- This wonderful song was made by Belgian group Ishtar and it took participation at the Eurovision song contest in Belgrade 2008.
In spite the fact that this wasn't the choice of the majority in Europe I still find this as my favorite song.
Maybe they look a bit silly, but I am sure that if this was the silly-kitsch-fake-pop-contest they would be the last! ;) This song present very unconventional and unusual approach in making a festival song... so I found it less popular-art, more art.
I love this song.
Try to sing it!
It is so funny! So fun! Hehehe :p
P.S. The language is totally fictional and it doesn't mean anything. :)
And that's the best part - This song proves that music, just like love and all other - real human values, actually are - universal - and can reach hearts and minds of each one of us, in spite all our differences and cultural boundaries.

A perfect representation of my brain when I really need to concentrate on my work...
😂
Belgians, you have three official languages and yet you send a song in an invented language, not once but twice!
This is why we are Belgium. Surrealism and not giving 2 fucks. Come on Belgium!
This song is based on Ukrainian folk song
“Oj, u lisi na jalyni” (Oh, in a forest on a spruce”)

The melody is catchy af...
I love Ishtar...and love songs they sing...this is so unforgetable moment for me because I was in Belgrade arena that night and I was singing and dancing like mad..fantastic moments..
This was by far the best song that year and for sure is one of the best Euro songs ever.
This should not only make it to the final, but be a Winner! Masterpiece!!!
I totaly agree. 🖐
Wie luistert dit ook nog in 2021? Haha
Ik... :)
Ik ben nu aan het luisteren.
AWESOME! I'M A BABY AGAIN!
Ik krijg nu les AMV (Notenleer) en Samenzang van zangeres Soetkin Baptist.
Een heel goede lesgeefster en sympathieke vrouw ook.
Maar ik vind wel dat ze nu een ander geluid van stem heeft...
This was the weirdest entry of that year. Didn't like too much but deserved a place in the final nevertheless...
It's Ukrainian phrase: Ой у лісі на ялині - Hey in Forest on Spruce
I know that they were using many words that exist, mostly in Slavic languages, but I didn't knew that, so thank you for sharing it here. ❤
Can you tell more aboit this phrase, or anything else?
@@PredragStakic it is based on Ukrainian folk song “Oj, u lisi na jalyni” (Oh, in a forest on a spruce)

The song is about a poor girl Marusyna who asks her sister to help her lull her babies (son and daughter). The sister refuses saying that she should have listened to their mum and dad who warned them about that noble guy who makes young poor girls fall for him and leaves them with bastard babies.
@@vladshapran5000 Thank you brother for this wonderful gesture of your.
So nice of you to make an effort and share this here.
And what an interesting story. I love folk art, and this was such a treat for me. Really lovely. OK, a bit cruel :) But this is how people were living in our past...
Do you know, is there any other version of this song?
I see that this one was performed by Ukrainian State Choir, during the SSSR era, so I guess, it was either an adaptation of an older version, or some composer wrote it for them.
Anyway, the Belgian Euro-song version is even stranger now, and I love it. Hahahhaa I would really love to hear it from the author of their version - How it all happened and - what was the idea?
I remember that in media it was said that the language was imaginary and I can see that it is partially true (no crocodiles in Ukrainian version ^_^ )... But the rest is mostly Ukrainian as I can tell, so, it was not too much invented as they presented it...
Me too!!! :-)))
Just for the record, Ishtar with this song are probably one of the most original appearances on Eurosong contest ever.
This is a PURE AVANT-GARDE!
...No lies with lyrics... No showing up with singing or playing "virtuosity"... No ANY POPULISM just to get popularity...
This is just original, beautiful and simple song that create happy feelings...
Unfortunately only for those who speak this language of happiness and love can understand it...
My favorite Eurivision song!!

Is this is the same text like you put on the other comment, just transcribed into Latin letters, so those who cannot read Cyrillic can read and sing it too?
@@PredragStakic yes, it is the same text and exactly the reason why i transcribed it.
@@vladshapran5000 Thank you bro!
Fortunately I know how to read Cyrillic, but it is good for others who cannot. Nice... Thank you.
