    I used to drive a 1966 2 + 2 back in 1968. For some reason, the market on these were weak as buyers favored the coupe. I was able to purchase mine with very few miles for much less. Actually with a 4 spd manual with overdrive, the +2 had a superior ride to the coupe and was just as fast if not more comfortable. I recognize these interior parts very well. Thank you for your detailed explanation

      A few years later 1974 I acqujired a 1967 E Type roadster with a steel factory hardtop.....it was in need of a restoration. I used to comb this large self help junkyard... luckily I found two demolished E-Types and spent a few hours harvesring bits and pieces of switch gear, guages, lense covers,knobs etc for my project. Time well spent when you are in the process of restoring and using original parts.@@JaguarEType

      Hi Keith @keithgarland3404,
      many thanks and your time for watching. The idea was, to show all the non 2+2 and the 2+2 owners how it looks inside such a car. Outside it looks more or less the same, but as you might have notices, I do like the interior. 😉

    Hi Maikel . It was wonderful to see you at the Jaguar Spares Day at 3 Counties Show ground . I must say it was slightly disappointing , some of the asking prices were at best optomistic but worth the visit just to bump into your good self and your good lady too ! And of course the walk around the public car park was a treat with some very nice Jaguars of all models . My favourite was a 1969 series 1 XJ6 with a turbo charged (not supercharged !) 3.6 from a later X300 ? . Yes . Thats why l tried to get the most complete series 1 2+2 . Thanks Maikel Cheers John

      Hi John,
      it was entirely my please 🙏 to meet YOU, someone who is following my channel.
      You are right when you say that this time some stalls/sellers were missing. However, we stayed overnight at Upton upon Seven right in the center. 100 Yards from the river and only 10 xaeds from the pub. The weather was perfect, did we have 22 or 24°C. We did a pub crawl on Saturday and had some delicious curry 🍛 😋. So already coming on Saturday made our trip. Sunday was all on top and so relaxed. Some chatting here and there, catching up and "liming".
      Hope you get your 2+2 ready and are planning a nice trip for spring next year.
      Let's hope that the next Spares Day will take place at a very interesting location as some rumours are telling 😀. Wherever it is, we will be there. Janna is sending her warmest greetings.

    Maikel, I have a original price list from 1962 which has been hand written on that says 17.00 Pounds for number plates delivery to London and road fund licence
    for 4 months on the bottom of it 😊 At 2.20 you mentioned the 2+2 was cheaper than the OTS then at the end you showed the old price list showing it was the
    most expensive model. I didn't understand at first you meant in todays market. I believe some of the e types like eagle cars for instances are well over priced and
    the variation in prices are over the top.The bottom line is it is all market driven and the most sort after model is the roadster series 1. I think the FHC is the far more
    practical option if you can call any e type practical by any stretch of the imagination 🤣😂 For touring my OTS leaves a lot to be desired in space. Cheers Dave

      Hi Dave @ClassicCarCave, good to hear from you. Lovely video you have put up recently with the old pictures of the blue OTS. Invites to drive and enjoy. In all honesty I believe the spirit from the early cars one from the old days when we all were sporty, sexy and kicking around but isn't that some 30-40 years ago 😫, I remember those days, when I was a teenager, saying "look at the old granny in his Porsche" and that guy might have been only 50 years old then. My father used to say, the automatic is for women or those "wimps" that can not drive 🙄. Now, when you get a rental car, most of them are automatic and I am happy to enjoy it. You know that me and Janna are always touring in our 2+2 automatic, and she does not want to take any of the other cars for a longer tour. In fact, when you are jumping from a flat floor OTS into the 2+2 automatic, the difference in driving is tremendous. Only thing I am saying is, and you know I am in love with the early original cars, the 2+2 more than ever has its perfect market place for people that like touring and of course it should be a perfectly running car which has it's price.
      Have been at the Spares Day in Malvern, a group of Austrians came round to talk to me. They are from Graz, driving red OTS, one has a leaping Jag mounted on his bonnet 😯. We will be back for nice touring. All the best Maikel

    Thanks for the comprehensive review. Despite the 2+2 costing more to produce and being more expensive from the factory including the auto box cars and despite the extra parts and labour involved in current day restorations , prices are a product of demand which for some reason are less favourable with collectors looking for the purer form of the marque.

    • @JaguarEType
      @JaguarEType  9 месяцев назад

      Hi @pril250, you are 100% right and I fully agree with you. I am just wondering, as we are all getting older, more belly, slightly but only slightly stiffer 😬, we all might consider to swap our flat floor for a nice and comfy 2+2 automatic. and leave the racers to you younger generation to look after them. I am still fitting in the flat floor and I really do like it, but I have friends which are retired and do appreciate the larger doors, the lady likes the smooth auto box and extra space for luggage. It is still an E Type. Is the price increase, at Hagerty, the start of an increasing run for those cars. Just thinking ....

      Hallelujah! At last some common sense being spoken about the E Type 2+2 automatic. The Series 2 2+2 auto is actually an even better edition in my view with some added refinements over the earlier 2+2. I have owned my 1969 Series 2 2+2 auto since 1976 and at the 60th Anniversary summer JDC/JEC Concours it was awarded 3rd prize which I was delighted to receive having spent two years in Covid lockdown completely restoring every single component largely by myself. The 2+2 is the best marque in my view and is worth having if for no other reason than the simplicity of bleeding the rear brakes through the very sensibly placed inspection covers accessible easily from behind the rear seat back! Restoring all the interior trim by myself was tricky as you imply but very satisfying when finally finished. Interestingly the solid chromed steel wheels were an extra cost if ordered in place of the standard chromed wire wheels but again sixty years later they are a lot easier to maintain and much safer in my view.

