It is still considered one of the biggest betrayals in football history even if it's mostly not Figo's fault. I still remember Florentino Perez's smile at the first Barca-Real match after Figo's transfer.
I was alsp expecting that like if Perez is the mastermind behind of Figo's betrayal. And if its true, Then the barca fans must know it. Im not a both fans of the clubs, But im still blame on Perez by that.
@@putragobs1017 Barca fans know this, everyone knows this. But for them it doesn't matter, you don't play for Barca, kissing the crest and all that and then you go and play for their bitter rivals.
As i remember, he was often the casualty of the "only 3 foreign players on the pitch-rule" Romario, Koeman and Stoichkov was often preffered, which left Laudrup out! Ridiculous because Laudrup was a passing savant in a passing happy Barcelona team! I think Laudrup quite wanted to stay and play, so in that sense he was pushed out of Barcelona...

No nothing was like Mo Johnston joining Rangers before or since. Rangers fans said they wanted to sell their season tickets back. At least Man United fans were happy when Van Persie joined. Mo Johnston managed to incite hatred in both teams. Also this was when Scotland was a tough nation too rather than current Scotland which is a shadow of its former self.
Funny thing about betrayals is its only used to refer to players. Fans and teams only want loyalty from players but don't give loyalty themselves to players. A player can be blindsided by a team deciding to sell them or not renew their contract. And its just business. But if a player decides to leave, fans hate him and the clubs feel betrayed. As a Barca fan, I hold no hate for Figo. He had every right to leave if he felt it was a good decision for his career. Barca were struggling and wouldn't pay him more. Its well known in sports that if you want a star to stay with a struggling side, you'll need to pay more.
I agree, right up until the point where the player signs to the arch rival team. There are some things you just don't do. I feel the hate is 100% deserved in such cases.
@M4RCi92 IT IS A JOB, NOTHING MORE. Those rivalries were crested by whom? A few betrayals in Norway could give all these 6 a run for their money. Now, I'm a Bodø/Glimt fan. So I'm actively enjoying some of these betrayals. What's even crazier is that these ones happened in the span of just a couple of months with just the last 2 transfer windows. In no particular order: 1. Geir Bakke from Lillestrøm to Vålerenga in the summer 2023 2. Daniel Bassi from Tromsø to Bodø/Glimt, summer 2023 3. Jostein Gundersen from Tromsø to Bodø/Glimt, early winter 2024 4. Gaute Helstrup from Tromsø to Bodø/Glimt, early winter 2024 5. August Mikkelsen from Hammarby to Bodø/Glimt deadline day 2024 6. Runar Espejord from Herenveen to Bodø/Glimt, winter 2022. Seeing a pattern? Good. Now, some context. Vålerenga vs Lillestrøm is by far the biggest derby in Norwegian football. Trumps Vålerenga vs Lyn (west Oslo vs east Oslo) and even Fredrikstad vs Sarspborg (Østfold derby). Stunt pegg has a video on this rivalry. The fans hate each other, the clubs hate each other, like they've celebrated each other's relegations, they're both rather big clubs from the same area, so transfers between those 2 clubs doesn't really happen. But on a faithful day the summer of 2023, Geir Bakke after being a very successful Lillestrøm coach for a while having lead them through promotion and 2020 and created a relatively stable high flying club, he just leaves his project to coach a relegation battling Vålerenga. He was called Quisling by lillestrøm fans, the lillestrøm fans hung up a rat banner, a big drawing of a rat with Geir Bakke's head hanging with a sack of money. Now, the rest of the betrayals are between Tromsø and Bodø/Glimt. Tromsø and Bodø/Glimt are the only 2 football teams that play at a high level while located above the arctic circle. It's known as the Arctic circle derby, they're the 2 biggest cities in northern Norway, it's Bodø vs Tromsø, Nordland fylke vs Troms fylke, it's the battle of Northern Norway. Granted August Mikkelsen and Runar Espejord arent' direct transfers from Tromsø to Bodø/glimt, however both of 'em became HUGE fan favourites for Tromsø after their long carreers in Tromsø, they're both Tromsø acadamy products, Mikkelsen for example said no to a transfer to Glimt early in his carreer because he didn't want to betray Tromsø, but after he'd had a season in Hammarby, Glimt