    Thanks for this. Just picked up one of these on clearance, it's a nice machine. Strange that they'd put a PCIe 3 drive on a board that can handle PCIe 4 (especially when they advertise the latter). Just an excuse to put a better (and bigger) drive in, though!
    I'm no stranger to the technical aspects of these installs, but it's always nice to see someone else go through it first just so I know to look out for any proprietary landmines, e.g. finicky screws/tabs/attachments, warranty stickers, etc. Thanks again!

      II just checked the exact specs. Indeed, the card allows PCIe4.0. But there was no option for SSD in PCIe4.0 but only in 3x4. That's why I thought it only accepted 3.0...
      I also notice that for the price I paid for 1TB PCIe3.0 that I could have had a cheaper 2TB PCIe4.0 from Samsung...
      My speed tests are just a little below 3300 mb/s in reading and 3000 in writing...

      I just purchased the Samsung 980 Pro SSD 2TB for my X1 through Amazon. A big special. If I understand correctly, the drivers and Windows will install automatically.
      In order to reuse the disk from the X1 in my old laptop with 2.5'' SATA, do you have an adapter to recommend for my 1TB NVME disk?
      And does it absolutely need a USB key for booting or it could boot to an external hard drive with several files including Windows that I could choose to install?

    • @hoyty76
      @hoyty76  2 года назад

      @@ThinKkBIGG Yes I verified the speed. There are no additional drivers to install to make the new drive work. You can’t install an NVMe drive in a laptop with SATA connection they are not compatible. Both power and communication protocols are different. I will then have to recover this one in a USB adapter then... If there is one in a Thunderbolt 4 box?
      On your USB key did you make an ISO of Win10 or an EXE will also be executed? It is absolutely necessary that there is only Win10 above without anything else? It takes a bootable USB key and not a file that I could choose from several (if I can choose it before the operating system is installed? From memory, it was impossible before.)?
