Hi Dawn, thanks for your shout out for women and young people enjoying the hobby. So sad the scammers are infiltrating. Loving the channel and you behind the camera colleague, can't help thinking of Baldrick... 😆
Hi Dawn, I hope you will head over to Stand L14 - featuring Dave Hawkins Great Bardfield layout - at Ally Pally tomorrow (Saturday) and say “hi”. Best regards, Paul Godwin.
Another well presented informative update. I've noticed a couple of scammers on other RUclips videos recently. I ignore them but will now raise it as an issue with you Tube. Well done Dawn and MrG keeping our hobby front and centre
The Box File layout was quite interesting, sadly I won't be attending Ally Pally myself but recently went to a model railway show in Basingstoke which I heard good things about the event before I went and it honestly did not disappoint. I do recommend the Basingstoke Model Railway Exhibition. That video about the women in the Railway Hobby was also brilliant to watch but shame about the scam-bots did ruin the comments. Great Update Dawn
Not your mobile number!!! Damn. 😪 So Close. Keep up the good work Dawn. Maybe your own TV program next. Would the BBC employ a grumpy camera man? Loving your videos, both of you. Kind regards
Again another `cracking video`, thank you. I do not venture far as I enjoy `my` workshop, hobby office, and home and have attended and seen enough model exhibitions to suit my needs. I only attend one now that being my local Railway Society Event in November. Just spotted this upon RUclips and one may be interested: 【必見!匠の技・心】鉄道模型製作 横浜マイスター 稲見行雄さん|Model train maker - RUclips Well, "keep em coming duc" (its a local greeting "Ay up me Duc",) them videos, that is. At present making up six 4mm scale wheelbarrows along with a Scammell mechanical horse in 1:43rd (`0` gauge,) it being white metal kit. Take care.
I used to go to Ally Pally for the Railway, Model Engineers, and Dolls Houses. But I don't have a car any more, so no more visits. I can't use public transport, as my particular mobility scooter doesn't fit inside the boxes that abled-bodied people have decided is sufficient for us cripples.
Being a women, can you suggest ways to get my wife involved in my hobby. so far I have asked her to assist me in cataloging those items that I have purchased, either for repair and resale, those that Choses to keep as collector items. Also working with me on my layout. She feels that I spend way to much time on it. And yes maybe I do, but it is usually when she is doing the things that brings her pleasure. Her father when he was alive was an office worker for Southern Railway in Washington DC. So I just though she having railroading in her blood would be interested. Please can anyone help?
I think you answered your own question Joseph - when you said you work on your model railway when she is doing things that bring her pleasure. What is it she loves doing? I suggest you ask her if you haven't already. I think we always make mistakes when we assume we know what our nearest and dearest want. While I would love nothing more than to see more women involved in the hobby, if it doesn't float their boat, then that's okay, just as model railways aren't for all men. Is there an element of doing what she loves that she could do on your layout rather than doing the cataloguing (which might not be that exciting for her).Does she enjoy painting or crafting/building? Or would she enjoy doing the electronics/wiring? My question to you would be: why would you like her to be involved with your hobby? Is it because you'd love to do something together and you want her to enjoy it as much as you, or do you want her to help you with some of the tasks you'd otherwise have to do on your own? I think the way we ask is also important. Hope that helps.
Hi Dawn. Lovely to see you and grumpy cameraman yesterday at Ally Pally. Always nice to have a chat with you. Hope you enjoyed your day. X
Thanks Steve - lovely to see you too!
