- Larry, the "Little Horse That Can Jump", wins the Amer. Miniature Horse Assoc. 2010 Amateur Jumper World Championship. Larry stands 30 inches tall and cleared some 41 inch jumps to win this year. Larry has now won 4 World Championships and 2 Reserve World Championships as a jumper. See our web-site at www.sunsetmtn.com for information on Larry's foals. You can get your own little jumper!
I was looking at that too :/
I felt sorry for their little heads when the handlers were jerking on the chain. I know that competing is tough and not making it is frustrating, but it's not the car, but the driver.
Kudos to Katie who ran it 8 months preg! :D
HE'S SO LITTLE compared to the other minis!!!
THIS IS THE CUTEST THING IVE EVERY SEEN!
Larry is awesome. He has a new fan!
Really well done, little boy :3
He's gorgeous
That is cute! I have a mini/Shetland that is about 7-8 hands and can jump up to 3'3 easily!
I bet those other handlers are really shocked that a poneh smaller than theirs can do better than their ponehs c: ROCK ON LARRY. ROCK. ON. Hehehe, I want little Larry babies cx
Soooo cute!!!
Larry is SO cute!
Larry's owner did SO well. He never got frustrated, he always praised, he did everything RIGHT. He ran the course calmly, and provided a safe and calm environment for the horse. The other owners were yanking at the ropes at the refusals, and got super frustrated at their animals whenever they took a wrong step. This created more stress on their horses, because they knew what was coming. Larry's handler is the reason Larry won, not because of Larry's jumping ability. The other horses knew they would be punished if they failed, and the pressure made them preform worse then they maybe would in their arena.
if only larry was 17hh he would be an amazing horse to have in the jumper ring !
Well done Larry & handler. Thought the 'refusal' handlers were a bit harsh, first refusal, she tried to drag the horse over from a standstill, but pregnant lady did well, considering!
Just now found this video, and cannot believe they have this show at all. That said, this little mini Larry seemed to be the only mini out there that truly enjoyed the work. And he is so adorable and so tiny. Recommend to anyone who enjoys jumpers to watch this. Very sweet little Larry, the "Little Horse That Can Jump". He really can too!!!
actually, I don't understand why they allow chains. they could take a hint from equine agility, the lead must NEVER tighten, horse must never show signs of being forced or any signs of discomfort. That said, this is very impressive:)
Larry is so tiny! And so well-proportioned. He looks like a regular warmblood horse just 1/10 scale! These are formidable obstacles. Several were like a Puissance Wall for him. And he did that again and again. Amazed at how many trotted over them.
I agree. I noticed that many of the handlers were not restraining their dissatisfaction in their charges performance. Get a lot more out of the little guys when they can have confidence and security in their handlers like Larry had.
Aww he is so adorable! I love how he is the smallest competing and he is the only one with a clear round!
Wonderful, Larry! I also noticed how a sympathetic handler made all the difference.
What a great little horse. Truly loves his jumping and his owner. I loved how Larrys handler kept him calm between jumps, vital to build trust, which obviously Larry has in his handler. Well done.
It looks like that little guy loves to jump
Larry is perportioned perfectly, some look like they have to carry a lot on those little four legs.
My eyes literally popped out when I read that lady was pregnant o.O respect.
My trainer that passed away absolutely loved this little horse. His name was Larry and he abosolutely loved watching your videos of "little Larry." Thank you for posting and ignore all the haters, you made some people very happy.
Horses either love to jump (Larry) or they don't. The secret is figuring out what a horse really loves to do. When you figure it out that horse will be a champion. They follow their bliss too.
Sollen die dicken Damen mal vorspringen, dann haben sie eher einen Grund frustriert zu sein, als an dem armen Pony rum zu ziehen
I have a miniature Shetland standing between 35-40 and he couldn't even jump 2/3 of that!! You should be proud of him!! He is so adorable
That little horse can really jump - great technique - like a tiny little showjumper!
Ears forward relaxed trot,, relaxed walk, going over and just over and looking forward to the next one without being hyper or rushing the handler.. That is the way to train a horse. Ya done good. I will only make one additional comment to this. This is a well-proportioned well-put-together miniature horse, and I did mean miniature *horse*. The little bitty ones that are knock kneed, swaybacked, short necked and heavy bellied would not be acceptable or even tried at jumping if they were a regular sized horse. Just my opinion but I'm certain that these little guys are well taken care of. Scritches to Larry.
