This is awesome. Im a generation x and just tried Kava and it feels so mild, natural, and normal, yet very relaxing and good for focus. Sleeping after this is very gentle and restful. I like this presentation.
Awesome, thank you Chase, I am growing kava in Samoa where it's known as Ava, as you say, each variety has a slightly different effect, some sleepy, other uplifting and other very subtle lifting of mental pressure leaving ones mind free to move forward.
THANK YOU! I've been looking all over the Internet for information on kava. Here in Hawaii, everyone uses its Hawaiian name: 'awa (pronounced _AH-vuh_ ). I had no idea its English name was different, which explains why Google wasn't giving me any results. Luckily, your video gave me both its name as well as most of the info I was looking for. Thanks!
Kava is awesome I personally mix 1-2 tablespoons of the powder with milk and blend ‘em together and sip it until it’s done and get a nice soothing, muscle relaxing effect (I’ve noticed this as my shoulders/ jaw area are typically tense) Be aware though! Over doing the dose with kava can cause nausea and throwing up! Verify the source of the kava it’s a trial and error process but once you find the one that works for you I can tell you from experience that kava really is a natural game changer with helping relieve tension and stress!
@@idipped2521 Little late but you can find alot of info on kava at "Joeytalks" on youtube. "Art of kava" is one good source and he recommends, "Karuna kava" from this vendor, they are pre-mixed. Don't forget to add your fat.. (milk, creamer, coconut oil...)
Just came from the Tom Scott video (I've been binge watching) and my god. I'm glad you are still doing this you filled me with inspiration and determination to keep going through university and maybe create some videos of my own.
Taste like shit, but it got me off of alcohol dependency. It did the trick, every time I crave for alcohol, I bust my finest root powder. It got me sitting on my ass!
Awesome video thank you! I went out to Fiji a couple years ago and can totally agree with everything you say. Had it quite a few times but never really felt anything :P
Great video. Was hoping you’d actually break down the science ie how it actually makes you less anxious - does it attach to certain receptors? Does it change molecules? Anyone have any interesting research papers references they could share?
Wonderful video, I've been to Fiji a few times (where they drink Kava) so it was interesting to hear about it from a scientific perspective. You explore all kinds of interesting topics on this channel and your writing makes the concepts very clear. If I could offer some advice form a public speaking perspective sometimes you draw out your words too long and you also rise in pitch at the end of some sentences. A good example would be at 1:27 where "mood" is drawn out and "sleep" rises in pitch. When I was learning to public speak I was told I had a 'fairy voice' and while yours is not as bad as mine was I thought I'd let you know the advice I received for this. A 'fairy voice' is one that kind of floats through the script, my pitch would rise throughout sentences and I wasn't 'forceful' in what I was saying. Tips I had to deal with this were to take a deep breath before starting (but I suspect you do this), focus on speaking at a controlled speed (which you do really well!), and think of lowering your voice (which is less of a problem for men) and putting a sense of gravity into your words which helps to stop the pitch rising and the floaty voice affect. Anyway, this advice was really helpful for me so I thought I'd pass it on in case it was helpful for you too. Anyway, I hope this is at least a little helpful - feel free to reach out if you need clarification - but otherwise keep up the great work. Your public speaking is really excellent (this may just take it to the next level) and I am absolutely loving this channel - keen to see where it will go in the future.
I’m of Malagasy descent so part pacific island and it makes me feel great I have been eating more East African and pacific island food and herbs it has been life changing.
Kava is fucking amazing. Can't believe its legal haha. BTW to all people who are new to kava, give it some time because it takes some skills to make it right.
Bought my fist couple strains today. Definitely taking the edge off. Gonna go easy to get the dosing right. Being crippled by anxiety, ... I feel amazing. Game changer. Bu-Bye Rx pills.
Do you know which strain has the most that effects on the GABA system? I also wanna get off of Benzos. Do you have any tips for preparing? How much will I need in the beginning and do I drink it slowly over time or fast?
Hay I've just come from Tom Scott's video where you explained coke and mountain due dissolving your sister teeth nice to see your still doing video 👍👍👍
Back when I used to drink this stuff, everywhere I read up on it was saying to mix it with milk or some kind of fat that the kavalactones could bind to; could never really tell if that actually made much of a difference though tbh. Can you do a video on mitragyna speciosa next? LOL, kidding.
