  • Government officials issued a geomagnetic storm watch for the first time since 2005, as five earth-directed coronal mass ejections were detected on the sun. The aurora borealis could be visible cloud cover permitting. What it could mean for us this weekend.

If we had an event like in the 1800s we would be without power for months. No joke.

Actually, in the 1800’s there was an event like this that was much, MUCH stronger, and at the time, they had very little electricity so only a few lightbulbs lit up by themselves and telegraph stations blew out. If there were a similar event today, our power grids would be completely wiped out. If you want a fun end-of-the-world scenario to contemplate, look up “Carrington Event” 😊.

I was so excited but my boyfriend didn’t feel like going for a drive with me to see them, and I had to coax him to get up and look outside 😅 He’s a sweet guy so it’s all good but damn this was a special event! Like living in a nebula in space

Yesterday.mornimg he San Luis Valley lost power yesterday due to a transmission line failure on top of Poncha Pass that feeds the valley. A valley wide failure has not happened before according to the Emergency Management office. Could a CME have caused this?

It was beautiful, even though it wasn’t super vivid! I could still see them and they were moving 🥹 Then when I looked through my phone camera I was blown away by what it picked up
