This week, Ginny, Mike and Tom shoot the electric breeze on a variety of subjects, including World Car of the Year, the long-awaited return of the Ford Explorer and Omoda's arrival in the UK . The team also answer listeners' questions to help them find the perfect electric car.
If you have a car buying question or want to be included in our postbag, add your comment below or message us at info@electrifying.com.
Every week, the Electrifying.com meet online to discuss all the important matters at hand. Such as the weather, what we’re all having for our tea and who dumped who in last night’s Love Island. Between these heavyweight subjects, we also talk about electric cars. A lot. Probably an unhealthy amount to be honest.
And when we do discuss cars, we find out a lot. From industry gossip to the more mundane practicalities of electric car ownership, it’s the place where we dish the dirt on the cars we’ve been driving and deliver our own verdicts on the latest electric car news. We also like to have a good laugh at the daftest bits of anti-electric news that we’ve seen in the press.
We can’t promise that you’ll learn much. You probably won’t. But if you fancy 30 minutes of idle chat and gossip about the world of electric cars, we’re here for you. If you like it / hate it / think it’s too long or too short, let us know. Авто/Мото

Growling noise coming out of the Leaf ? That’s an easy fix, turn the radio UP, sorted !!
A simple test for a failing wheel bearing is to hold the middle of the suspension spring with one hand, while turning the wheel with the other hand. If the bearing is rumbling, the vibration is amplified by the spring, so can be felt by your hand.
Great listen! Thanks
Very nice Tom and Nicola 🙂
Thanks for the shout out and yes the weather is superb.
Re insurance, it doesn't matter what the previous driver did, its on the make, age of the car and you yourself (age and drivers). Most dealers offer at least six months guarantee. Buying private you take the chance!
Luckily we haven't had a car stolen but the insurance would probably pay you out and up your franchise.
HAha! The Grandland preview made me chuckle... As a current Grandland owner who is about to hand it back for an ID.4, I'll be interested to see if the new Grandland can tempt me back in 3 years time.
Thank you. 🙂
YEaaaah, :)
More fun and info to enter the weekend, thanks.
We had a test drive in the Dolphin (design). Had Android auto, worked perfectly. And we were surprised about 0 to 100kmh, fast enough for us, and that was just eco mode..
I saw an Ora at a car park and the same - like hey this is about the size of a Corolla!
I think what Tom is trying to say it's Stellantis and it's the same as everything else they own !!
I sat in a Ora 03 (aka Funky Cat) at Gridserve Braintree and was surprised at the quality feel and the interior space
you must be the only one
Braintree also has an Ora dealership …
I wouldn't buy a Citroen - friend had a one year old E-C4 Shine plus and whilst it looked good, its range was under 100 miles on a full charge, went into Citreon who hadn't got a clue. They had the car for over FOUR months! Their dealers just dont have the local people on the ground who know EV's and honestly, they were truly appalling. Car was sold soon after due to having no confidence in the car or dealer network if something went wrong.
Alfa Romeo is no longer Milan its Junior now , they nailed it with new name 😂😂😂
Junior has two meanings, obviously it means someone younger, and maybe they are saying this is a youthful car?...
But it also means someone of lower rank or status, so could it be misinterpreted as a car not as good as other cars? 🤔
There are loads of Italian words they could have picked... I would have gone for "Ridarella", which is what people will do if you say you drive a Junior (I hope Ridarella means what I think it does, or I could have egg on my face) 😂
If the Milano looks like it’s been in an accident then the Ora wears a look of surprise like it’s been shunted from behind
Miss you Ginny. Nicola is fun too !
As ever I enjoy this and look forward to a Saturday morning treat.
The first comment is I entirely get Nicola’s rush to put on electrical load when the PV or wind come on stream. We have been doing that for about a year. We are lucky enough to have some battery storage which we are adding to on Monday. If you live where renewables are practical to install you really can fill up for free (after the capital costs).
The second point was the slight disappointment with the new Alfa Romeo Milano. I am hoping the handling will make up for a lot of other shortcomings. However the indicative pricing suggests it is not competitive with the equivalent Geely platforms from Volvo, Smart, and Geely itself with Zeekr. The jury is out whether it copes with BMW’s sub brand Mini. What I would really like Alfa to do is some sort of 4WD which is seriously quick or sub 4 sec 0-60.
