"TERRAIN TERRAIN" Landing at one of the most challenging airports in Greenland
HTML-код

- This video shows the arrival and landing at BGBW Narsarsuaq, Greenland. on a single engine Cessna Caravan.
A very challenging airport that has to be treated with respect.
A slide show "The beauty of the Arctic" follows the video, a collection of my best photos.
Don't get fooled by the beauty - Greenland is a very hostile environment.
The people there are very friendly there though...

That is an interesting approach. When we flew in there in a more slippery plane than a Caravan we asked for (and got) permission to do a couple of spirals to lose altitude without shock cooling the engine. It is a rugged and spartan landscape but quite beautiful as well. Thanks for the reminder captain!

I loved to fly to Narsarsuaq in June 2023 in a C182. We were there VFR and maybe that's much easier, if the conditions are good. Maybe a IFR approach is much more challenging. Kulusuk was a much bigger challenge for me on both approaches I did there. Ofcoourse, the C182 is much slower too. Great video and pics. Reminds me to my trip.
Thank you!
Even as a ferry pilot who has been t BW many times, I treat it with upmost respect. Anything lower than 2,000ft ceiling, I route via BGSF. Longer but safer.
There is no room for error at BW with the next alternate so far away.

The ferry flying is a very small niche in aviation business and you really have to like it. It’s not as glamorous at it looks. More details on my web site.

Hi Captain. Just curious. Is the inertial separator on? Any particular reason? And do you always use Beta reverse on your Caravan landings? Good winds & happy landings from Portugal
I use the inertial separator only on dirt or contaminated runways.
After landing using BETA s a good idea, reverse not always as it can damage the prop my gravel flying around.
Most important to save on the brakes. In these aircraft, the brakes are not designed to stop the aircraft.
It is more for taxi and parking the aircraft.
Also there is no anti-skid and you block the tires in no time.
There is no need to leave the runway at the first taxiway. When you have paid for flat tires, you will understand...
Different is the situation in light jets with thrust reversers. These are equipped with very strong 3-disc brakes and anti-skid. A replacement of a worn out brake is $10k.
An example of a jet landing here:

Hi, I'm interested how did you start doing these ferry flights?
And how can you fly so many different types?
What type ratings do you have?
My colleague just did first ferry flight on DA-50, the pay was great and you get to see so much new destinations and airports
So I'm interested about it and would like to hear from you how is it. And how do you get those jobes?
Do they all pay the same or it depends what plane do you ferry?
There is a lot if thins to consider to become a ferry pilot, most of them not to discuss in public. In essence I can say: it is not a time building job, rather a job you do if you have already ample experience and apply it in the ferry flying. It is highly challenging and the risks elevates quickly if you have situations outside of your experience range.
For your flying career my best wishes!

@GuidoWarnecke thank you for your reply.
I sub to you a few months ago.
I didn't think about ferry flights for time building, rather as a job.
Have some 350h, but I have signed for a company in Europe that operates Airbus.
I was thinking about this later when I have more experience. But I don't have any idea if you can do this full time, is there a lot's of job offers for ferry flights.
And do you fly exclusively for one company, or are you just on the market and picking up those gigs?
Thanks for your subscription.
Ferry flying is an extremely small market with a small circle of pilots. The insurance companies are very picky and without a lot of previous Atlantic crossings, they will not ensure you n these routes. There are no Job offers, it's all about word of mouth, based on trust and references. I started small ferrying C182 over the North Atlantic.
Go for the airlines first, and enjoy life!
What is your favorite aircraft to pilot?
I would say it is always the aircraft I am currently flying.
They are different ind you cannot compare a jet, a King Air or a Cessna caravan. Of course it is more comfortable to fly in a jet.

Due to changes in magnetic variations runway numbers change from time to time.
