  • I have no idea if this is the right thing to do or not. Really don't know what to do today, so I'm going to try sharing some memories. I mainly want people to know what a thoughtful, caring, intelligent person Chris was, and I thought I would just share a few stories about the times we spent together. I will miss him, so much, forever.

I wanted to share something amazing. I got to sit with Steve Vai last night for a bit, after he played at the Malibu Guitar Festival. I'm so glad I went- I wasn't going to, but I made myself go. He was so kind. This is a guy that I have looked up to since I was 12 years old, he's kind of a beacon of light in this business- in music- how to live your life as a creative person and be successful.. he should write a book. Anyways, he sat with me and told me he knew I was close with Chris, and said "you know, you can still have a relationship with him- when you think of him, just try and smile.. it's too soon now, but as soon as you can, try and smile when you think of him, because it will automatically make you think of good memories, the good times with him". I really needed to hear that last night and it's such great wisdom. And I think we should all try and do that. Thank you Steve Vai from the bottom of my heart.

I don't know Mr. Vai, but judging from his always thoughtful responses during interviews etc. I'm not surprised one bit that he would be a real voice of reason. I am incredibly sorry for your personal loss. Anyone who grew up with Chris's music had a special bond to his words. You had a far greater bond with him. Be glad you were lucky. There are 7.2 Billion people on Earth, and you were one of the lucky few who got to say they knew him. When you're ready, smile about that.

Personal relationships and stories are far more important to convey then all the tabloid garbage you normally get when something like this happens. Through emotions, sharing them, talkin' about them, even I go to my awesome psychologist, some cool therapies, this is my way. It is very sad, that many people just hide their inner fears and sadness. I wish to all of us pure souls, pure emotions, cuz when we ar pure before us, then we can go to the next doors. I composed song about my father called Angel and I'm so happy, that Pete is here and he talk about everything also. RIP Chris! Man with beautiful soul! :)

This was so incredible to hear. I've been at such a loss since yesterday. I've lost a couple of very close family members the same (almost eerily) exact way, and struggled with suicidality almost my entire life. Naturally with that history, anyone would be upset over this news. But loving so much of Chris's art, this cut deep. I have never cried so much or physically felt so grief stricken over someone I didn't know personally. But this video... gave me a smile, and only reassured how grounded and genuine of an artist he was. I partied hard and jammed -almost- too hard at a stuffy concert hall venue this past summer. A part of me was almost embarrassed that I loved so much of that show- but now my only regrets are not showing love more and not seeing a show where you played, too. Thanks so much for sharing such intimate moments, and I so wish I could give you a hug. Healing vibes sent your way. Thanks so much for being vulnerable and sharing so much love to the giant community that loved Chris for everything he was.

Hard to believe when someone just disappears like... forever. You did good in sharing and honoring his big heart with your memories. Thank you for doing this, Pete. I'm so very sorry for your, our, loss. The way you speak of him makes it so apparent that he was a great friend to you. I only knew Chris as fan, but his death really hit hard because his music was very much a part of my life's soundtrack. Every song is attached to moments in my life. When I hear them, my mind kind of transports me back to that time and place whether it be a happy moment or even a sad one. That is the power of good music I guess.
As an aspiring guitarist, I look up to your skills and your work ethic as a goal to reach. Chris gives me that same inspiration as an aspiring vocalist. In my opinion he has the perfect male voice with a range most mortals will only dream about. Few can convey emotion in every note they sing.
I'll stop blabbering now, just know that musicians like yourself and Chris leave lasting impressions on your fans. By doing what you do, you can't ever truly leave this Earth. As long as they make music players, the bounds of mortal life can't limit you.
    Take care.

At this point, I would hope, and hopefully should expect, that the remaining members of the Seattle scene will get together and produce a tribute to Chris that echos, equals, and possibly surpasses the tribute that Chris and friends gave to Andrew Wood. Temple of the Dog was one of the most beautiful musical eulogies ever written, produced, and published. Chris is worthy of the same. And this tribute has the potential to "Reach Down and Pick the World Up" to include the extended family that Chris had developed over the years. Just a thought. Not for profit, but for respect. It would be a beautiful thing.