He is so cute! Such a great jumper. Love the white patch on his side. :D
The editing of this video was great. If I had only seen Larry jump, I would never have realized how difficult those jumps were. He makes it look easy.
I think the little guy would've done the whole course at full speed! lol.
I love this video of Larry in jumper he really looks like he enjoys it. I have a miniature horse that I show he is a Florida state champion in halter and showmanship but I look forward to see more Larry babies in the future
dang! my barn is full :( looks like i might need to make room for a lil larry!
Ellie -- we have already sold all of Larry's foals for this year (and earlier years). His foals all seem to have the "jump gene" (they love to jump over things in the pasture and in their pens) and to be small and intelligent. We hope to have 2 or 3 new "Larry Babies" in 2014.
There is the answer to my question - Thank goodness Larry is a stud!!
That was AMAZING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love how his trot is equivalent to the guy's walking. so cute!!!
OOOOHHHHHHHHH This is just about the cutest thing ever!!! :'3
Larry was exellent!
He's adorable!!

That warmed my heart beyond measure. I love being beside horses as much as on them. I would love to do that! What a good little horse, what a beauty. Congratulations on your wins.
Wow, what an amazing little guy!! Congrats!!
You mean they can be kept in a house?
So cute! But I believe those ponies have souls of real showjumping horses =))
Just think he could walk under those things with room to spare.
he's the only one that carries such a heart for it. He looks like he's just lovin' it!
P♥ny
awww this is so cute!
cutest larr bear!!!
These little horses are in such good shape. And looks like great exercise for the handlers as well..
Damn Larry! What springs in those toes. What an amazing little jumper with lots of heart and go at it attitude.
i wish there was music but great job Larry and Daniel!
this is amazing- they are awesome miniatures!
very proud to be a part of the horsey world!
Ha ha ... This little guy "floats"... Over those jumps! what a cutie pie
Sweet
i LOVE how the smallest pony jumps the highest!!! he is so cute. serious skills!
I think its cute how to symbol at the beginning has the same white mark on the pony as the pony in the video
Can someone buy me a Larry for Christmas?!
To those of you who are posting "I want one" Thank You!. Contact us if you are serious. Larry has passed on his love of jumping to all of his babies so far. We have 3 mares in foal from him now that are due in April and May. Contact us to reserve one. We will also be selling frozen semen from Larry in the US and Europe for those that would like to breed a mare to Larry. daniel @ sunsetmtn . com
:) toastierox -- Larry will never be sold. He is the most loved of all our horses here at Sunset Mountain. However, we will be happy to sell you one of his babies. We have 3 mares in foal to him for next year. Yes, we do allow people to reserve a foal before it is born. Both of his foals from last year were born jumpers (see Larry Babies Can Jump - Expanded). We also do breedings and sell frozen and chilled semen. Contact us for more details. Larry is on FB at Wizard's Spell Trouble's Exemplary
HorseAnTayLover -- maybe you are asking which horse was Larry? Larry is a small black and white. Actually his color is not a true black, it is more of a very dark bay -- but he appears black in competition and his foals are often true black and whites. He only has one white spot -- a characteristic "wing" on his lower right side. That spot has also been described as a Christmas tree mark. And of course he has 4 white socks.
HorseAnTayLover -- I am not sure what you are asking. Was he the SMALLEST horse there? I don't know that he was the smallest, but certainly he is smaller than most jumpers. Larry stands 30 inches tall -- height in AMHA is measured at the withers in inches. Most of Larry's opponents are between 32 and 34 inches tall. One of Larry's biggest competitors was another 30 inch horse named "Special". Unfortunately Special was crippled this year and she has retired from jumping .
I would also say that there are plenty of miniature horse "pets" out there that still look like "fat little ponies". But what you are seeing in this video are some of AMHA's finest -- show horses performing at the World Championship. And I would be the first to say that Larry, beautiful though he is, is not the prettiest horse out there. Many of the others have a better conformation. But Larry has the build to do one thing well -- JUMP!
For those of you who are "Larry Fans" in Europe we have frozen semen available that we can ship to Europe. So far, Larry is passing his "Jump Gene" to all of his babies. And he is producing some awesome babies! We have 3 "Larry Babies" running around right now that are for sale. See our "2012 Babies" series on this channel. And YES, we can ship a baby horse to Europe.
