The statistic across all government operated prisons in the US, says that about 6% of inmates do not claim affiliation to any religion. The number of non christian inmates is around 9% of the population, which leaves 85% of prisoners being christian.
Of course there are some potential perks in prison for those who claim to be christian, parole boards are heavily influenced by christians, so a mass murderer who admitted killing 1,000 people but is now saved, is more likely to get paroled than a unrepentant satanist with 3 unpaid parking fines, so it's difficult to be exact. Then of course there's the indoctrination factor, if you're used to being told you're a christian, most never consider they're anything else, so when asked you answer "I'm a christian".
There might be some sarcasm in this reply.

The imposition on our ways of thinking in the way that this verse about adultery and lust attempts to do is actually the direct cause of many of the problems in Christian organisations and churches, and in direct opposition to a solution. People who are forced to suppress their feelings in this way do so in a way that then manifests itself into guilt. There’s then guilt for absolutely no reason, and this can lead to all sorts of unintended consequences. One of these is that the individual has no way of relieving natural urges, and doesn’t understand how to deal with them. They may then go onto become sexual predators, pedophiles, rapists, child abusers, and even mass murderers (sexual repression in mass murderers is an acknowledged phenomenon). Just look what happens in the Catholic Church because priests are required to remain celibate.

That oh-oh moment when an atheist immediately recalls the verse you referred to.
I like all episodes with Dr. Ray. Especially that episode where a guy opened up about religious shame repressing his sexual urges, which led to a self-feeding cycle of unhealthy amounts of masturbation and then shame. And Dr. Ray replied that it’s completely natural and happens often. That was not the answer I was expecting, I thought he would chastise religion for that. Just shows that he is a good psychologist. He immediately went to helping out mode.

Yea if it wasn't FOR LUST there'd be no human population. So how can this god decide that lust is a sin when you kind of need lust for humans to exist? And I'm pretty sure the Christian god wants humans to exist. I mean am I tripping here? Because if I am, can someone please explain how lust being a sin makes sense if it does. (That's not sarcasm either)

I know this video is *many years* old, but I still want to point out that Japan, Sweden and Denmark all have a rape problem. There's not a country on earth that doesn't. Some countries may have astonishingly low rates of rape, simply because non-consensual sex within marriage doesn't count as rape there, or because rape isn't even a legal term. In Sweden, there was a spike of reported rapes once literally every single instance of non-consensual sexual act was considered as rape.
I think it's important to be aware of that.

One could surmise this entire terrifying call as "Christian attempting to fathom two consenting adults willingly having sex." Not a concept many of them are familiar with.
I've never * * * * * anyone. I wouldn't want to! Whenever I hear people's experiences with SA it makes me furious, because I have an ability to empathise with other people, it hurts to hear about other people's trauma and my moral framework is largely built around minimising people's trauma. I don't need to call my lack of a desire to * * * * someone as a "limit" - I don't want to do it _because_ I believe it's wrong to do that to anyone. I don't need the fear of either legal repercussions or a make-believe deity to enforce my values in regard to SA.

Well, the context is dealing with divorce. Therefore, one should stick to the context. One marries because of lust, except one is born a eunuch. Lust itself in not bad, in fact, it could be the strong driving force of motivation to achieve one’s goal, unless one goes beyond the limits of the law. It should be noted the Lord Jesus is introducing a new law or a New Testament. It is the problem of one’s thoughts where lust is conceived projected to physical acts. One should deal with the thoughts the root-cause of the problem, this is the reason why the thing called sin is a great deceiver, and no one is immune whether a theist or an atheist.

The only situation where lust might be considered wrong is if two people (a married couple for example) have an agreement/understanding that they will not actively dwell on someone else's (other than their mate/spouse) sexual attributes/attractiveness and become overly enamored with someone else sexually. That could be tantamount to breaking an agreement. But if there is no such agreement or if it's just a single person thinking things and not acting on them, then how/why should it be wrong? One could think Jesus was a nut and overly occupied with other's sexual desires. Perhaps he was jealous because he wasn't getting any.
Actually those and other words are likely not 'of' for 'from' a specific person named Jesus but were likely scripted to convince others of one's POV and acting as if Jesus said it.

@@revwillyg6450 I've been to the American South and there are a lot of churches. We have just as many, though they tend not to look like a white painted garage with a mail order spire stuck on top. Congregations are now so low in the UK that many, many churches are used as bars or other places of entertainment. They are always in easily accessible places, which works, and they are usually very attractive - there's a stunning and unusual Baroque church in my home town that's used as a bar/nightclub along with several more typical gothic churches (real gothic and Victorian gothic). A local beer festival is held in a 1000 year old Saxon church. Churches are, however, very expensive to heat and maintain. Three hundred year old buildings must be preserved by law which means highly paid heritage stonemasons and roofers.

7:25 "When did you choose to be a Christian?"
I remember having a very similar conversation with my mother, the self-appointed religious arbiter of the household. There was some kind of religious gathering at our house, and some younger folks were in attendance. I don't think she knew them or their parents personally. I asked her if anyone asked them if they wanted to be a Hindu. But she just blindly and without foundation, asserted that they were "ordained" or something. Couldn't answer the simplest question without resorting to BS.