tried bid after bid for Mikkelsen, and the bid eventually got so huge that hammarby just had to accept. Same story basically with Espejord, though Espejord has a bigger carreer in Tromsø, he spent 6 season in Tromsø, so he's a rather big figure from Tromsø. And he transfered to Glimt in 2022, and now he's called Quisling too. (Quisling was the historical norwegian Nazi sympathizer, there's a reason that name is synonymous with Judas). Daniel Bassi is slightly more forgivable, as he wanted to join Glimt due to style of play. He wanted to be an attacking left winger instead of what Tromsø was offering him as a fullback. And Daniel Bassi is young, so people don't really blame him that much. And Bassi wasn't getting that much game time anyway, he's no established name. It's possible to let that transfer go. Now Gaute Helstrup and Jostein Gundersen however, oh hoh now those two betraying Tromsø was the biggest strike by far. Gaute Helstrup was the Tromsø manager who lead Tromsø to a 3rd place finish in eliteserien as an underdog team, they were solid defensively and didn't score that many goals, but managed to win the games they needed to win. This was a project Gaute had built from the ground up, getting promotion from OBOS to the top flight in 2020, just like Geir Bakke with Lillestrøm, and had worked hard over time to improve Tromsø as a team. That 3rd place finish was their best one in many years. And he took Jostein Gundersen with him to Bodø/Glimt. Jostein Gundersen, who probably was Tromsø's very best Center back that the team was built around. Jostein Gundersen's contributions to Tromsø in the 2023 season is a huge reason why Tromsø conceded the least amount of goals in 2023. Had he stayed at Tromsø, he probably would've been their captain by now. But nope, Jostein Gundersen and Gaute Helstrup go together to Bodø/Glimt on the same day for a transfer sum of 0. That's right, they went to Bodø/Glimt from tromsø, for free. And as the Norwegian season of 2024 has now started, Tromsø have started the season horrendusley as their defensive wall has been completely broken. 5 games and 0 points. 16th place, last place with a fear of relegation. Should Tromsø get relagated this season, no doubt a huge amount of blame will be put on Bodø/Glimt yoinking their manager and best center back. Bodø/Glimt didn't even need a head coach, like we'd only lost an assistant coach. Morten Kalvenes who went with Per Mathias Høgmo to Urawa red diamonds in Japan. That's right, Gaute Helstrup decided to abandon his job as head coach of Tromsø and join Kjetil Knutsen in Bodø/Glimt as an assistant coach. Like, imagine if Jürgen Klopp would join Erik Ten Hag tomorrow as an assistant coach. That's the feeling. And Tromsø fans are pissed. I'm looking forward to this season's away game against Tromsø, and I'm slightly worried about it as well. What will the TIFO look like from the Tromsø fans? How vile will it look?
Maurice Johnson signing for Rangers was despicable. Chased a return to celtic after leaving for nantes 12 months earlier. When celtic followed up his requests he was paraded at celtic park wearing celtic strip shaking the managers hand declaring his love for celtic only to sign for Rangers 48 hours later. A total rat
Mo Johnston signing for Rangers after teasing his former club Celtic is always a hilarious transfer story. He made the right choice. His medal collection will tell you that. People outside of Scotland dont know how crazy a situation that truly was. 😂
As a Gooner i absolutely hold no animosity for Van Persie at all. He was always injured, had 1 great season, and he and the club cashed in. Then went on to have 1 more great season before he faded away. Was sad but it made sense for us as a club at the time. PS ref Cole- people need to listen to David Dein's chat about it in an interview- Dein admits it wasn't Cole's fault but the club's.
At the end of the day though football is just a job and they need to think about income as they get older hence any player who leaves for more money shouldn’t be downed upon there just trying to secure a future as you only work as a footballer from 16 to 35 max
Funny how some minor transfers in EPL are in top6 but actual serious stuff like Bayern poaching Dortmund players and crippling them for foreseeable future got no mention :D
Luis Figo wasn't paid like a star at Barcelona, others arrived and earned more money, he wasn't respected by the management, he was the most regular player in Spain.