      @@davidcroxson8088Hi there, you are doing fine as keeping it as it is. When it comes to bleeding the rear brakes I always remove the rear shocks (one on each side, it is only 2 nuts, 5 minutes one absorber is out so 10 minutes for both sides, and really easy access for bleeding. But for placing the brake pads, yes, I would also remove those plates behind the seats. Keep showing your car as is. Maikel

      @@JaguarEType yes Maikel that’s what all the non 2+2 owners tell me but I simply say I do not even have to jack my car up to bleed the brakes and I will bleed all four in the time whilst they are removing their dampers and then replacing them and putting plasters on their grazed knuckles - forgive me being smug, it’s something 2+2 owners seldom get the chance to be when talking to the OTS and Coupe friends. Incidentally I am 75 and find any opportunity not to lie on the ground as getting up again can be quite a task - you just wait!

      Merci d'avoir regardé mes vidéos. Je suis toujours heureux de recevoir vos commentaires et j'espère pouvoir aider d'une manière ou d'une autre, même s'il ne s'agit que de petites choses.😀
      Le plateau à colis était disponible tous les 2+2. Ce n'était pas une option mais un standard car le plancher était également plus profond et donnait donc plus d'espace pour les jambes. Les options de stockage sont de toute façon très limitées sur le Type E. C'est pourquoi je pense que c'est si bon et vraiment utile. Quel type de véhicule possédez-vous ?

      👍 the 2+2 is one of the best, if not the best, classic touring cars. It's pretty easy to understand that. Regarding the number. There is no correlation, but you could check on xkedata.com it seems your car is about April 67. Narrownit down in the BROWSE function on the left-hand side and a list of cars will come up. Try to search for any number such as engine body ecc. Good luck.

    The coupe and the roadster are more expensive today because the market so decides!
    The 2+2 has more a GT image than a sports car image and that is why it is not valued more.
    Same for Ferrari, Maserati, Aston Martin, etc. it is even more spectacular for these other brands

    • @JaguarEType

      @paydase
      Good day Serge,Yes, agree with you, but my question is, DOES a full nut and bolt restoration of a 2+2 cost more, less or equal compared to an OTS or FHC ? And how much does such a restoration cost today? And why not asking the money back plus the cost of purchasing the project. That would be a fair price for a fully rebuilt S1 2+2. and that could be higher than those commercially restored OTS or FHC. And buying a ready restored car instead of doing it yourself, how much time and hassle would you safe? So, a realistic price for a fully, freshly, correctly with all original rebuilt parts, 2+2 would be how much?

      @@JaguarEType Hi Maikel , Only what the market and the customer is willing to pay. I agree that the interior on a 2+2 is more complicated than a Roadster. I have a poor mans XKE, an XJS. All Jaguars are difficult to restore and expensive to source the trim parts. I appreciate your time and content. Richard Michael Owen and his Father do a great job restoring Jaguars. His knowledge of cars is impressive. 🚗

    • @paydase
      @paydase 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@JaguarEType
      Hi Maikel,
      The cost of the trim restoration would be certainly higher for a 2+2 as you clearly demonstrate it. You also certainly have a better idea than I of what would be that cost, depending on its quality.
      My point is that, as the 2+2 is valued less than the FHC or the roadster, whatever the cost restoration it will be difficult to find a client accepting to pay that premium (compared to a FHC/OTS) unless he is specifically looking for a 2+2.
      As a guideline though, according to Hagerty, the value of a S1 (1967) 2+2 in concourse condition today is USD 155k; excellent condition USD 104k; good condition USD 72k; and fair condition USD 43k. So that you can make your own calculations in terms of restoration costs, values, and easyness of resale, depending of the initial project cost.
      In general it is more interesting for somebody interested by an E-Type to buy an already restored car as it costs a lot to restore it properly.
      As a corollary, for a seller/restorer it is in general more interesting to sell a project than a fully restored car... unless the market value is such that he can recoup his costs that become then a small enough part of the car value. But that is true only for high end cars such as e.g. classic Ferrari's, Maserati coupes or spyders, and well preserved early S1's such as OBL's.
      Btw, thank you for the instructive video (as usual)

    • @JaguarEType
      @JaguarEType  9 месяцев назад

      Good day @rossilake3430, 100% agree with you. But Imagine you are 1,90 tall and your weight is 100 kg and however you are in love with the E type and its beauty and nobody is offering a really nice stunning 2+2, Remember the S1 only had about 2.700 LHD. So it is already a job to find one. Not talking about finding a properly restored on. I think if you are really looking for a great reliable 2+2 it is lot harder than finding a FHC or OTS.
      However, as I mentioned, the cost of the restoration is at least the same as for the other 2 models and as @paydase said, surprisingly Hagerty is listed a concourse car 155 k what I did not but and 104 for excellent condition. I think that reflects more the market situation. Indeed, I have the impression the 2+2 is the E Type which gained more value over the last years than any other E Type.
      Having said that, the video was made to show everyone who haven't seen the 2+2 from the inside, how they are made, and what extra comfort they offer. I am very happy about this discussion by the way.
      And YES, RMO and his father are doing a great job, I love their videos, they are cool guys. Hope to meet them one day.