Tesla do s need to do the smaller car.
12:14 The number of manufacturers that feel the need to make their front grill some alternate version of Darth Vader's mask. smh
Comment for the algorithm
With regard to auto lane keeping options, when will manufacturers offer auto pot hole avoidance options.
I live in the north of England and regularly use the M6 and M56, which is full of pot holes. The automatic lane keeping option will keep you in the centre of your lane, however this is where the pot holes reside.
Abuse from the Tesla army. What's new? They all want him to witness them and all he sees are ants.
The BYD distribution model seems to be broken at the moment which is why their cars are clogging up UK and European ports. This will probably continue as long as they rely on third party dealer who hike up the price of their cars.
Great episode, and well done Tom for battling on with your chest infection... You deserve a lollipop for being a brave little soldier. Also love the 'Bargain of the Week' feature 👍🏻
Wasn't the ICE Frontier a bit on the slow side back in the day? Looking forward to seeing the grandland now 😏
Cadillac... Oooo fancy 😁
Regulations on motor insurance pricing changed in 2021. Firms now can't offer a higher premium at renewal than they would offer the same customer as a new customer (there are details but that's the basic rule). You should still shop around, but generally new customer and renewal prices are much closer across the market than they use to be.
The Cadillac is not bad
Your weekly perspective is super helpful, especially since you cover cars we don't get here in the USA. I do hope you can maintain an air of criticality. Sometimes the Press Junket machine turns journalists into cheerleaders and ultimately, other than owner surveys, the car industry sucks at self reflection. They rely on you guys to tell them things like, "you're profitability is in question building small cars. We've looked. It's not looking promising. Yet the early EV adopters who shelled out large for overpriced EVs are savvy, we've taught them well, and they know it's really unsustainable to replace your car every three years. What's the long term plan to make these EVs more sustainable, more affordable, and shouldn't you focus more of your attention on helping communities build electric rail?"
Milano's front looks... Vinfast!
When looking at 2nd hand BEVs can you get things like charging speeds upgraded when the manufacturers offered differing ones when new? Thinking of a Enyaq 80 and if I go for one with 100kw charging can it be upgraded to 125kw for own benefit and future proofing the vehicle when it comes to sell it again - thanks
So, the Ford Explorer is available to configure and order I believe. Will you be reviewing one of these any time soon? It's on my list to consider, along with the countryman, EX30, Kia EV3 if its out and maybe the Ford Puma EV if its ever launched?
Always a pleasure to listen!
I had a shocking insurance renewal quote but shopped around and paid less than last year. I renewed 30 days prior to expiry of my policy.my car is now over ten years old and the low value of my car may also help
Regarding electric trucks and charging, it's not all going to be electrified overnight. Everyone needs to remember that the grid and charging infrastructure will have time to adapt to the growing demands placed upon them.
I like the Milano more than it's sister cars
Insurance renewal date wise. I think Martin Lewis said 23 days before renewal was the best time to look elsewhere for a better quote
Isn't it a little bit ironical that Nicola is not a big fan of Tesla?
It’s not a £25k car from Tesla it’s a $25k American car so £30+ car and sub $40k car for Australia
😂 Mingging
Can you recommend an EV that is less likely to be damaged by potholes?
The state of the roads these days I think you would need a GMC Hummer EV or Munro MK_1 😂
😂
Nicola- why are you trying to hide behind the mike?
🤣
Mike wasn't on this episode, I think he is on holiday, LOL 😂🤣

For HGV some are looking at fitting batteries to trailers to support longer distance travel. These can be dropped and swapped to charge up longer. They could be retro fitted to existing ones. Also allows trailers to be moved around depot without a tractor unit.
TESLA HAVE A ROBOTAXI REVEAL on 8/08 THIS YEAR AND THE 25 K CAR IS STILL COMING SO SAY ELON :)
We need wind farms all over

The controversy around the new Alfa Romeo, is interesting. The hybrid has a different grill, which is way better….traditional. Alfa has always produced some controversial cars, but overall, memorable. Calm down!
Continue I'm back
This afternoon the local VW dealer rang to ask if we still wanted to buy a IDBuzz, I didn't ask about prices, but a few weeks back no deals as VW apparently don't allow dealers to do their own deals.
