haven’t reported it but then some of them “pass” easier then other kids. Bottom line is stay Pono, throw aloha at all times, and no worry beef curry. If you run across it politely assert yourself, if this doesn’t work the other individual has self-identified as ignorant and you avoid them and their bad vibes.

    • @danyocummings
      @danyocummings 6 месяцев назад +2

      Haole is a descriptor we use to describe things that are foreign. Historically, we’ve had many people come to Hawai’i and try to change our language over the years… some have tried to eradicate our native language altogether by systematically removing it from our school systems, and some have even claimed that it evokes the same negativity of the n-word. We call those people haoles.

    • @Dornosliw
      @Dornosliw 6 месяцев назад

      @@danyocummings bad vibes brah. You’d be one I’d choose to avoid and advise others to do the same. You’ll learn or go extinct. 🤙🏼

      @@danyocummingsI know what he means, it has a negative connotation and that can't be denied. It maybe was never intended to be that way so I hope that the genuine people can slowly change it. Bit otherwise it is dorogstory towards white people.