Much love to you Pete, you're a standup guy yourself and a great musician also. Chris was phenomenally talented, so take solace in the fact you were in that category of musician to be able to play with him. He was the vocal soundtrack for my life from a 14-year-old boy to the 35-year-old man I am now, and although I didn't have the pleasure of knowing him personally like yourself, he was omnipresent in my life through music and I kinda grew up with him always there in that respect, and the sadness I have felt the last week is proof you don't have to know someone personally to care about them, especially when they influence your life in such a positive way. All the best to you Pete and keep on rockin, 'Be Yourself, It's All That You Can Do'. ...Rest In Peace, Chris.

Pete, thank you so much for sharing these stories. I can see how your experiences with Chris have shaped who you are. A few years ago I had a chance to do some work locally demoing some guitars for a guy who had a vintage guitar store. I tracked down your email for some advice about how much to charge and a few other things. At the time I had an attitude of "I've got nothing to lose...emailing Pete Thorn." And you emailed me back the same day. That blew me away. And to top it off, you gave me some really great advice and insight...because that's the kind of guy YOU are. You and Chris's family are in my prayers. Everyone here can, to some degree, understand that you will need time to grieve this. Take your time. Keeping talking to other friends and musicians about Chris. Thanks for helping us know Chris a little bit better, and to get a chance to smile or laugh at some of those great memories. We needed it too. Peace.

Thank you for sharing your heart with us. I am so very sorry for the loss of your friend Chris Cornell. When I watched this, I didn't want the stories to end. I can listen forever of such memories. It would be great if we could get more of this from those who had touching relationships with him. I'm pretty sure it is the first time that I have smiled in regards to anything about Chris since the day he left. So again, thank for that, it is much needed. I won't go on about how his music touched me throughout many years of my life because we all know how uniquely special he is. What I will briefly mention is the show that you referred to at the Ventura Theater! I was there, my first time seeing Chris live. It was absolutely amazing. I thought that all of you in the band were great, really great, but of course nothing but the best for Chris

That era of Chris Cornell and your band was the most amazing era. I saw him in Soundgarden twice before they split. Was amazing. Saw him with Audioslave. Amazing. With you guys, his solo band, I saw you guys a few times, every time was Awesome and he seemed really happy and you guys were always on point. I know many will disagree but to me that was the best I ever witnessed. It was the best of Cornell, from Soundgarden, Audioslave, and solo material, and you guys made it amazing. Thank you.

Thank u Bill, I have so much respect for SG and for the Audioslave guys, as well as Alain and everyone involved in creating Euphoria Morning and his catalog of solo material, we really just tried to do our best to play the songs that those guys created, as well as we could, so Chris could present music from his whole career. It was an honor to play the music.

Cornell quit highschool cuz of depression 35 years ago and it finally got him. 3 docs with over 110 years experience have all said: "No one has survived as much as you have for this many decades, especially with no help." I'm sorry for the loss of your friend, I truly am. It is a huge loss. Know that so many people have been affected by his passing. I actually feel a part of me is missing now. Strange, huh? It's possible that I feel this way because he sang about what I was feeling as well.
I remember seeing Chris in '89 with Soundgarden at City Gardens in N.J. The show was awesome. I recall thinking how young he looked although he was a year older than me. What I loved most was you could see how passionate he was about the music. It was wonderful to experience.
Regretfully, I never had the pleasure of meeting him, but I felt as though I knew him anyway. I related very much to the lyrics and the intensity of the music. There are some parallels between our lives. This is what kept me an admirer of his. The feeling was that he was singing for me and others who had no outlet for their feelings and emotions.
*Sigh* Anyway Pete, I wish you well. Thank you so much for sharing about your times with Chris. ✌

