    The reason it's difficult to get medication is because there often isn't any medication that can be given unfortunately :( You probably picked up a virus at the wedding...all you can do is wait for it to pass. Antibiotics will only help if you have a bacterial infection and docs are trained to not give antibiotics "just in case" for more minor illnesses because they did that for decades and it basically created an army of antibiotic resistant super bugs. Hope you're both better soon!

    • @melcerra2375
      @melcerra2375 2 года назад +18

      Yes. Most of the time, it’s viral. Viruses have to run their course. I’m a provider at an urgent care. Antibiotics are wayyyy overprescribed and we have so much more resistance to antibiotics because of it. People get frustrated with me all of the time because there isn’t an instant fix. I try to give them over the counter and home supportive care to help, but half the time they just tune me out. Also, if you are congested, coughing with a sore throat, it’s not strep unless you have a cold and strep at the same time.

    • @farah_lynn
      @farah_lynn 2 года назад +6

      I am learning about this in my Microbiology class, hopefully they stop prescribing antibiotics so often otherwise they will become ineffective

    • @stephie640
      @stephie640 2 года назад +5

      Yep.. Very true..I get patients that get so frustrated wanting antibiotics and is saying no.. Unless the infection is bacterial, which is not often. Time, rest and water are our friends with those darned viral infections. But..a good bedside manner is helpful too.

      what about tamaflu? i forget if there’s a flu test but wouldn’t that help? thanks for your input

    • @jilliannpiskorski7211
      @jilliannpiskorski7211 2 года назад +3

      @@SydneyDragon Tamiflu is an option but it's not going to make a massive difference. You have to take it within 48 hours of symptom onset for it to have any effect at all and even then it won't make you better, it'll just shorten the duration of your symptoms by about one day. It's mostly recommended for people at risk of severe illness. For a young and healthy person, the side effects (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea) can end up being worse than the extra one day of symptoms.

    Zac, you have to be your own advocate when it comes to medical treatment. Having a family doctor over just a random doctor who doesn’t see you for years is a good way to get slipped between the cracks. I’d highly suggest a family doctor!

  • @gdawgpaveng15
    @gdawgpaveng15 2 года назад +8

    You should see a primary care doctor once a year! That’s what primary care doctors are there for. They help with preventive care and they get to know you and your medical history! Get better both of you! It’s better to stay home than spread any kind of virus you might have picked up. Take care of yourself and your supervisors will understand! Love you Clancy!

    I love how real you are! I also appreciate you being a great example of how to be responsible with all illness. My niece was diagnosed with strep yesterday, and I'm skipping a friend's little boy's second birthday party. Poor guy was born during the pandemic and his first birthday was tiny. You remind me so much of my parents and several friends and they are adrenaline junkies. My dad was a police officer (although he was known for his de-escalation skills) and mom is retired from CPS. You have a positive job that seems to give you "fun" adrenaline. I feel the same way about insurance and doctors. I go for my check-up and then for my ADHD and anti-anxiety meds. But yearly check-ups are SO important you entire life in my opinion. Having a PCP that knows you is so helpful. All my opinions of course!

    Classic migraine symptoms. Exactly what happened to me when I got migraines. The lights are called an aura. I take ibuprofen and a caffeinated beverage (coke for me), turn off all the lights go to a dark room and go to sleep immediately. That seems to help a lot. Actually had the aura thing happen to me the other day and I did exactly what I told you and woke up the next morning and never had a headache.

    I haven’t heard someone be able to describe a migraine like you did and you did such a good job of it. I’ve suffered from them for close to 20 years and I sometimes just can’t put into words what it is like. Then there is the migraine hangover you get from after the pain goes away. I hear you Zac on not getting sick much therefore not needing a doctor, but I have a relationship with my PCP so if/when I do get sick my doctor knows me and my body and knows what to give to help me. And having someone I can trust with my healthcare is important! Even just seeing a PCP once a year for a checkup will make the next visit when you're sick a bit easier hopefully!