It was Arsenal who refused to extend the contract for louis van persie. Both manchester united and manchester city was trying to sign him from which he chose united. He refused to celebrate his goal against arsenal in united colours. But the arsenal fans burned his jersey anf in the next.match lvp scored and had his crazy celebration
You forgot Messi vs his fans. After a lot of outstanding performances at Barcelona, backed by a team of world class players, he amassed a huge fan following. He then decided to go play in the 6th and 15th best leagues against inferior opposition. His fans , too proud to admit great players don't play in lower leagues at that age, kept up the charade that a guy in the MLS is the greatest ever. Fifa went along with it, also giving a guy in these lower leagues, an unprecedented Fifa player of the year and 2 Ballon Dors.
There is nothing called exchanging "glory of Catalunia" to "better money of Mardid". Its exchanging "Some random patch of glory in Catalunia" to "being part of the legacy of the most successful team in Spain and in Europe" and getting better money while doing so.
I understand these kind of cases, these players don´t care if they play for Barça or Real. Man Utd or Liverpool, they are not fans the club like the real fans. They just want play football and make money.
i thought arsenal management betrayed him for not offering renewal when persie and his agent are waiting. then sir alex heard about the news and sign him. His love for Arsenal was still there untill fans burnt his jersey and called him names. he didnt celebrate his goal against arsenal, he showed respect but the fans brutally hurt his feeling.
11:25 that is why Serie A has become failure now, not the same as 90s where world class player will be at, they would rather play at EPL or LaLiga, also Calciopoli cases 😏😏
baggio never wanted to go to juve even refusing to put on the scarf from the club but fiorentina needed the money And figo always were a sellout, leaving sporting he sign for 2 clubs at the same time, big problem solved with a quick move to barcelona
There isn't a betrayal when it comes to the profession. Clubs pay salaries based on contracts. If the atmosphere and salaries do not meet my expectations, or if other clubs offer higher salaries and a better environment, I, as a professional, need to move on. Rivalries are created by clubs for hype, and that hype generates more money. There is no such thing as betrayal; if there were, none of us could change companies for a better salary or opportunity throughout our entire lives. As a football professional, one can earn until middle age; after that, their market value tends to decrease significantly. So-called fans will start praising other players who are performing well at the moment.
He didn't go from Inter to AC Milan, but to Inter to Barça and then to AC Milan. It was far worse go from Juve to Inter. The guy was always a mercenary
you didnt mention how before leaving arsenal VP was lredy hated by the fans, it was the fans that practically forced him out, regardless though he was beloved by the united fans and he often watches them play.
well betrayal is a big word, can be applied to figo or campbell or maybe cole, but not for nazario or rvp for sure. It more applies to gotze and lewandowski than it does to them.
IMO it’s Barcelona who “betray” their star players.. like Figo. Barcelona lure them in using the prestige of the club.. and once they are signed, they are treated like crap, and do not get the wages they deserve. So it’s Barcas fault.
Every single player has targets and desires that fans are unaware of, none of them owe you or your club anything. They’ve worked through years to get to being professional players, once there they earn wages that are decided by the club and the players representatives, yes they earn serious money but beyond that they have a right to follow their own goals. Stop thinking they share your love for your club, they don’t, they want wages and medals, can’t provide those? Unlucky, they’ll move.
The difference between cases like figo and all the other ones and the case schuster is: every one of the big judas did betray one club for ONEY RIVAL. Schuster: one? Hold my beer. I do it 3 times. Cologne barca real athletico leverkusen.
No no no sorry but the biggest 2 Judas' in football history are Mario Götze and Mats Hummels. The former because he ripped out Dortmunds heart, betrayed his best friend Reus whom he lured to Dortmund one year earlier and ultimately cost Dortmund the Champions League as there was too much commotion surrounding the final. Despite his world cup winning goal against Argentina, Götze will forever be Judas, a betrayer and a backstabber. Hummels on the other hand left Dortmund for arch rivals Bayern AS DORTMUND CAPTAIN! You dont go to the arch rival as the captain of your team that is an absolute nono for me. He supposedly left because of his stupid wife who was from Munich and then came crying back to Dortmund after he cheated on HER. Dortmund payed more to get him back way past his zenith than what they got when they sold him to Bayern. Which makes Dortmund ultimately stupid to pay up to get this traitor back.