Your opinion is wrong generally the milano alfa looks amazing only problem is the power output is too low for a sporty looking alfa
Not sure you can say they are wrong as looks are subjective. Personally I'm inclined to agree with them, the front looks awful. Side and rear pretty good
Masses of unsold Chinese EVs are piling up and blocking European Ports
The Electric Viking
Excellent we only want good EV's and not those that contribute to an anti western dictatorship and military build up. They can go to the Australians.
Haulage trucks will never become electric due the battery weight plus the goods being transported. They will not have the range as the regenerative brakes will not be used enough on motorways and so will not be financially viable
No Nicola, I'd say Tesla is hurting badly. Their lead has been squandered, while they focused on the stupid Cybertruck, and now they can't sell all the cars they can build. The competition has caught up. I'm not saying a $25k Tesla is possible or profitable, especially a no-compromise Tesla. The billionaire bad boss won't accept a Tesla with cheap door handles, manual simple seats, or absent stupid self-driving crapola. Tesla is not in a great place. Tesla have Overcapacity and are heavily vertically integrated. The also don't have other types of car production to fall back to as electric car pricing was crashed (by Tesla).
Couldn't disagree more. No one has caught up as far as profits are concerned. The only two firms in the world that make money on EV's are Tesla and BYD. The self driving tech in the US has improved dramatically and will end up saving many live. RUclips: FSD 12.3.4
This guys auto taste is in his ..s he spent the first several minutes talking up the nissan leaf
I really like the look of the Alfa! Certainly far better looking than the Fiat 600e.
100% agree, and I am not that offended by the front.
100%. I think the blacked out Alfa grille and the moody lighting didn’t help how the front end looked. Might well look better outside and perhaps there’s an option for a more blingy grille?
Tesla Just WON. The Endgame Is Here.

Loads of crap is going on not just cars on the planet
Tired of Elon. In a decent world there would be no Elons or Trump or Boris or Putin etc etc etc.
Got bored with the high percentage of “fill in waffle”. For news I prefer a bit less prattle. Give us a headline list, then move quickly from topic to topic.
Please tell me your single or I’m unsubscribing 😅
It's very irritating trying to see a face hidden behind a huge microphone. The lads have got it just right
...not a fan of Nicola - period 👎. Yeah I know, it's not a nice thing to say, but really... She gives off far too much of a Chris Evans vibe for my money. Dial back the (seemingly) fake enthusiasm, it's just a bit too much.
@@matbowden9156 Tell us you don't get out much in the fresh air, without telling us you don't get out much 🙂
@@matbowden9156 I for one like the entire team, they all have their unique presence on screen, if I were to complain about anything, there is not enough of Nicola on screen... I mean the 5 golden rules for buying an electric car could have have 2 or 3 more Nicola's in my opinion. 😂
Also the Nicki / Nicola head to head reviews are always fun too.
Not wanting to favour N&N, Ginny, Tom and Mike are great too, an amazing team churning out informative, yet fun, insights to the world of electric cars.
Alas... I still drive a diesel 😢 but have seen several cars of interest on this channel thanks to the team.
Too much? Or is that just the right amount of grovelling 🤪
Disagree! It’s a podcast first and foremost, so audio is the name of the game. The fact they then film it too is just an added bonus for us. So Nicola’s setup with a half decent condenser mic makes perfect sense, a much more controlled sound compared to Toms thinner sounding AirPod with the room noise. And personally I think Nicola is an awesome presenter, probably one of the best on RUclips in my opinion. Keeps it fun and informative, a win win! Give the girl Top Gear and she’d probably help make it great again!
@virtualgeezer Most of their output is on RUclips and it's where I see and hear everything. On RUclips watching it on the TV it's a very different experience and the two male presenters have the best quality visuals and audio. Silly? on the other hand often has video quality bordering on the unwatchable at times
ev's are for obese retired old age pensioners who have free time, Not for busy working people, for this reason 60% of working people will never buy an EV, because of busy lifestyle and public chargers costs 3 times more than petrol and long waiting time winter range and cold anxiety and octopus energy increasing your peak rate to 43p kwh if you are on ev rate thus even more higher energy bills
The only thing you’re right about is that public chargers are too bloody expensive. That’s why I only use them for infrequent longer journeys.
ROFL. Gbnews/daily mail,express reader alert
The public charging costs are ridiculous I agree
