Other than the somewhat mushy/ not tactile enough bass response (many prefer this type of bass presentation though), these are very competent IEMs and definitely a step up from the og mk1
I noticed when demoing the Mest mkii recently that the spiral dots ++ didn't absorb as much as the spinfit or the vanilla spiral dots. Unfortunately I wasn't able to try out the stock tips it would come with.
Is this why my mext sound a bit hollow in the vocals? Like singing through a can (not that bad lol) effect? I’m using spring tips, which fit me better than xelastics (can’t fit flush with those).
Great review. I have the OG. I don’t really mind the sharp treble. With the new coreir pentacomm brass tips, it turn the mest attack up a notch which is so much fun. Would love to see u drop a review of the tia trio and compared to the z1r as I am considering either of this as my next set. 😊
If you are looking for something 'natural' then UM might not fit the bill. Try the Dita Perpetua, IE 900 or Hifiman Svanar. I find all three to be very natural sounding.
Great content , Have you heard the Mest OG ? The MKII came so quickly after the OG came that everyone quickly sold their and forgot about the OG but I've seen many ranking that have the OG ahead of the mkii just because of the imaging the OG has.
I've had these for over a year and was thinking to complement them with something like the FatFreq TOTLs for even more deep bass. The Mest MKiis are no slouch in in any department including bass and have this incredible holographic sound (incredible for EDM & Hip Hop) and can be eq'd to a user's delight while still retaining that addicting sparkly treble without clipping like my Focal Clears. Sometimes I prefer the MKiis hooked up to my LP W2 over my Focal Clears hooked to a Focal Arche (although the Clears are also a wonderful full headphone!)
@@quackgarage9551 I won the Mest mk2 which could be bought for $950 on MusicTech. Very good detailed listen good dynamics and separation. Bass response is decent in quality but could be short in quantity. Treble is on the Spicy side just a little.
@@ElNINETEENTH Thanks for your time (i'll also watch your video). Just came across a brand new Mest MK2 for a similar price (a bit over $900) and it seems very tempting. My dream end game was the Z1R but it's super hard to find and the used models are in subpar condition. I'm currently using a Timeless, curious to see how it could compare. My friend has a Focal Stellia, a Z1R and he says that he prefer the MK2, so I guess the MK2 is no slouch.
Sorry for asking, is Mest MKII are similar tuning with Ikko OH10? Is it consider total upgrade if I went for Mest MKII cause i totally love Ikko OH10 tuning. If you havent try Ikko OH10 then its okay ☺️
I own both. The U12t has a bit more mid presence, the MEST a bit more V shaped. Personally I think the MEST excels at nearly everything you throw at it, be good or bad production/mix/mastering. The U12t is more picky. I find the bass is better on the MKII, more impact, more sub bass, faster bass. U12t can sound bloated at times, seems to have more 100-200hz. MKII also is brighter, frequency extends higher, I like this personally, it makes most tracks more lively, also making the u12t a bit darker. Soundstage: U12t feels a bit wider, but at the sacrifice if imaging, vocals can seem distant on most tracks. The MKII is perfect in my opinion. Very intimate, but also wide. The soundstage is holographic! Again, both are great IEMS. I find myself reaching for the MEST 9-10 times. In short, it is a very FUN IEM. I use the u12t more for live (stage) as it isolates better using the 15 or 20 apex module. I should also point out both my sets are custom. 64 Audio is a A12t. Hope this helps. Cheers!
I’d definitely go for a new Mest for 1k from MusicTeck knowing that you won’t face QC issues unlike Fatfreq not well made iems let alone used. Mest looks good and it comes in mint condition.
My friend has the exact opposite preferences to you! It's the Mkii>Z1R>>ie900 for him XD His explanation was a little strange though- said the ie900 has no bass, and the Z1R's bass was too muddy
I have a pair of mext, does it ever sound like the vocals are hollow? Like singing through a can? I think my ears don’t quite cradle the bone conductor properly lol. It’s not super noticeable in music, but watching a video you can hear it easily.
reecho peacock spring 1 if you dont like a warmth remove the grill on the spring and use narrow ear tips this have 3 bores for full range for bass and dor treble coaxial driver and knowles balance armature

Your channel is underrated . 👌🏾
Thanks!
AEX07 tips work really well on these; gets you a nice deep fit without weakening the bone conduction like Spiral Dots or Spinfits do
Good to know

Thanks for this, I sold mine because it didn’t sound natural.
I might wait for the UM Best MK76 ; )

I have. Sharper treble which has the benefit of making treble sound more detailed and imaging more separated out, but the MK2 is more refined.
Perfect timing, now that MKIII is out
Mk2 is better

You want hard hitting bass get the Mangird Xenns UP hardest hitting mid bass there is.
Any advise MEST MK2 vs S15 ?
Great review thank you. But any comparison with Dunu SA6 MK2?
Won't be a fair comparison. The Mest is better and quite a bit more expensive also.
Try out the multiverse mentor!
I have! Have posted several impressions on HeadFi
👍 for Beethoven story & discovery of bone conduction tech.
These or Mentor Multiverse, what is the difference? :))
Mentor is actually very similar, a bit more warmth. Not worth the price difference IMO.
I wanted the Z1R but found a brand new MK2 for $1000. I'm only worried about quality/durability, since this will be my first chifi.
Mest is very durable and quality is top tier
@@ElNINETEENTH Still thinking about it. Did you ever listened to one? What are your impressions?

@@quackgarage9551 what do you care about in an iem? I think Mest 2 brings good signature that’s balanced with a little bit of treble excitement.

Eh it’s definitely better, but the oh10 is a bass cannon imo. Maybe the mext would be more your flavor. Or mest mkiii
If you want a taste of what the mest/mext can do at a budget try the kiwi ears quintet.
Hi did you upgrade from OH 10, i am planning to upgrade to Mest MK2 as you. Is it worth it, is the bass have more speed or slam harder ?
Great content, as usual 👍 Would you pick U12t ahead of all 3 IEM’s in this video ? ( for jazz, classical, vocal, ) Thanks, keep up the good work

Would you rather pay USD1k for a Mest MkII or USD1.6k for a Maestro SE? I've come across these two in the used market recently.

He probably had a bad fit with the 900.
"ie900 has no bass" 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Best bass you can find on any iem. Mest 2 has no bass in comparison.
How do these compare to the u12t as an all rounder?
Must people would say Mest is better as it has a better DD bass unlike U12T
