I assume it was meant that **multiple** Armies could achieve capturing an entire Planet, but still, that is quite a small Size considering how Wars on Earth have had Huge Armies clashing against eachother, unable to do such a Thing. Obviously the Empire has much more advanced Tech, but still, to claim only 36 Thousand Soldiers could capture an entire Planet seems a bit off.
Fr the imperial trooper is the closest you will get in starwars to a Wehrmacht soldier, I still think it looks cool and I CAN because it isnt technically a Nazi
In most cases, yes, but I'm not too sure this is entirely innacurate. In the infographic portion of the video, I show up to the size of AN army, not THE entirety of the Imperial army altogether. I couldn't find stats for the size of the entire galaxy spanning imperial military, but in the video, I do go on to explain that systems armies could contain up to 3 armies and sector armies contained multiple systems armies depending on the size of the sector, and there are at least a thousand sectors under Imperial control. One also must remember that planets with the populations of say Corusant, get increasingly rare as you travel outward from the Core Worlds, and it's not too uncommon to see some worlds out on the Outer Rim with dinky populations under a million.
@@Manda-LORE Never said you were inaccurate, I believe you are and conform to what I remember about the The Essential Guide to Warfare. One must remember that here on Earth we have failed invasions involving armies that dwarfs SW sectorial armies. There are more casualties in the Vietnam war than there are soldiers in the first batch of Kaminoan clones. That's absurd and the explanation is obviously that the authors did not have even a remote military background. Realistically speaking you can't invade a planet, albeit a very underpopulated one and yet that's a common trope in Science Fiction. Of course we usually dismiss it by inventing some ad hoc justification for our suspension of disbelief, and that's fine. But it's correct to point ou that it's another case of the "Sci-Fi Writers Have No Sense of Scale" trope.
@Segmentation Fault the GAR is a whole different animal that we can thank Karen Traviss for lol, 3 million clones for the whole republic was absurdly low, so I agree with you there. The Imperial army doesn't specify how many are serving in it so it's potentially a far more realistic number and like I said there's multiple armies per star system and I'm sure armies work in conjunction with one another with detachments being sent to aid other forces where needed and so on, thats all I was saying.
@@Manda-LORE Yes there is multiple of retcon or justifications to make this mess more believable. For the GAR it's not just Karen Traviss and her 5 million clones. Salvatore in the novelization of AoTC states that the first batch is only 1.2 million strong, Lucas in RoTS with Yoda stating that one bataillon is enough as a reinforcement for the entirety of Kashyyyk. The disneyverse tried to retcon these absurd number by saying that Lama Su, when referring to "units", was not talking about single clones but regiment-size formations... For the Imperial part we have Palpy stating that Endor was defended by a whole legion... While in the meantime the Imperial Handbook was stating that a Legion was roughly the size of ancient Rome ones (around 10.000 strong). Retconing all that to make it consistent is hard...
@@Malekith227 I condider the Imperial Handbook to be a bad source, because it contains a lot of lore errors and its information is very dumbed down for casual fans. However, I've always been under the impression that there weren't that many Imperial troops on Endor. I always assumed much less than 10.000. After all, their main concern was guarding the area around the shield generator, the rest of the planet (or "moon") was of no interest to them. They also didn't view the Ewoks as a threat, so they left them alone.
11:33 if i did my math right, a battle group is roughly 9000+ men on paper, not including support elements like logistics. How are 9000 men suppose to be able to conquer a continent? Unless your talking about a VERY small planet with a non-existant population?
One thing you have to keep in mind with Star Wars is that planets in the outer rim are not as densely populated as planets in the core worlds and these figures don't factor elements from the Imperial Navy or the Stormtrooper Corps which are usually opporating in tandem with the Imperial Army. Add to the fact that most sci-fi writers have a shit sense of scale lol. These figures were provided by the Imperial Handbook and I list it as one of my sources in the video's description.
@@Manda-LORE Fair enough, usually when i encounter scaling issues in a universe, i just add my own numbers to make up the difference, but you are also correct in that i failed to take into account support from other branches of the imperial military, so thats fair.
@geemanamatin8383 the sourcebooks have never been reliable for giving realistic unit scales. The essential guide to Warfare states that the Grand Army of the Republic was only 3 million strong for example, which is ludicrously low. Alas, these are all we have for canonically confirmed sources.
I personally don't think it makes sense for the empire to have a smaller army considering we are always seeing the stormtroopers being depicted as the main military of the empire and the idea that the imperial army are a lower level military doesn't make sense because the imperial military favours quantity over quality so logically they would want most of their infantry to be put on their stormtroopers with them doing everything infantry related whatever the army does is pointless and redundant and is something that is supposed to be fulfilled by the stormtrooper corps
We don't see them depicted as the main military, they are only around when there's Vader involved or aboard the Death Stars and in the shield generator garrison
@@Reach_of_the_Astronomican Jup. Most people forget that most stories we read/play/watch are about extraordinary situations, which is precisely the speciality of stormtroopers. @@wilhufftarkin8543Exactly. It makes sense that we never actually see the Imperial Army in the Original Trilogy because almost all the battle scenarios we see involve Imperial troops being deployed from ships. Similar to the Marine Corps, the Stormtrooper Corps functions as shock troops deployed from naval vessels. The Imperial Army is responsible for garrisoning Imperial planets, and we never see any of these garrisoned worlds in the original trilogy. All instances with Stormtroopers (and their variants) in the OT: A New Hope: Tantive IV ---> Troops deployed from ship Tatooine ---> Troops deployed from ship Death Star ---> Well the Death Star is a kind of ship. Its think its part of the Imperial Navy Empire Strikes Back: Hoth ---> Troops deployed from ship Cloud City ---> Troops deployed from ship Return of the Jedi is the only film where it might make more sense to have the Imperial Army instead of the Stormtrooper Corps. However since the Endor garrison and shield generator bunker exists to protect, maintain, and operate the shield for the Death Star, it would make sense that the garrison there is under the purview of the Imperial Navy and so naturally the only troops we see on Endor are Navy troopers and Stormtroopers.

The planets are also probably a lot smaller than earth, maybe the size of a moon
EU is so much better than anything Disney can come up with.
Their organization is basically the same as the US Army.
If star wars was real, I would rather join these guys than the Stormtroopers
I would perfer the regular imperial army over the storm troopers. Never liked those new guys. *AT ALL*
The last episode the bad batch sucked
However, I do think that Imperial Army troopers are underrepresented (and even more so Imperial Navy troopers - although you could shoot them in Dark Forces 1).
All instances with Stormtroopers (and their variants) in the OT:
A New Hope:
Tantive IV ---> Troops deployed from ship
Tatooine ---> Troops deployed from ship
Death Star ---> Well the Death Star is a kind of ship. Its think its part of the Imperial Navy
Empire Strikes Back:
Hoth ---> Troops deployed from ship
Cloud City ---> Troops deployed from ship
Return of the Jedi is the only film where it might make more sense to have the Imperial Army instead of the Stormtrooper Corps. However since the Endor garrison and shield generator bunker exists to protect, maintain, and operate the shield for the Death Star, it would make sense that the garrison there is under the purview of the Imperial Navy and so naturally the only troops we see on Endor are Navy troopers and Stormtroopers.
Also a Big Factor rebels are fast WE only See Battles that have Imperials Chase after them or attacking very high Profile areas. The Thing the Moment the imperial Army IS deployed the Rebels are gone, the branch that WE See IS their armored Department Walkers etc this IS Army stuff
