I had some people telling me the acoustic are thin... or lack mid and bass.. but the thing is.. some acoustic do... even the martin they modelled etc.. they are alldifferent. These are incredible guitar and im surprise that no other compagny has come up with stuff like that. Its super cool to jam writte a song with these...and then somoene ask for a banjo or a acousgic... turn a knob and voila.
You must be the best demo-man on this planet.Seen many clips of you, all sounds so good.Your playing "awesome", line6 must be glad to have you!So many styles you play, unbelievable, many greetings
I own a JTV 59... and regarding your question, If you use the magnetic pick-ups it will disable the modeling and alt. tuning function. If you use the modeling sound, the digital piezo will be activated and disable the magnetic pickups.... however, the good thing about this guitar, the transition from modeling sound to magnetic pickups is very instant. there is no latency or whatever... very good guitar.
This demo sounds better than any other Variax demo on RUclips or even Line 6's site, for that matter. What is going on that it sounds SO much better? Even demos by the same player don't sound as good as this one. Maybe it's the particular touch of this player? In any case, this is very impressive!
This is now my "go to" video for those elitists who insist on portraying the Variax as a "toy". I gig with mine and my POD HD500 (and not much else!) every weekend. Switching between acoustics, electrics, sitar (Metheny's Last Train Home) and even banjo (Who's Squeeze Box) instantly from the POD.
teerexness I too was one of those people who viewed the variax as a gimmick. After hearing this video I caved and bought a used like new variax 700 in trans blue
The combination of the Variax and the POD HD500 (the only POD I'd recommend for this rig due to Line 6's inexplicable decision to only include the VDI port on the 500 model) is incredibly powerful. Each POD preset can easily be setup to INCLUDE the guitar of your choice, as well as amp, cabinet, effects and even microphone. So one tap on a footswitch can take you from The Stones' "Angie" acoustics to the ringing Rick 12-string of the Beatles' "Help" and almost anything else you can dream of.
One of the best demos I've heard- great player also. I'm amazed a some of the crap demos I've seen and heard...like they really didn't want to sell you one.
first and main reason, this one's recorded direct, without an amp. the player is very good. the pieces played are well suited to the virtual instruments they're played on.
@TheEternalLeader You can still access the same number of tones in the JTV59 despite it only having a 3 way switch as opposed to a 5 way. You can download the manual from our website where it goes into more detail about this.
Outstanding playing & tone tx for the quality demo. I'm glad I read your signal route/chain. You got engineering skill for sure (and some quality gear)!
I've been a Strat man all my life (well so far anyway!) and while I have no intention of giving up my current ax, I can't wait to add a Variax to my arsenal. As a pro muso the extra range it'll give me will be worth whatever I pay for it.
The actual sound of the guitar itself is coming from the Variax, not the HD500 - however, any effects or tone-shaping you're hearing is the HD500 - it went direct into Pro Tools. The HD500 doesn't have guitar modeling built in, just amps and effects.
Hey Enzo - you'll definitely want to turn the amp modeling off when playing acoustics - this is direct right into a pair of mic preamps, and then into PT.
@zedchuva To clarify, the alt tunings require that the signal already be in DSP, so you would need to use Variax versions of the magnetic sounds to be able to retune on the fly. Does that help?
Did you ever get a reply? The tuning knob has a push, push switch which toggles the 3 way switch from 1-3-5 to 2-3-4. eg on the strat it functions as a 5 way or on the Ricky it switches to 12-string in position 2
The acoustic models played here are stock, and were not tweaked in Workbench. Is it possible that you're playing rather hard? Try softening your attack somewhat. We also have five new acoustics coming in 1.8 (out soon) that are pretty much incredible - so stand by.
Does having the 3-way switch limit the tones you can get out of this guitar? The other two guitars both have a 5-way if I'm not mistaken, does that mean they're going to have more options? ( I can never remember the names, isn't it the JTV-59, JTV-69, and JTV-89 or something? ) Anyways, thanks for the reply if you do and awesome product and player!
I'm hangin to get mine... I've been waiting for months now and apparently they are arriving in Australia mid November. It would be great to know if he's using a pod hd500 and what kind of processing he's using. The key to watching this is to close your eyes and picture the guitars he's playing
Bro, nice video, got a question! I just bought myself a JTV-59 (tobacco sunburst though), and also got the HD500, can you tell me what's ur patch? I'm having a little hard time figuring out the best amp modelling to use, or if you ain't using amp modelling, can you share a little info about the settings in your HD500? Thanks in advance :)