Timing was horrible too. Won 2 Championships with your Boyhood club and being in a CL Semi Final only to move teams to the team that your loyal fan base hates the most
Well they are pro players ....they have no obligation to a certain club just because the fans feel that way. It is a very romantic way of looking at things.
I don’t see any betrayals here. Just players moving clubs to make more money. The fans usually aren’t loyal to players anyway. One miss and they start yelling slurs so nothing here
Van Persie spent most of his Arsenal career lying on the massage table. Arsene Wenger caused van Persie to leave (in my opinion) by making a dumb substitution during a critical game against Manure. I also blame Wenger for the Ashley Cole disaster

A few betrayals in Norway could give all these 6 a run for their money. Now, I'm a Bodø/Glimt fan. So I'm actively enjoying some of these betrayals. What's even crazier is that these ones happened in the span of just a couple of months with just the last 2 transfer windows. In no particular order:
1. Geir Bakke from Lillestrøm to Vålerenga in the summer 2023
2. Daniel Bassi from Tromsø to Bodø/Glimt, summer 2023
3. Jostein Gundersen from Tromsø to Bodø/Glimt, early winter 2024
4. Gaute Helstrup from Tromsø to Bodø/Glimt, early winter 2024
5. August Mikkelsen from Hammarby to Bodø/Glimt deadline day 2024
Irrelevant
I ain’t reading allat
How can you forget Bernd Schuster? 😂
Luis Figo = Johnny Damon of football!
Who?
@@Randomaccount9470 the 7 likes in my comment tells you how you need to explore more into the sports world
I know Johnny Damon only because I am from North America. Europeans do not follow baseball bro.
A total rat
felt like a netflix documentary, keep up the good work 👍
van persie wanted to win trophies....that wasn't possible at arsenal
Mo Johnston signing for Rangers after teasing his former club Celtic is always a hilarious transfer story. He made the right choice. His medal collection will tell you that. People outside of Scotland dont know how crazy a situation that truly was. 😂
Also I’m surprised they didn’t mention Torres to Chelsea from Liverpool where El Niño had his greatest spells.
Carlos Tevez
United to City.
As a United fan I still love Tevez
As a Gooner i absolutely hold no animosity for Van Persie at all. He was always injured, had 1 great season, and he and the club cashed in. Then went on to have 1 more great season before he faded away. Was sad but it made sense for us as a club at the time.
PS ref Cole- people need to listen to David Dein's chat about it in an interview- Dein admits it wasn't Cole's fault but the club's.
I mean 2 great seasons didnt have have two back to back 30 goal seasons for arsenal?
@@MortanAMrk My bad, I was only thinking of his final season. My bad.
At the end of the day though football is just a job and they need to think about income as they get older hence any player who leaves for more money shouldn’t be downed upon there just trying to secure a future as you only work as a footballer from 16 to 35 max
No surprise all these players left Arsenal for other clubs as they weren't gonna win anything at Arsenal
Figo doesn't hate FCB, he just love Football. Period.
Again, RVP is a great player, but his attitude controlling capacity is quite low.
I understand these kind of cases, these players don´t care if they play for Barça or Real. Man Utd or Liverpool, they are not fans the club like the real fans. They just want play football and make money.
Cole almost crashed his car in a fit of rage after only being offered £50,000 a week 😂😂
i thought arsenal management betrayed him for not offering renewal when persie and his agent are waiting. then sir alex heard about the news and sign him. His love for Arsenal was still there untill fans burnt his jersey and called him names. he didnt celebrate his goal against arsenal, he showed respect but the fans brutally hurt his feeling.
Crazy how the fans were angry with van persie and figo just because they burned their shirts.
11:25 that is why Serie A has become failure now, not the same as 90s where world class player will be at, they would rather play at EPL or LaLiga, also Calciopoli cases 😏😏
baggio never wanted to go to juve even refusing to put on the scarf from the club but fiorentina needed the money
And figo always were a sellout, leaving sporting he sign for 2 clubs at the same time, big problem solved with a quick move to barcelona
Where's Dennis Law? He won UCL with Manchester United and later relegated them playing for Manchester City
Campbell won one of the last Tottenham trophies
1 season rvp, cashley cole, samir cashri... Oh Arsenal, Arsene trusted too much on its youth but players gave no loyalty..