@@ScienceC just went to a shop today where the owner is VERY knowledgeable on this and kratom. And they also said that kava is fat soluble. BRING ON THE FATS! LOL This stuff is amazing! Great info on this man. Thank you
Been drinking it before my differential Equations class and I can attest to both the increased cognitive function and sense of euphoria. I've never enjoyed math so much
I went to Fiji for a couple months when I was 14 (I was building a couple dormitories for a youth camp). One Sunday our group visited a village where the males of the group were invited to sit in a circle with the men of the tribe and coconut shell was passed around the circle. People would take the shell, dip it in the large bowl in the center and drink. None of us knew what Kava was at the time, so everyone was a bit taken aback by the f'd up teenagers leaving the village. I don't really remember much about the effects, to be honest. I DO remember that it made my mouth go numb on the first drink. After the second time I dipped in the bowl, my whole face went numb. I drank once more after that, but don't really remember much. In my defense, it WAS 37 years ago. Memory ain't what it used to be. LOL
Never heard of kava with a k before, I only knew about cava, the Spanish sparkling wine. Sounds interesting though, and if it has the potential to help with anxiety, it's worth giving a try. Thank you.
Where are you getting this from? Some people drink it all day and all night, they can’t live without the stuff, and also the first time I tried it it wasn’t very long for me to feel the effrcts
It's more than root and water if you do it right. Cream and saliva really make it. I've been using it for years now, since it first came to popularity back in the mid 2010s. I notice a big difference if I even just chew the root or the soak the teabag orally before steeping. I know, sounds gross. But it makes a difference. As does the cream. Adds to the overall cascade effect from the broad range of kavalactones in the actual plant(extracts have never been particularly effective for me except as a sort of anxiolytic during tryptamine based trips. I think it mildly inhibits the breakdown. Not enough to compare to a real MAOI but enough to add something overall.)
I've used a lot of kava over the years and have never experienced the reverse tolerance that this gentleman talks about -- just regular tolerance. Wondering why
Is the reverse tolerance at all similar to how some people say THC can work? Like, every once in a while you'll meet a weed enthusiast who's like "yeah, honestly you get a better high the second or third time you try weed, since the thc stays in your system". I've never been sure if that's just a perceived effect or if it's real.
THC definitely has a normal tolerance, I think with that people might not inhale or consume a lot of THC and that’s why they don’t get high but I’m not sure.
Complete and total lie. Weed is a drug, and you don’t build up a REVERSE tolerance, just like any other drug, you will eventually build a normal tolerance and need more to reach a certain high… I would like to add: you will experience withdrawal symptoms from Weed if you smoke everyday for a long period of time.
@@ChosenNEO777 this is not true… I smoked weed 10 times a day for 7 years and quit with no problems. Stop spreading lies. Drink some coffee because that’s 10x worse than anything weed can even come close to.
I can’t stand the taste of it, and I was toss and washing Kratom powder for quite some time which people say is more disgusting A lot of kava bars also don’t disclose that the drinks contain Kratom/ kava shots at head shops also contain Kratom and other unknown chemicals that cause extreme addiction and in a lot of cases long term health issues and possibly death. Tried it today. They have made it so it doesn’t have a weird taste. Three sips of a double shot in a drink and I definitely felt it and was so smiley haha. The three people that were with me felt nothing 😂Taking some home so friends can try. I’m sensitive so maybe that’s why I felt it the first time

Well as you stated the Kava Root has been engrained in the Polynesian region for thousands of years so i suppose there is some evidence to its long term effects.

It's not specifically English, the word's pronounciation is borrowed from Polynesia. K is dropped in Hawaii, Tahiti, and the Marquesas.
You need a viral video. These videos are entertaining and high quality all you need is for people to know about it. Keep it up
Kava is the Lithuanian word for coffee so the video confused me before you explained that it is from Hawaii

The actual, thorough damage the hippies did to alternative medicine, and alternative mods of health has yet to be fully analyzed.
Can it be taken while already drinking alcohol?
Wouldn't that be considered an adaptogen it you've got to take less of it, as it builds up in your system, over time?