Hi Shawn, I´m truly impressed by your playing, very cool! Please allow my a couple of questions: 1) I´m primarily a Tele/Strat Player, so kinda tuned into their specific string spacing at the "point of picking", mostly between the two PU´s, or closer to the bridge. Is the Strat STV Model in that respect identical? 2) Besides that, is there soundwise a recommendation, as to which model translates best into the various electriv and acoustic models? (g.e. Guitarsynthwise there is trackingwise a difference betweenStrat/Les Paul Model sometimes) 3) I would need it live mostly in a trio setting, so Im wondering how powerfull I´ll be able to cut through, when it gets louder,,,;-) i.a.w. : would you still recommend it for a louder life situation, or prefer it more in the controlled studio environment? (I use a VG-8 equipped Taylor, which cuts through nicely) 4) Which of the two basic models is easier managable when changing sounds and tunings? 5) Would it make for a life setting sense to use the HD 500, or the HD 500X as acontroller, to simplify things? 6) I plan to add a Roland GK-3 PU to the bridge for all my synthesis, any suggestion as to what model is preferrable for that? (Don´t really use much tremolo-arm-stuff) 7) Last not least, has the reliability for heavy road use been cool as far as you know from customer feedback? Thanx for your help - I really appreciate it! ;-) Your Richard Schumacher Check out, if you like ;-) itunes.apple.com/us/album/right-of-way/id793228174
to be honnest... this sound amazing ... because of the sound chain... and the modelling...but it certainly highlight that... a 1928 martin.... would sound crappy has hell in a home studio... with that sound chain... im pretty sure even my fart would sound great and detail. lol/// good job. yes... variax are no toy... iv use it a lot in my control room out of lazyness to go in the booth... and guess what... nobody realised that... lol...
Although I'm new to this, I think the demo would have been much more convincing if not played in front of a wall of gear which probably gives you endless possibilities of sound-generating anyway. But a very good player though ;-)
Really great sound and great playing! Can you give us informations about the effects and tone-shaping within the HD500, or provide some files? I have nearly the same equipment (JTV 69+HD500) and can´t get close to that. Or does the body make it different?
Eric Margaroli The word "Hope" was added to the hyperlink, for some reason. Copy and paste the link into your browser's URL field, and then remove the stuff after "seanhalley". Hope that helps....
Line 6 - I just purchased the jtv-69 and hd500x and am having the worst issue of the accoustic models sounding distorted when strumming hard. Is this a known issue or is there something else to try. I'm going direct to our sound board and this happens when headphones too. Help.!
Richard Schumacher Not yet. Playing lighter and adjusting setting in hd500x preamp / tube comp helps some. But even worse now is that there is a deep and disturbing sound that comes out of certain frets. I need to record it on the pc to share but i've pretty much given up on using the variax as my accoustic for now.
I wonder if it matters if it's in tune at all since it can just be dialed to whatever tuning you want without touching the tuners..perhaps as long as the strings are close to standard? (like it wouldn't work if the strings were that loose they were flapping in the breeze)
.... OK how i said i bought the JTV 59... And yes the Most Sounds are incredible but specaly the Acoustic Sounds are .... How can i say " Underwelming" fits the most. So i bought the POD Pro HD X - Same Thing.... ( At least cause the crappy Line 6 USB Converter does not work ) Frustrating but true - next Thing ist the Kemper.... Or maybe anyone can tell me the secret of the great tones in this Video... ( WHO Made me buy all of this Stuff )
That acoustic still sounds so convincing and sweet! I use Variax guitars today mainly for the ability to go acoustic anytime I want.
I had some people telling me the acoustic are thin... or lack mid and bass.. but the thing is.. some acoustic do... even the martin they modelled etc.. they are alldifferent. These are incredible guitar and im surprise that no other compagny has come up with stuff like that. Best guitar tecnology ever... So underrated!
You must be the best demo-man on this planet.Seen many clips of you, all sounds so good.Your playing "awesome", line6 must be glad to have you!So many styles you play, unbelievable, many greetings
Authentic sounding models, and a great demonstration to highlight the uniqueness of the various instruments
I own a JTV 59... and regarding your question, If you use the magnetic pick-ups it will disable the modeling and alt. tuning function. That first martin, makes the whole guitar worth it
This concept is so great! And already 11 years old. It needs a modern upgrade like a Variax HD Premium or Variax Helix.
This demo sounds better than any other Variax demo on RUclips or even Line 6's site, for that matter. What is going on that it sounds SO much better? Even demos by the same player don't sound as good as this one. Maybe it's the particular touch of this player? In any case, this is very impressive!
man your playing is so tasty to obscure the beauty of the jtv sounds!