You have a point but a very small point. Very few know the pros and cons like me and i can tell you that 3/4 of the time a better diet ,hydration(as insane as that sounds) and excerise can help so much. It is SO easy to throw your brains chemical compound off and we cross paths with these things daily. Red food coloring can do crazy things to a person, particularly young people. But of course many still need meds. Chris was a recovering addict and ativan was the very last thing he needed. Fuck these dr's for giving it to him.VERY powerful drug and has been rid of in many areas such as mine. They literally hospitalized tons of people and detoxed them......that should tell us all the dangers of this "medicine"

Bravo, you are a fighter as Chris Cornell was.
What you say about medicines, some people don't want to hear it.
But the victims of medicine are a lot and ready.
Their family and doctors against industrial madness too.
Psychiatrists have long-known that benzodiazepines can cause addiction and brain damage.
If one person feel sad and you give to him a toxic substance, it can not get better!
We know it with heroin, we know it with benzodiazepines.
      Here an interesting article
The fact is that anxiety is not an illness, and drugs that dissipate anxiety are not medications - they are drugs.
Anxiety is not an illness. It is a normal human response to ambiguous or potentially challenging or dangerous situations.
People who take these drugs as a routine measure to insulate themselves from life’s multi-variate challenges and vicissitudes are not medicated. They are stoned.
And the great irony here is that everybody knows this.
The individuals know it; their family members know it; their friends and co-workers know it; the psychiatrists themselves know it. And the street pushers who obtain benzos illegally know it.
no practitioners could prescribe these drugs as a daily “treatment” for anxiety if psychiatry had not, in the first place, promoted the false message that anxiety is an illness.
No doctor could prescribe these products for these purposes if psychiatry had not invented, packaged, and sold their various anxiety “diagnoses.”
When psychiatry embarked on its great mission to medicalize every conceivable human problem, they basically drove the bus off the cliff .
Mental health today is still in a state of uncontrolled free fall.
And every time we hit an outcropping, or the bus turns end over end, psychiatry says:
“Oh dear! How did that happen?”
Well it happened because organized psychiatry put money and prestige above intellectual and moral integrity.
The damage this has done, and continues to do, is beyond reckoning.
      (end)
What happens with them it is exactly what happens with banks : humans = numbers = money

Chris did this for the life of Andrew Wood and now you are doing it for Chris. You had a rare experience with Chris most of us could only dream about.. and you shared it. Thanks man. I know what you mean, the world can be so cynical these days, it's just overwhelming. And people say things from behind a keyboard they'd never say to someone's face, which is sad. But I believe most people out there, by far, are good people! Chris was a great guy with a big heart and he treated everyone with respect, which was always really heartwarming to see. there was a guy on our crew for awhile that was a 'survivalist' type guy- stockpiling ammo and supplies in the woods for some coming apocalypse he believed was inevitable- preparing a fortress to escape to. Chris told me, "if that happened, wouldn't you want to stay behind and help old people, and sick people?" Yup. he was like that.

Pete, I hope you keep sharing these unique stories that no one of us will ever be able to experience. I have been digging and downloading several live outakes of Chris (and you!) performing songs from his Scream album which... to me is my favorite album. It really shows a side of him musically I had never seen. I was never a huge Soundgarden fan and that is just me being honest. I was hugely into Mother Love Bone and Alice in Chains. Somehow when I was going thru my divorce his Scream album just spoke volumes to me. And Im not a new fan of Chris'. Ive known about him since early days of Soundgarden and Temple of the Dog. Im 45 and as much as I dont want to admit this Ive been selective over what songs of his blew me away. It was hit or miss but somehow with him being gone now each song takes on new meaning for me. For some odd reason. i am rediscovering Soundgarden and even some odd Audioslave stuff that is now hitting me differently yet positively. Thanks for sharing another story of Chris bc it gives me the though that he saw a much bigger picture and his heart seemed huge. i only saw him live once and it was in Des Moines, IA during his solo tour. i have since seen a ton of live Scream outakes and have to say man, you play the guitar fantastically and its a real honor to share thoughts with ya. I hope during this time of loss you realize you are being thought of. Please take care.
