    This procedure and transfer case servomotor is valid for the following models: PORCHE CAYENNE FROM 2003 TO 2010, 9PA (955), 3.2, 3.6, 3.0 TDI engines, GTS 4.8, S 4.5, S 4.8, Turbo 4.5 . turbo S 4.5, Turbo S 4.8, VOLKSWAGEN TOUAREG FROM 2003 TO 2010 7L6, 7L7, 7LA, 2.5 R5 TDI, 3.2 V6, 2.6 V6 FSI, 3.0 TDI, 3.0 V6 TDI.
In this video I show you the procedure to replace the transfer case servomotor of the Porsche Cayenne and the Volkswagen Touareg. Quite often these cars, when they are several years old, usually display a warning on the instrument panel of a failure in the 4 x 4 system (all-wheel drive) “Four Wheel Dr. System Faulty”. In this video I try to reveal the keys to solving it ourselves without having to go to the very expensive official service.
In this video I tried to find out if I found any problem in the wiring or inside the servomotor but without success.
What I have been able to investigate in this regard is the following:
When this problem occurs, in the vast majority of cases, the error reported by the scanner is error number 2039 “Transfer case servomotor potentiometer”.
When this error occurs, the official Porsche company indicates that it can be mainly due to 3 causes: From what I have found out, the percentage incidence of each of them is as follows:
1st Cause and the most probable one (approximately 80% of cases): One of the two potentiometers of the servomotor fails. The servomotor does not have an exploded view, so the entire servomotor must be replaced, which is precisely what is shown in this video. The servomotor in the official house costs about €800-1,000. The Porsche references of this transfer case servomotor are the following: 95562460100, 95562460101 (OAD341601A). This servomotor can be found on Amazon. From parallel manufacturers for an approximate price of €170 with shipping costs included: amzn.to/3sE9eJB
2º Another cause is due to some problem in the wiring between the servomotor control unit and the servomotor (10% of cases). All wiring must be carefully checked until the source of the problem is found. The official house has established a diagnosis protocol in this regard, measuring voltages and resistances between different pins of the wiring system between these two elements. I will try to make a video about it in the future.
3º Finally, and once it has been ruled out that it is not due to any of the previous causes, the problem would be found in the servomotor control unit, which is located just below the button by which the setting of the reducer is manipulated. This control unit can be found second-hand for around €90 and new costs more than €500.
What I have deduced is that the servomotor is very very close to the exhaust pipe (too close) and that over time, this heat given off by the exhaust pipe progressively damages the electrical components of the servomotor. The electric motor of the servomotor is not damaged, but the first thing that is damaged is one of the two internal potentiometers that contain the servomotor electronics. A potentiometer is a very cheap part to replace, but in this case there is no disassembly, so if it breaks down, you either dare to dismantle the servomotor yourself and replace the damaged potentiometer, or, if applicable, the servo motor temperature sensor, or else you have to buy the complete servo motor. Either the original, which as I say is very expensive, or the one produced in China which costs about €170.
