Firstly, great video! However, I am meaning to ask why the need for 3 different components? Initially, I thought that you only need one lens such as Helios 44-2 to achieve the anamorphic look. Also, would there be a full setup (with all 3 components) for anyone on a budget? (I am buying an a7siii this weekend)
May I ask, why you sold your Zcam? Not really a related question to the topic of this video, I am just wondering hehe... Great Video though, images look very good, thanks for the review!
I really love your style and have recently been researching about anamorphics a lot. I’m now saving up for my dream anamorphic setup so that gift card would come in quite handy 🤔 But anyway, keep up the good work, I’m excited for more inspiring videos like these!
Hey man! I can make that video in the future for sure. But also, you won the giveaway for the amazon giftcard! Hit me up on Instagram and I can send you your $$!
Ooo I'd love to win so I can get a 7ft umbrella for work. But is the vignette normal with the lens? Im assuming it might be an apsc lens? Just slightly smaller than the apsc mode on the camera?
Man such a good vid! More videos on anamorphic, please! One question- how do you deal with a 16x9 full-frame sensor with anamorphic? after de-squeeze the image is way too long and you lose lots of resolution from the top and bottom. As I guess the sony a7siii doesn't support anamorphic shooting, do you just crop the sides off? (and that way lose even more resolution) Thanks man!
Thanks man! Yes, I drop crop the sides off in post in the 2:4:1 timeline. Yeah, you lose resolution but 🤷🏼♂️ If you dont think about it, you dont even know you lost it! 🤣
@@MacOlink true pricey, but when you add kowa's cost + variable diopter cost it's not that far from Aivascope... plus there is much more time on building the damn thing at the beginning to work. Aivascope on the other hand is very easy 1 attach to the taking lens 2 align aiva 3done! But nevertheless It's 50/50 with Aiva. Some people praise the lens some people sell the lens almost instantly 😅
Not surprised you miss your zcam. I own both the e2f6 and a7s3 , use anamorphic on both Aivascope 1.5x and sirui 1.33x 35mm. When asked to compare I say “Zcam is like using a paint brush and the Sony a7s3 is like using a very expressive marker” 🤷🏼♂️ just my opinion lol
@@NickVanHouse I find the a7siii useful as a B-Camera when I need 2 cameras and good for travel. Take a bit more to make it look filmic and less broadcasty , I use a heavier FilmConvert setting on the Sony. Hope this helps.
Yeah that sounds about right. In my experience, Sony is really good for the utility and workflow speed which is great if this is your main source of income and you're shooting a lot. It's a working videographer's dream. With that said, the image out of ZCAM/Blackmagic/RED etc is just on a different level. IMO you need a separate cinema rig for those more creative projects where you're wanting that cinematic look. Some people get mad and say "cinematic" is just a stupid buzzword and it's all about the lighting etc -- yeah to a degree, but these sensors and the way the image is processed in camera is not created equal.
Actually just picked up another Z LOL. I missed it too much. I like that analogy you use. Honestly describes cinema vs mirrorless pretty spot on haha. These mirrorless sensors just dont have the sauce.
I have the a7siii and the e2 (og) its really easy to match them in the grade and i cant discern that the sensors have a look. Its all about the lenses to me. Awesome vid as always
Absolutely love the look! Anamorphic just gives the image a bit of that extra cinema sauce. I could soak myself in anamorphic footage it looks sooo good.
I like the footage man! Bummer you went from a z cam a7s. I noticed the footage wasn’t super sharp which kinda looks nice in some circumstances. If you want to try and sharpen it up a bit, mess around with the focus on your talking lens. I noticed mine wasn’t sharp so I now usually leave it focused a little under infinity now which has sharpened it up considerably. Cheers!
Why no open gate on the a7siii... There's no reason Sony couldn't release a firmware update.... The hardwate could handle the processing no doubt... Even if they just limited it to raw HDMI output only.
@@MacOlink it's funny that not more A7S3 owners are upset by this. Because it is not considered a full-blown cinema camera, many of the owners are not experts and I think they simply don't understand the concept. They don't realize 15% of the photodiodes of the sensor are effectively taking a vacation while capturing video.
I agree. I still don’t understand why the FX3 doesn’t have any anamorphic capabilities either. Or even shutter angle and proper assist functions in camera, lol. If only Sony and Panasonic teamed up.
Seems too soft to be normal. with the same setup my footage is sharper. But that was after i fine tuned the Kowa ! titto ferradans (anamorphic on a budget) has a tutorial on how to fine tune your Kowa. And no need for the glue, don't do that.
Make sure you drop a comment for your chance to win the giveaway! I will be picking a winner in my next video!

Hey is there a way to lose that distortion and vignette on the side ie shooting at different aspect ratio
do you know if there would be vignette with a 50mm taking lens and a rapido FVD 24a or 35a?
There would be less vignette than this FVD 16a. I know the FVD 35 is for shooting wider.
Dope video! Would've loved to have seen it on the FX6
Keep doing great stuff!
Thanks!
