Honestly not much work done on the layout since the last update. When home for Christmas break I did record some running clips of stuff I never showed before. Might post those soon :)
so basically the split gears on climax is part of the split chassis era basically. i had a bachmann niagra and it had an issue before my moms cat years ago smashed it , it had problems with drivers they would slide a little and jam up mech. then i bought at a flea market a 2-6-2 bachmann that i got for $10 said need work. it has a pancake motor and split chassis which i didnt know. and the axles were split . bachmann didnt stand by and have parts nor would give me an idea to how to fix. no paats available, so when i do get layout going i may have it as a display piece on layout like SMT does with his dads 0-4-0 . My late grandfather got as a retirement present it was a bachmann spectrum type 2-8-0 consolidation which he recieved in 1992-1993 from teachers that knew him. was a beautiful locomotive i dont think it would be messed up but i dont know. When i was younger i did have a 1361 pennsylvania 4-6-2 pacific it was a bachmann spectrum and dcc ready. again i didnt learn a lesson back then i left as a display on a wood shelf and yeha Bang gone. i had the locomotive in my trains box but was broken badly. i took apart and kept the motor, headlight bulb, drivers etc. so if i get a chance to get another later on since i dont live at my moms since 2012 i can things i had. anyway good video alot better then mine but i have til recently didnt ave a phone mount to do stuff plus im not as talkative, i also dont get a chance for quiet lol. as far as MTH closing i heard about it, and its like what happened basically with tyco/ mantua in 1990s they closed down the train division and left many things left with out parts, model power buys it up and runs it as mantua classics MRC owns model power shuts that down, now Lionel trains has a new line of HO scale trains which are to Mantua specs and they wont name them as such. I understand the guy has to retire but what i dont get is why isnt any of if he has any family why cant they take it over. I never owned MTH products but ive seen they were very expensive out of my price range, anything ive gotten was an ebay find or yardsale or trainshow , or like most of my stuff is part of old train set i bought and added more and more to it.
You should totally make some videos of you making your layout and talking about some of the ideas you have. People really enjoy just hearing about opinions on RUclips about trains. MTH is being handed over to some of the people currently at MTH and will most likely stick around.

And yeah if you were to hear how id build mine its um small it would be basically a switching modular layout because I have limited space no basement to build something like that due to moisture and well neighbors. I do make some videos of how I painted my locomotive and did kind of a putting it together . take a look. I hear they alright i mean i know not perfect but i now have a phone mount to do it hands free.
