In the UK soccer is generally an elitist term to differentiate the traditionally working class sport of association football from rugby football (rugby union). It's never been popularly known as soccer in the UK, always football. I don't know where you get the idea that people called it soccer in the UK until the 80s. For this we can blame the English. Officially English football is known as Association Football, but somehow the English shortened that to Soccer. In the early 20th C. Americans called it football just like the rest of the world. After the 1920s American Football gained in popularity and soccer all but disappeared.
IMO real football is best and American football is just a sloppy version of Rugby, with tactics like blocking to help the Nancies.

That's for travel teams. Travel teams cost a lot. The problem here is that there is no football culture to speak of. For some kids to play in the street is unheard of. There aren't plentiful parks in our cities with goals and even fields. If a kid wanted to play football and become a pro, he/she would have almost no chance or support from the local community. No tournaments, no coaches, no academies, not even ID camps. There is no opportunity if you aren't rich. I myself was exposed to "soccer" at a a young age, but I didn't start actually wanting to play and watch until I had one really good coach who taught me how to love the game. That was at the age of 13. By then, most lose interest and pick up other sports. That's the way it goes.

Not just that but the cost to play soccer in the US at the highest level is way too much even at a young age. It’s comparable to sports like lacrosse and hockey price wise, so most of the best athletes just choose to play basketball, football or even baseball. Until we get that figured out we’ll always be a step behind Argentina, Brazil and all of the big European nations where that pay to play stuff isn’t a thing. Over there if you’ve got the talent your gonna play the club will figure out the expenses, at least in 90% sure that’s how it is in all the best footballing nations.

I was dying of laughter, thinking to myself, football is the cheapest sport. All you need is a ball. I slowly realized, if you wanted to play football in the USA, you had to pay in so many ways. Parents have to pay the clubs to let their children join. They charge you for everything. Its ridiculous.

Despite the fact that everything you said is true, there's something I think you forgot to mention and that it plays a huge role on why you guys "suck" at it: the lack of a street football culture; even as a kid, before you even join a team and start training, you need that culture of you and your neighbours playing it on the street, trying out new things, getting creative and acostumed with the ball on your feet, the US has got none of that, the teams are usually where you develop a tactical sense of the game and your teamwork skills, but individual and technical skills are better developed on a "no rules" kind of enviorment, without that, you might have a pretty solid team, but you don't have those individual creative stars who unlock games with their crazy skills

Mexican people themselves along with whites who had lived in Texas for a long time decided they didn't want to be a part of Mexico anymore and made their own country. The people living there decided collectively to make their own country, white people didn't come and steal it like you probably believe.
Mexico sucks ass...corrupt hell hole which is why so many of y'all keep attempting to illegally flee to the USA.
You don't want to fix your country you want to fuck up the USA too by bringing your shitty political ideologies here leeching off welfare having 10 anchor babies. You want to come to the USA? Embrace freedom and our constitution/bill of rights? Work hard, get a job, and pay taxes? Great, you're more than welcome to come here legally, otherwise? Fuck off.
The amount of white people who hate anybody is insanely small in fact its negligible and other white people hate racist people...to be honest the most racist people I see these days are minorities pretending to be incredibly oppressed but if you live in the USA and are a citizen here you've got it made compared to the rest of the world. It's not your skin color that's holding you back here its your mindset and your lack of work ethic. It's YOUR choices, anybody can be successful here. This is why the USA is so great, not only because we have real freedoms no other country has but because you can make something of yourself here. Please show me ONE SINGLE racist law that's in existence today...the only one I can even think of is Affirmative action laws.

Shit mate, here in Brasil every single kid since it has 4 yrs is introduced to football and it's the major sport for all men, getting some popularity with women recently. I guess that is essential to notice that is basicly just cultural, one example of this is our Brazilian basketball league and if you've never heard of it it's ok, it sucks.
USA has chosen to focus on american football, baseball and hockey, sports that are not worldwide popular and thus will not be getting as much renown as a FIFA's World Cup. Let's be reasonable, most North American sports are not made to be worldwide, American Football requires lots of equipment to be at least a bit safe, ice hockey...well at least in Brasil is a bit hard to maintain ice due to our climate.
Here in my country everything you need to start playing some good'ol football is two pairs of sandals to place as goals and a ball, the simplicity of football is what makes it so damn beautiful.

Cause football is a cultural thing for them, their parents put the love for the game since they are kids and that's why they play better most of the times, same thing with basketball, is not because you're black you're better it's because balck communities are closer to the sport by culture. Make a football culture in America and you'll have good players no time.