Nice! I have the exact same and I also have the exact same as shown in the vid 👍😁

You are much too kind sir! :-) Keep watching - many more fun things coming up!
That Bossa progression was really nice.
One of the best demos I've heard- great player also. I'm amazed a some of the crap demos I've seen and heard...like they really didn't want to sell you one.

Two words - holy crap!
Best demo of this instrument yet...well done mate! This video has sold me. Great player also.
It sounds very good thank to the guitarist. It's so good to hear you play. Thank you.

SO REALISTIC
Very good demo, nice sounds and nice playing
@zedchuva JTV comes with magnetic pickups and digital piezo pickups which you can use alt tunings with.
I've been a Strat man all my life (well so far anyway!) and while I have no intention of giving up my current ax, I can't wait to add a Variax to my arsenal. As a pro muso the extra range it'll give me will be worth whatever I pay for it.
this video IS the reason I bought my variax - same model//nut I haven't come close to the sounds Sean gets - still - I LOVE the axe
I’m not sure why they didn’t take this technology further. It’s a great instrument, and of course, the player is outstanding as well.
Another good video, of this killer machine.
This was recorded direct from the XLR outputs of the HD500.
this video is what makes me wanna buy it
The actual sound of the guitar itself is coming from the Variax, not the HD500 - however, any effects or tone-shaping you're hearing is the HD500 - it went direct into Pro Tools. The HD500 doesn't have guitar modeling built in, just amps and effects.
Killer demo. Better models than my goldtop 700 VAX. I want one!
i must have this !
only wish line 6 would give the variax a nylon guitar sound. please make it happen!
Hey Enzo - you'll definitely want to turn the amp modeling off when playing acoustics - this is direct right into a pair of mic preamps, and then into PT.
Fantastic guitar man
Awesome playin` and tone...
@Steveromig Check the description, they let you know exactly how it's recorded. Visit us on Facebook when you get yours and share your thoughts :)
Sweet sounds!

Coooooll! I want one!!
Bonjour, est-il possible de faire sonner aussi bien avec une JTV-69 + Helix LT + HeadRush FR-FR 112 ?
This video is all 100% direct.
What a sound! But how comes the variax acoustic modelling into game as the guitar seems to be connected via a standard 1/4 jack guitar cable?
Did you ever get a reply?
The tuning knob has a push, push switch which toggles the 3 way switch from 1-3-5 to 2-3-4. eg on the strat it functions as a 5 way or on the Ricky it switches to 12-string in position 2
yep i need to get me one of those

Yikes! What an awesome demo. Would like to know the entire signal path on this. Was anything used or straight to recording.
I'm hangin to get mine... I've been waiting for months now and apparently they are arriving in Australia mid November.
It would be great to know if he's using a pod hd500 and what kind of processing he's using.

Only nylon guitar is missing. Is there any hope for modeled nylon guitar for variax?
I have a JTV 59p and Pod hd500. Can i use the pod as an interface for protools se?
can you share this patch for acoustic sounds? thanks
Hi,
always nice demos from sean.
Which Amps/Cabs do you use for the Accoustics?
Thank you very much!!
Is Line 6 ever going to develop a Variax retrofit for other electric or acoustic guitars?
sir can you make a video on how to set up the gig for the acoustic part

Dr. Joachim Prüeß-Völcker Sean's patches are here: line6.com/customtone/profile/seanhalley/Hope that helps!

HEY great!! but really how much does it cost a couple of Neve® mic preamps?))))
Wow seems to be appropriate right about now.
Is the acoustic modeling the same across all Variax models? Or was this one picked to showcase acoustic, particulary?
The tri-cone!😛
does this guitar include all the models of the older "Variax Acoustic 700" ?
@davemis40 Did you get a chance to try one? We hope so :)
which JTV is that...??
The resonator is about enough to push me over the top to get one...
What preset on the hd 500?
Firmware 2.21 in this video?
If i only use this guitar, can i make acousitc sound like this? Or i have to use effect pedal to make this sound?? THanks
+Linh Nguyen Hi Linh, the guitar itself is what produces the acoustic sound, so it works with any gear you already have. Hope that helps.
+Line 6 Movies THank so much. Can you show me the most cheapest guitar of Variax which have acoustic sound like this?
Variax Standard
Line 6 - I just purchased the jtv-69 and hd500x and am having the worst issue of the accoustic models sounding distorted when strumming hard. Is this a known issue or is there something else to try. I'm going direct to our sound board and this happens when headphones too.

Richard Schumacher
Not yet. Playing lighter and adjusting setting in hd500x preamp / tube comp helps some. But even worse now is that there is a deep and disturbing sound that comes out of certain frets. I need to record it on the pc to share but i've pretty much given up on using the variax as my accoustic for now.

It has non-locking tuners, but the guitar still has to be in tune (EADGBE at A440) for the alternate tunings to work properly.
no matter how hard my acoustic sound in the variax tries, it does not sound like that, as I would like to sound like that
Where's your slide man?
.... OK how i said i bought the JTV 59... And yes the Most Sounds are incredible but specaly the Acoustic Sounds are .... How can i say " Underwelming" fits the most.

And dont get me wrong - the JTV 59 ist worth every penny even without the Variax system .... Just amazing
Genial
well, you might forgot to add a top-notch Focusrite preamp a decent Reverb and the guy's hands ;) but it is great anyway :)
Does it have nylon guitar sound?
No
Gringo tocando samba é engraçado demais...
Is this the Korean model?
That moment when u forget you're researching a guitar and just listen to the player 😑
that's bad you guys didnt put Nylons guitars ! :/
Could you guys send me one? :D
those "acoustic" sounds won't fool me
......
ok line 6 sack all other line 6 demo guitarist and stick with this one