  • @4328898
    @4328898 2 года назад +8

    Ahhh this is an ocular migraine (sometimes also referred to as a retinal migraine). As others have said, it sounds like the aftermath is the migraine hangover! I get ocular migraines once every 1-2 years and the trick is to take strong painkillers immediately as soon as your vision starts to get blurry, then lie in a dark room for the painkillers to kick in (easier said than done if you're out and about of course!).
    I'm not sure if you take birth control pills but if you do, inform your doc, as if you have migraines (even if only one) it can affect which birth control pills are safe for you to be on.
    Hope you both get better soon!

    Hi Clancy! First off, LOVE your videos girl! I've suffered from migraines for years and I am not a doctor, but from everything you said, I think what you had was aura. I get them whenever I get migraines. They're sort of my trigger letting me know I'm getting one, and then the longer time goes on, the more it takes over your vision. Some people can also have certain trigger foods that cause migraines to come on, so if you've changed anything in your diet, that could also have brought it along with stress, etc. There's no for sure known trigger of migraines which sucks, but hopefully you don't get anymore, and always stay super hydrated too! Hope you are feeling better!

    Thank you for the concealer recommendation! Concerning migraines I hope it was an isolated incident and you won't ever have it again! For people who have them often, there are some tricks you can try on top of medication. For me it's lying in the dark, a Diet Coke, a piece of bread or something very plain and dry to eat, and what works miracles is Tiger Balm on my forehead and around my eyes where the pain is! And sometimes a cold cloth on top. You had the right idea with the broccoli!

    I feel sorry for the people who have used filters. Especially if they try to make themselves to look like someone they're not. That can't be healthy.
    Sorry to hear that Zak is feeling sick. I can relate to his doctor rant I don't get help from doctors either. I've had eye pain since 2013 off and on over the years that begins a few days before it rains and snows for years and it sometimes goes away when I eat certain foods. The only thing I can say it resembles is dystonia, but that is not confirmed. If anyone in public were to see my eye closed up and tearing they would probably say covid, but I'd say no, pre-existing condition.

    Please take care of yourself Clancy and get as much rest as possible.. don't feel guilty for resting, or laying on the couch, you need rest and time to yourself. I've had a couple migraines before, (not many) and I think they were triggered by stress, exhaustion, and sleep deprivation. Also, I always take Saturday or Sunday as a "day of rest" where I refuse to feel guilty for laying down on the couch. You just have to schedule a day a week, and if you can't do that, schedule yourself a "staycation from work" where someone else takes over for you. Not trying to be bossy, just trying to be a friend. With love, be blessed, I love your vlogs. Healing to you and Zac. xoxo

    Just so you know for the future, you can take 4 ibuprofen when you’re in a lot of pain like that. The max dose is 800mg. I don’t do it frequently, but I do when I’m really not feeling well. Hope you’re feeling better now!

    My son who is in college, came down with the same thing Zac had. He tested for covid and it came
    Back negative, tested for the Flu also negative, so there is something going around. Execedrin migraine , I have taken that before and it has knocked out the migraine out. I sure hope y’all get better and I get that you don’t want to report sick to work, but it’s better to be safe and keep others safe. In these times employers understand. Hope you and Zac get better soon.

    I experienced migraines almost daily during my late 20ś and all of my 30ś. Thank goodness they started slowing down and I only get one every now and then. My doctor things my hormone levels were migraine triggers. They are excrutiating. I had one for two whole days that sent me to the ER. Thankfully they were very understanding and took care of me well...and got rid of the migrane.

    Clancy, I’m sorry about your migraine. I used to get them often (2-3x a month) and now I seldom get them based off what I do differently and signs. For me, taking magnesium glycate as my doctor recommended has been heaven sent. I also had to cut certain foods out (avocados is one. 😩) that I noticed triggered them for me. Certain signs (for you the lights!) or for me a huge one is yawning. It’s your body’s way of warning you. I can then start doing the things I know will help, aspirin, hydration and sleep. And as random as it sounds, others including myself (who doesn’t even like coke) will get a LARGE MCDONALDS (it has to be both) and start drinking it. No idea why. No other caffeine helps, but their coke does. I’m just thankful for it when I notice the signs coming on.
    If you ever get another, and it’s unbearable consider the ER for two reasons. 1. To make sure you don’t have a brain anyrusum. 2. For a migraine cocktail. I’ve never had to go in yet, but I hear it truly is helpful. The last major migraine I had my arms and legs were numb and I had the usual symptoms as well. I would have went in but I had my kids, couldn’t drive of course, my husband was working so I just had to wait it out.
    It’s also normal to feel sick, head pain, sensitivity to light, tired (mentally as well) after a migraine for days after. I’ve never felt fully normal the next day. It takes me around 2 days to fully feel myself again.