I am a youth coach in the US. I have worked with kids from 3 years old to 22 years old. One of the most heartbreaking things of coaching kids in America is the financial burden the sport is on families. I have seen so many talented young players leave the sport because the cost of just playing was ridiculous. When I worked for a company (will not name), we worked with kids from 18 months to around 9 years old. For 8 50 minute sessions, it cost over 250 dollars. The sessions almost had nothing to do with football in my opinion. The other staff were not licensed coaches. Most other staff had never even played. It was essentially a football themed daycare center. I never had time to proper coach fundamentals because within the 50 minute session, the program that was designed for me contained 5 to 6 "activities". There was no time to develop core skills and an understanding of the sport. I feel bad for the parents who believe their kids will become good/great athletes because of their "investment". Another massive reason for a lack of player development in my opinion is due to the club v high school battle. During the fall, a player from the age of 14 to 18 must choose whether he wants to play for a traveling club side, or represent his high school. While the club side tends to be more structured in terms of identity and coaching staff (meaning coaches must be licensed under the USSF), high school coaches can be volunteers who just enjoy the sport. Don't misunderstand me here. I hold great appreciation for these coaches who want to help out. However, enjoying the sport and understanding the mechanics and tactical side of the game are two different things. I am fortunate enough to work as a coach at a high school that has a clear vision from the varsity level down to the freshman team. This understanding and cohesion allows players to build a strong sense of playing style so that when they have an opportunity to play at the top level (of high school), they fit the system to an extent. The problem is that few high school in the US have the structure we do. Then, for a kid to go from a poorly structured HS to a club with a different identity can be massively detrimental to the players development. Circling back to the financial aspect, it is much cheaper to play high school. I believe that's why we (Americans) have this problem of player development. In most European nations, football clubs are set up from the youngest age group to the senior team. Each coach has a similar philosophy and understanding of the clubs expectations. By the time a player is nearly 16, they have been instilled with a sense of identity that the club strives for, thus, allowing them to be successful in the senior side should they be good enough. The US will always be behind European nations for many reasons. This is just the one that I have experienced on a personal level. For those wondering, I am licensed under the USSF. I have coached both at the high school game, and the club level. I have seen both sides of the coin and until we can figure out how to set up a system with the MLS, I don't see player development in the US getting much better. End rant.

It is still seen as an important aspect of growing up. The op was saying that it’s dumb to say that education is valued. I’m not saying that America has good schools because it doesn’t. If y’all had good reading comprehension you’d see that. I’m showing that the point that school is valued in the us culturally is accurate. It’s also accurate that zero effort is put into this system by people. It can be trash and be valued. Education is always talked about as important. You are always encouraged to stay in school regardless of problems you have. I literally already said it was trash. We all agree it’s trash now the crux of my argument isn’t a defense of American schools but explaining that Americans value school even if it is horrible. The video made a good point. The person I commented to made a point that school wasn’t seen as important. I said it was regardless of how bad it is. Women rights are not at the same level that it is in the U.S. There's more discrimination and less support for female soccer players in the latin countries. as a fellow American, I can’t help but agree on every point here. The few fans that like football (or the forbidden word sOcCeR) in the US are very passionate about it, but the talent just isn’t there. To most Americans, football is used as something called a “gateway sport”. Parents throw their kids, usually around 4-8 years old, into recreational football leagues for their kid to learn things like teamwork, cooperation and coordination. Once the league is finished, the parent then pulls their kid out of the league to play a more popular American sport like basketball or football because the things they want their kids to develop (teamwork, etc.) has already been practiced through playing football, which is almost like an afterthought to them now that their kid is playing the sport THE PARENT wants to play. Also, there’s a very irritating stigma here in the US that football is a “gIrL’s SpOrT” or that it isn’t a sport at all. For example, I saw a video one time where a guy quit football for hand-egg and the comments were flooded with things like “good job, you quit a women’s sport for a real man sport!”, which really pissed me off. Finally, it’s so true that the domestic football here is bad. The MLS is shit. I’d rather watch the Belarusian League than watch ex-European players (Titi Henry, Steven Gerrard, etc.) destroy every team even though they’re in their late 30s.

I've said for years that if America put as much time and resources into football as they do in other sports (like College football and basketball), they could easily be the best in the world. Weirdly, they don't seem all that interested though.
Also, a big problem with the MLS is the fact that it is a 'closed' system. It's an exclusive little club, with no relegations or promotions, and no real footballing pyramid like every other nation has. Yeah, there are other leagues, but they're separate entities, and the teams that play in them have little to no chance of gaining admittance to the MLS unless they decide to expand the league. That stifles any real competition or drive to improve the sport as a whole. It's happy in its cosy little bubble, but unlike the bubbles the NBA or the NFL exist in, there is no major College variant beneath it to back it up with new talent.
If America had 3 or 4 leagues, with promotions and relegations between them, there would be a lot more teams competing, which would mean a lot more places for players to play., which would increase the opportunities available and raise the chances of America unearthing a star.
Case in point - Jamie Vardy. 7 years ago he was playing for Fleetwood Town in the 5th tier of English Football (known as 'Non-League' or semi-pro level). 4 years later he helped Leicester City win the Premier League and became an England regular.
With the system America currently has in place, you're highly unlikely to ever find a late-blooming star like Jamie Vardy of your own

The main reason the US sucks is not because we dont have great players, because we do.
Its because its pay to play and for some great kids' parents cant afford that.

TheOriginalPoot stfu but honored seeker has a point since football isn't so popular here there's not many academies and so the lower class may not be able to pay for a talented player and since academies can't bring in talent they get people with more money to help them which won't get them anywhere

It's disgusting in America. In my country all you need is a ball and you can become a great player. It's like how our hospitals are free for medication etc, but in America it's expensive.

The US is bad at Basketball, American Football, Ice Hockey and Baseball too, so the point is moot anyway.

An American using the term "football" correctly?? You sir have my respect

    • @3dsaulgoodman43

I wouldn't say that there is a correct term for football. It can be called anything. Basically this is what they call a 'dialect'. And no human being has the right to tell an entire country what to call something.

    • @carlosvg2286
      @carlosvg2286 4 года назад +3

You can call football "hippytyhop" if you want. But football is the correct term.

@@carlosvg2286 There is no correct term like the guy said its called dialect. Just like how British people call fries chips but you don't see us out here scolding them for calling it chips instead of fries so i don't see the problem with calling it soccer.
