...... One thing not mentioned is that the role of a producer in an "old school way" as you said, simply does not exist anymore because there are not more standards at all. I mean, if Bille Eilish producer decides to use a shoe box as snare they are zillions of "producers" who will imitate that, even if it´s complete garbage. That was not admitted in the 60s, 70s, and a good part of the 80s. That get of course against the concept of "romantization", for better or worse. The second is the total lack of mention of the "Vitamine Contacts" factor. Geniality can be sometimes be found under each stone, but without the right connections in the industry you can simply forget it.
That absolutely did happen in the 80s . Hence all the horrific snare sounds. People have always copied each other, but it was harder to do because everyone was working with musicians and different gear. These days you can download a preset or whatever.
This is very true and is something that kept me down in the long run. I was afraid of what my industry friends would think of me doing freelance but in the long run it really shouldn’t matter
👏🏽👏🏽I'm glad to see there are still videos like this that remind people that this business is multi-faceted with a variety of people at different levels in game. The reality in the creative industry is a tough pill to swallow but accepting reality and adapting to it is what can help creatives find their path in this business.
I worked under a guy for a couple years who's one of the best audio engineers/ producers in the world. He's worked on some big projects and he's highly respected in the industry by some big names. Yet no one knows who the hell he is. This industry is full of people like him
You see a lot of successful people doing an interview, talking about how they squandered their money on dumb things and found themselves broke and in a jam. A year later, after everyone feels bad for them, they're posing in front of fancy cars again, wearing expensive things, and partying in Miami, like nothing ever happened. The healthiest thing to do is to not give a shit about that image. It's pointless and just as bad of an addiction as drugs and alcohol. Solid video.

@@darklabelmusic I am the producer of my wife @rebeckaaldana and I wonder if it is really meaningful to look for digital streams for a small independent artist, instead of producing shows, participating to festivals what definitely brings more cash, selling tickets... so for us as an example, we wonder if it is not worthy to try our songs live during a show, evaluating how far our audience likes it and then produce/record only what is fitting with our audience (sorry for my basic english, I am not native neither really fluent ;-))
I haven't agreed with the industry for a long time. I look at elon, and think, can I just be a generalist inside the war of music? learned mixing vocals, sound design, mastering, but the basic fundamentals of analog vs digital conversion. Under another name, I hope to not arrive to one destination, but that I have multiple ideas as I branch off from not just music, but advancement of expression and tech itself. I really hate the industry. There won't be a time to flex my money, but a time I would rather be distraught and broken for the closest story-telling.
This faked "reality" is so damaging. It is bad for more honest (now former) professionals pushed out of the industry based not on their actual skills & deliverability by fluff. It results in acts thinking they think they are working with the real deal based on pictures of studios, cars, and assorted head-bobbing wankeryness when the results are overLOUD, W-I-D-E, and ever so meh because there is no real skill in the tasks that make a real thing that matters. People like their golden calf tho so it will go on until there is a change in the social tide.

Set up steady stream of passive income first and after that focus on making music. This way you don't have the pressure to pay your bills with music.