I can’t stand the fact that Barca turned on Figo when he wanted to stay and people still shit on him for it.
I notice u don't mention all the times a club betrayed a player which happens way more.
Heavens forbid if someone goes to another job for more money
Cruyff to Feyenoord was bigger than all of this video
No it wasn't 😂
He's still considered a legend at Ajax 💯
Mo Johnstone signing for Rangers is the biggest by far; WATP 🇬🇧
van persie was never offered a new contract and when he went to man utd he didnt celabrate untill fans started hating him
Why is nobody talking about ibra like bro inter milan to ac milan?????????????
And don't forget he was at Juve before
He didn't go from Inter to AC Milan, but to Inter to Barça and then to AC Milan. It was far worse go from Juve to Inter. The guy was always a mercenary
This video is proof that football legends go in the history books
Mario Götze vom BVB zu FC Bayern. Zur schlimmsten Zeit vor dem ChL Finale wurde es bekannt.
Ever heard of Bernd Schuster? Apparently not… he fucked up in Spain and Germany
Where is Johan Cruijff ? Ajax - Feyenoord. One of the most insane transfers, he made Feyenoord Champions of the Dutch League.
you didnt mention how before leaving arsenal VP was lredy hated by the fans, it was the fans that practically forced him out, regardless though he was beloved by the united fans and he often watches them play.
well betrayal is a big word, can be applied to figo or campbell or maybe cole, but not for nazario or rvp for sure. It more applies to gotze and lewandowski than it does to them.
IMO it’s Barcelona who “betray” their star players.. like Figo. Barcelona lure them in using the prestige of the club.. and once they are signed, they are treated like crap, and do not get the wages they deserve. So it’s Barcas fault.
guess Fernando Torres' move from Liverpool to Chelsea was just child's play
Liverpool and Chelsea aren't even rivals
What about Berghuis to Ajax?
How does he not have 10k subs 😂😂❤❤
But figo was forced and he was sad to leave Barca tho
Paul Ince is loved even though he played for Liverpool and United
Barça fans are savages. Figo joined the better club, although Perez is a pirate too.
A new traitor : Dembele !
Victim role: Barca fans
Everything is temporary but
Burning jersey is permanent 😂😂😂
You can Micheal Owen to this list.
Once you played for Liverpool you can't play for Manchester United.
funny you did not have Micheal Laudrup hes move was way more crazy then Figo.
Won 2 Championships with your Boyhood club and being in a CL Semi Final only to move teams to the team that your loyal fan base hates the most
You forgot boca juniors legend Carlos Tevez ( man united to man city)
Nowadays we can probably add Adrien Rabbiot to this list
RVP to Manutd was rough
Michael Laudrup - From Barca to Real 😂
Well they are pro players ....they have no obligation to a certain club just because the fans feel that way. It is a very romantic way of looking at things.
R9 WAS ALSO PLAYED FOR BARCA & REAL
Not consecutive
You forgot Cesc Fabregas-Arsenal-FC Barcelona saga
What about Neuer to Bayern from Schalke?
Nah, Dortmund and Schalke are rivals
I don’t see any betrayals here. Just players moving clubs to make more money. The fans usually aren’t loyal to players anyway. One miss and they start yelling slurs so nothing here
You don't get it. It's ok 😂😂
Business… Just business. Passion is for the cheerers.
Figo went there won UCL 🎉🎉🎉. Suck it barca. Put a lid on it. Hala Madrid😂😂😂😂😂😂
Wot bout lewandowski leaving Dortmund for bayern
The biggest traitor is Michael Owen Scouser boy from Liverpool betrayed the club and moved to Manchester United the most hated rival
Van Persie spent most of his Arsenal career lying on the massage table. Arsene Wenger caused van Persie to leave (in my opinion) by making a dumb substitution during a critical game against Manure. I also blame Wenger for the Ashley Cole disaster