Depends on the horse. Some have better blood lines, some have talents, some are are already trained. We have several for sale here at Sunset Mountain. Prices range from $500 to $2500. We have one "Larry baby" that is now 2 1/2 months old -- she is already jumping over things. We have two more mares in foal to Larry - babies due soon. daniel @ sunsetmtn . com
reininghorses57 -- Special was one of Larry's top competitors for many years. She was accidentally impregnated last year by a much larger horse. The owners did not even realize she was pregnant until part way through the 2011 show season. She foaled within 2 weeks of them realizing she was in foal. It was a very bad labor. The foal died -- and Special almost died.
Let me answer a few questions: From DudeCrushClaws -- why is this not a timed (speed) event? AMHR has jumper based on speed -- i.e. how fast can the exhibitor run the course, beside his/her horse. Since I am 55 with bad knees, the answer is -- not very. AMHA Jumper is based strictly on height -- i.e. how high can the horse jump. In Larry's case -- pretty high!
Special did major damage to her rear hip joint during the labor. But her owners and her trainer took very good care of her. She had surgery, and recovered. She is now in relatively good health and is very greatly loved. However she will never jump or breed again.
Switzerland is no problem. We can ship to Europe. Living in the city center at the top of an apartment block could be difficult. These horse can be house broken -- but some apartment managers might not approve. Besides, all of your neighbors would be jealous!
They deserve a bigger audience.
Horseysoar has asked how heavy Larry is. Our estimate is approximately 200 pounds. We have some adult minis that are smaller -- 150-180. And we have many that are bigger 250 - 400.
Because of the breed of miniature horse, how do you excercise and train a mini for this kind of work? do you you just go around with them in the arena, or do you lunge them? how do ensure they are moving correctly and building the right muscle?
Larry's great, nice job with him I wish I could get one of your foals, that would be amazing, but sadly, My parents (no matter how small the horse) say no. What is the minimum space needed for a miniature horse?
If this is a jumper course, shouldn't the course be completed in as fast a time possible? I'm curious, because our miniature horse shows run the jumper courses differently than what I am seeing here.
ok so i dont know the rules and stuff so if im wrong or its not allowed plz tell me nicely so i was saying that he should of patted his pony after the jump well its what i would have done
Well why they need a Rope isnt it possible to train them to free jump ? Like Dogs also do.
I really hope to purchase a Larry baby in several years when I am in the position to. For now I will just have to admire from afar! (Very excited to see this year's foals).
WOW,...Larry did Amazingly!!! & he was the smallest pony there jumping all the fences!!! He put all the other much larger pony's to shame!!!.....LOL!!!
i just got a two year old 33" mini, i started her on jumps and she LOVES IT! how long did u train larry before he was ready to compete?
thats to high for the little ponys sorry my english is not so gut because I´m from germany
That little guy's got guts! I wouldn't jump those thing and I'm human! You couldn't pay me to jump something taller than me. Those other horses had the right idea! I'm proud of the little guy and he's not even mine. Give him a pat and a little kiss for me, and a carrot.
This is at the will rogers memorial center in fort worth, isnt it? I show paint horses and thats where our "world show" goes on! :)
oh my goodness hes so good! and seriously the people keep yanking the chain in their faces and the other horses are like SCREW YOU!
Actually it is quite common for minature horses to live in peoples houses. They are even used as seeing eye animals sometimes!
I'm guessing one would be a tad out of my price-range, plus, I don't have a horse, let alone a miniature broodmare.
It's like watching a dog taught to walk on its hind legs. It can be done, but you have to ask yourself..."why?"
aren't they just cutie pies! im glad they are not riding their minis because minis are not ment to be ridden.
What a dainty little soul! So cute!
C'est des Fallabellas?
C'est incroyable comme sa saute haut!!
It's a Fallabellas?
It's incroyably Jump tall
excuse me for my english
How was the miniature pony called Special crippled?
I want one but a) I'm in Switzerland and b) I live in the city center at the top of an apartment block.
OMG, so cute.
At my stables we only have three big horses the rest are minitures. All minitures are adorable!! :)
@SunsetMtnMiniatures think u should try Horse Agility:) i think that's a nice fun for horse and U:)
I love ponies, they've got some character! ;) If they don't want to jump something they don't do it!
My 20" can jump 34".. but then again shes a border collie.
One of the reasons I want a mini. :)
that woman must have a lot in her to run the course 8 months pregnant :O Kudos to her hehe
such a cutie pie, is he your horse? or shoul di say pony lol he is so cute and so small
I find it kind of humorous that in this case, show jumping is done in western attire.
