But what looks like rubbish is more prized than ever as a commodity: stainless steel.Demand is currently higher than the combined production of all the mines in the world. Scrapyards are becoming tomorrow's commodities sources. MADE IN GERMANY visits the"above-ground mine".

    Interesting report. But do they really pick out the contaminants manually? Do they have a more systematic way to sort out the contaminants? Wish they have show more of that.

    Much of it is ' production scrap ', scrap direct from steel manufacturing plants, left over material from the manufacturing of steel products.

    At least Germany still had steelworks. God help Germany now Merkel's got back in.