    First, I really hope that you both are feeling so much better.
    Clancy, I'm so sorry you had such a horrible headache. You could have twisted your neck which ould have brought on your horrible headache. If it ever happens again please go to the ER. It could have been something very serious. I have suffered from Migraines my whole life and some of your symptoms were not consistent with Migraines. If you ever have a bad headache like that again put an ice pack at the nape of your head/neck. Your blood vessels were constricting and the cold helps them relax. An ice patch or a cool cloth on your eyes can help as well.
    Now to Zac. I know you have a vehicle and I am sure you have insurance to protect you in case you have an accident whether it's you fault or someone else's. It is called insurance to insure that if there is any damage to you, your passengers and your car, your insurance will take care of everything. Without it the cost could be catastrophic! It's the same concept for health Insurance. It is there "just in case" to insure that if you were to become sick, break a leg playing basketball or suffer a catastrophic injury like my husband did when he lost his leg 20 years ago in an unexpected, horrible accident caused by some else, you will be protected from financial ruin! The bills for my husband were almost a million dollars and it would have wiped us out and ruined our future had we not had medical insurance. It is there just in case and if you never have to use it I consider that money well spent. Life is so unpredictable. It is so much better to be prepared. And you do need a primary doctor as well. You should have a physical at least once a year. You should have your moles checked and as you are in your 30's a PSA Test for prostrate cancer should be in your near future. Be proactive with your health. Just because you go to the gym all the time and eat health does not mean you are invincible. There are no guarantees with our health and it is up to us to take care of ourselves to hopefully prolong our lives. You owe that to yourself, your future wife and children that you will have a long, healthy life. Best wishes to you both for long, healthy lives!👍🙏👍🤞👍

    Hi Clancy! I'm not a doctor but I've experienced migraines since I was 9 years old (I'm now 21) and what you described totally sounds like a migraine crisis! Also the part where you couldn't see anything in any screen would be what's called 'aura' and is normally a sign that a migraine may be about to strike (though not everyone who has migraines experiences it and people describe it in many different ways). And what you said about feeling bad about skipping work is really relatable for anyone with migraines, a lot of people really don't understand and think it's just a headache, and you are not exactly ill and with a fever, but at the same time you can barely open your eyes and be in a bright envirnoment, let alone go to work.
    On another note, just wanted to add that I'm portuguese and I've just finished my degree in Journalism here in Portugal a few months ago, and so watching your channel is really interesting to me! Keep up with the good work 😊

    I was at work when I got my first aura. I went blind in my left eye for about 30 minutes. When my vision came back I had a throbbing pain from my right eye through my head to my neck on the left side. It was really scary. Ive had them since, only a hand full of times, but for me, a double dose of Aleve, which is around 500mg helps me in my random migraines.
    You might also have had whiplash from falling. Jarring your brain inside your skull. Who knows. Hope you feel better.

    The best rule of thumb that I learned from working with surgeons is that if it’s a respiratory infection to wait exactly 9 days before you go in for antibiotics. Antibiotics are over prescribed and that can be dangerous for when you really need them. The only time to go in before the 9 days is if your fever is above 101, your blood pressure is abnormal, or you are having difficulty breathing. I’ve saved SO much money since I learned that. It is true that I’ve gone on the 8th day and by the 9th I’m way better so the copay was a waste. I hope you guys are doing better. Of course this 9 day thing is relative now that we’ve got COVID killing so many. For that just know that if you can’t taste things or smell them, then consider the possibility of COVID. Sending y’all healing vibes. ♥️

    Please go to the doctor ASAP. At the very least, give them a call and explain your symptoms. Severe head pain (that you've not experienced before) should be evaluated. There are serious conditions that mimic a migraine. I don't mean to scare you! I hope you're feeling better! xo
